Speaking of wine... when I was first in Japan, my Japanese dreadful, of course.  But, I tried.

 

Drinking one night and we ordered a cab. Every wine they had was chilled, but we wanted some room temperature wine.

 

I did my best to piece together a sentence using the literal words for room (heya) and temperature (ondo). Pieced together would be temperature of the room wine.

 

Hey, I was the only one who could even try that!

 

The waiter trundles off and a few minutes later, the manager returns and is rubbing his hands together, bowing deeply and apologizing profusely. I thought he might commit ritual suicide at the table. They never want to disappoint a customer.

 

They couldn't determine what the temperature of the room was, so they couldn't match it precisely.

 

Only later did I learn that the special word is jouonde.

Boujelais is a real nice versatile red. Low alcohol is a plus, just stay clear of the Jadot. Duboeuf is not super, but if it’s what is available give that a shot as it’s pretty widespread. Should be less than $15. Good with most pork preparations too. 
 

If you are cooking the pork or yard bird with lemon, you’ll want a white with more acidity….happy to give a suggestion there too. 

I grill most everything and it's pretty plain. I brush on some good olive oil from Costco and some seasoning.

Fella we are absolutely going to be in the same cart.  I see us laughing it up so hard we can't even make a tap-in for a 24 on a par 3.  Great hearing from you.  Blast away with swing talk whenever you like - remembering I sure don't have all the answer.

BSC - We go back!  Way - way - back!  You and I have roamed through a ton of threads together.  I can see how the grill is a good landing spot for us both.

Do not know if we will play Wednesday yet. We are supposed to have a fun little family event to remember our Pro/Co Owner who passed last year on the 20th. It is supposed to be a 6 person scramble with all players picked out of the hat. Additionally, every team will have a staff member on the team. It will also be all Par3 holes. The regular Par3 holes will be at the Red Tees (Ladies) yardage and the rest of the holes will be 110 yards or shorter. I am planning on playing my vintage set of Mac 4000s mixed with a couple of hickory clubs thrown in for good measure. We got close to 11 inches of rain in a 24 hour period and I do not know if the course will be playable even at the reduced yardage. On top of that we have a cold front in now and the temps on Tuesday night are going down to 27* which is cold for here. I think the high temp for Wednesday will only be 48*. We do have a Shootout scheduled for Saturday and do not know if we get in in either. So I do not know if I will get another round in for 2023 either

It's supposed to be 52° here on Christmas day. Been a while since we've been that warm in late December

Last Christmas Eve here it was one of the coldest on record ever for this area. It was like 22*. Christmas Day it never got above like 25*. They are saying this year it will be around 60* Christmas Day

In that case 100% try a Boujelais, I think you might like that one. If the seasoning is bold and lots of big flavor, try a Zinfandel — a “heavier” red and is typically really good with various things from the grill. I love it with kebabs and things like that since I don’t really eat burgers these days. You’ll probably need to hit a wine shop, wouldn’t recommend what you’re likely to find at a supermarket.

Costco is about as close to a wine shop as we have around here.😅

There is a similar bunch of people in the Cigar world, "notes of expresso and black cherry" oh horsepoop, it taste like a cigar. I have been lucky to sit and have a cigar with some of the biggest in the Business in the D.R. (not a brag, I was just there with a friend that knows them) and we were talking about that topic, Carlito Fuentes said to me "do you like it? If so all that notes stuff is people trying to show how smart they are" 

A cigar is either good to you or not, that is all that matters.

Somehow I ended up with a subscription to Cigar Affected 😁 magazine, I think it was some kind of free add on from a Rock Bottom Golf order. 
 

I don’t like cigars period, but I did scan the first issue that showed up out of curiosity. Subsequent issues went straight into the recycle bin.

My first real drunk was Boones Farm Strawberry Hill. My Mom bought it for me for some special occasion. 
 

This was questionable parenting, as I’ve told my kids. 🤓

 

She made me stay at home if I drank it. No going out. No driving (I guess that was her ploy, but believe me we made up for that later. For a smart group of kids we were beyond stupid. Esp if girls were around). 
 

Anyway, I drank the entire bottle in my room while playing Iron Butterfly. In a Gadda DaVida, for you less fortunate uneducated young guys snd gals here.   Mom said, you weren’t supposed to drink the whole bottle!  I said, what else was I supposed to do with it, it tasted so bad I might throw up if I had to face it again. 
 

Later that spring I met my eventual high school girlfriend for a date. She wanted Boones Farm Strawberry Hill..

You should enter the thread elsewhere where everyone “sets” their bag in January and see who lasts longest. You have to declare every club. Believe me, this is stressful. In true WRX fashion I’ve never made it past March. Even in my shoulder surgery year I actually swapped putters, the only club I was allowed to use!

I've glanced in on that thread.  WRX'ville is littered with bag is set announcements.  Only to note a short time latter, they're no longer found in a WITB sig.  Homey don't play that game.  No proclamations, no explanations.  

 

I've off the hamster wheel anyhow.  For now.  Not counting rotational implements already in inventory.

I like what I like and long ago decided not to care what anyone else thinks about it. I rarely drink white wine, regardless of what I’m eating. I just enjoy red more. I’ve found a Tempranillo that goes with anything. Of course, if someone else is buying, that’s the wine I enjoy the most!

Amen Rad! August golf in Texas is absolutely brutal. This is the best time of the year for golf in DFW. Playing tomorrow where we’ll start out in the 40s, but will be in the 60s by the time we finish. Hoping to get in a couple of rounds next week. We’re not going anywhere for Christmas and tee times should be easy. Highs in the 50s.
