It is supposed to be warm here all week. I signed up for Wednesday and Thursday. Yesterday morning we had frost and the small money game did not tee off until 10AM. They originally had only 9 players but it dwindled down to only 6. Saturday is supposed to be in the 70s. I am not really keen on the Shootouts anymore besides I have a funeral to run at church. Will more than likely slip off to the Par3 after the service since it is about 1 mile from the church

Allstate always sending us letters wanting our homeowners policy business.  A friend of

mine has them and they jacked his premium way up at his last renewal. They actually

said they were jacking up his rate in Alabama due to all the claims in Florida. Uh no,

that's BS. ❌

I literally change the channel when Mayhem comes on. Same company that ditched many friends after our hailstorm. 
 

Been with USAA for over 30 years. Not the cheapest but have stood by me when I needed them. That’s why I have insurance.

From what I observed in my towing days USAA was always the best company to deal with. On our end they were great to work with and from what I observed they were great to their customers. All State was the worse in fact I barred one of their adjusters from our yard. He was a first class Richard Noggin

Well wholesale life changes for me. A few weeks back I received a notice by certified mail that the state was taking my section of my storage building for a road project. I have 190 days to move. With me still holding a wholesale business license they will have to pay me to vacate. I sold my huge tool box and Diesel tools yesterday to a friend's grand son who is getting started in the business. I had forgotten what all was in that box since I had not unlocked it in more than 10 years. I did not really give it away but I knew no way I could get what I had in it. For the clubs I have several options. I have talked to a couple of guys in the classic club business and they are talking about a blanket buy out. If not I have talked to an auctioneer. The attorney for the state called me yesterday and told me their offer which I can live with. It was lower than I anticipated but I had not done a bunch of business since I have been hurt. But still I feel it is a good settlement. One thing about it after the stuff is gone I can simplify my life even further. I no longer will have to write that $110 rent check every month. I had a dose of reality I am no longer able to turn wrenches on the big stuff. I have enough tools at the shop at the house to do what little I need to do. Besides my gamers I am only keeping 2 sets of classic irons my beloved FC-4000s and the Mac Hogans and maybe 10 putters. Yep I am out of the club ho business

I haven’t recovered from “It’s a small world” syndrome after taking my kids to Disneyland.  Starts when the song comes on the TV or radio. First a facial twitch, then some uncontrolled drooling, ….   By then my wife thankfully has the medication ready.

Congrats Stu. Giving that young man a solid start with the tools, and getting rid of some stuff you haven't laid eyes on in a long time. A lot less to fret over.

I'm not the one facing this.  My empathy is all well and good but you're the man in the middle of it.   have to at least say the way you're going about this is positive.  You see the situation, you have a plan, and you're locked and loaded to play it out with some upside in your life.  It would be a tougher reply had you approached it all from the negative.  You don't need me to be proud of you, but I don't mind saying your way of planning and moving forward on this one is inspiring.  Proud of you.  The same situation would not be managed nearly as well by so many others.

My niece met her husband when they both were crewing the jungle boats at Disney in Orlando after graduating from college. 20 years later and he still works for a sports/marketing/promotion division of Disney in NYC. Such words are dangerous territory when it comes to golf swings.  Beyond our individual mental/physical/emotional wiring, there exists the myriad of if-thens inside the swing motion.  Those are hard enough to identify, let alone the combinations of them which can be compounding in both good and bad ways.  

 

Example:  Sometimes a golfer finds he hits ball-first by applying some form or another of what is famously called the "late hit".  It's not always the case, but sometimes that same golfer cranks up his upper body turning motion through the ball to avoid issues such as getting "stuck" or perhaps as a mechanism to overcome problematic tendencies from the waist-down.  His motion can look to the world as though it's all predicated on a tempo that's just too hot.  Not for him!  

 

If we ask 10 golfers to list the fundamentals of the swing, we'd get 10 answers.  

 

About the only thing goofier than the game of golf is us golfers.  We observe how others do it, are willing to touch the notions as to how to do it.  Then very quickly on that path a gag reflex kicks in and that's suddenly the end of that. 

 

On the other hand, there aren't too many endeavors where you can approach it all while singing "I Did It My Way".  Goofy or beautiful?  Maybe both.

And the little house I mentioned is really not spectacular in the traditional sense. Lots of places with far more WOW factor. It’s all about the location, architect and history. Which I find more interesting than a modern ‘white box’ mansion.

Funny thing is McConaughey fit my mental portrait of the Haller. The actor from the Bosch series - not so much, so that kinda wrecked it for me. I enjoyed the first season of Bosch but that was about it.

I will say Bosch was much better early. The newer series where he is a PI definitely feels to me like a watered down version. Also great early was Goliath.

Fun with Insurance and Pharmacies

 

You pay an insurance company premiums.

You pay to get a prescription.

Then you go to the pharmacy.

 

What happens when you go to the pharmacy?

They ask if you have insurance. You say yes.

Everyone says yes, because you think it must be expensive, and you're only paying a co-pay, so you give them your insurance information.

Or, your insurance information already in their system. You can't escape from this from any chain.

 

Once you say you have insurance, the pharmacy is forbidden from telling you the cash price to maintain their contract with the insurance company.

 

Let's use Metformin, a common drug for diabetes, as the example.

 

Metformin costs the pharmacy about $2.

If you had no insurance, the cash price would be $4.

You pay $4 and the pharmacy makes $2.

 

The pharmacy puts in your insurance info, and now you have a co-pay of $10.

You think it's a good deal. Only $10.

 

From that co-pay, $7 goes back to the insurance company and the pharmacy gets only $3.

The pharmacy now makes only $1, and you just paid $6 more than if you had no insurance. But, you have paid for it.

 

Some people like to say the system is broken. It isn't. It's working exactly as designed.

This practice, commonly referred to as the pharmacist gag order, was abolished in 2018. While a pharmacist isn’t obligated to tell you about a lower price, they are not prohibited from doing so any longer. And it was the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) that was the culprit in the scenario. They’re also the ones that pocket the difference you described.

 

Having said that, I’m 100% in alignment with you regarding the evils of the healthcare insurance industry. The amount of money spent on bureaucracy/non-patient care in our healthcare system would easily fund the move to a single payer system, but the industry lobbyists won’t allow it to happen.

Yes, but relatively recently. Express Scripts and Caremark are (were) the largest PBMs. They’re now owned by Cigna and Aetna respectively. CVS and Caremark had merged and then Aetna acquired CVS.
