The greens at the course we played today were awful. About 50% dormant bermuda 

interspersed with 50% green and growing poa annua. What a mess.  It was like putting

That’s too bad. Ruins the day.

 

Played a USAF course today. Greens, tees, fairways were impeccable.

 

Not a single pitch mark, pure as could be. Can’t remember seeing any divots not filled in or traps not raked. Carts were sparkling, GPS was accurate, ice chests (was 80° today), filled divot bottles, drinking water throughout the course.

 

Better than most private courses here and about $150-$300 less than public courses now. Different caliber of people. It’s great vets can get on. Most courses are active duty or retired only.

We have a bunch of them down here if not for the computer cash register telling them how much change to give back they could not do it. If a business does not take good old cash then I will not be a customer. I am not Perry Mason but I think there is a provision in Federal Law saying businesses have to take good old American currency if presented. 

I was over at Mickey Dees the other day and got 2 Sausage biscuits and a senior coffee. It was like $4.25. I gave the girl a $5 bill and a quarter. She handed me the quarter back. I asked WTH? She said I gave her too much money that she owed me huum 75 cents. I do not deal with idiots very well. I told her give me my $5 bill back which she did and I drove off leaving her holding the bag. I went over to Bojangles about a mile away and got a better Sausage biscuit and coffee for .25 more. Had no problem at all. I gave the lady there the $5 and 2 quarters. She handed me back a $1 bill and said thank you.

I always keep cash in my wallet, for places I don’t think I “trust” or sometimes I like to tip at restaurants in cash. 
 

I haven’t taken the plunge with any phone pay apps yet, a card is convenient enough. 
 

But “automated checkout” is coming, it’s here already in some places, I think Amazon had a store in NYC and I know some folks at a big startup with crazy tech….

 

the store has advanced cameras that can see all the stuff you take, then you just walk out the door with your stuff and it charges you.

Most companies that tried to not accept cash relented from customer complaints.

 

Businesses don't like cash, and neither does the government.

1. Customers spend more with a card, even factoring in the transaction fee.

2. Less employee theft

3. Less cost for accounting and cash balancing.

4. Small businesses are at risk of having bank accounts frozen and money seized and prosecuted for structuring. All businesses depositing under $10K are considered drug dealers and money launderers. It happens every day. The government wants to know where you spend all of your money.

5. Civil forfeiture* of cash by state and federal government has become a revenue source. Some states have ended civil forfeiture.

 

* Real-life example. Small trucking company agrees to buy a truck from someone in another state. Business owner withdraws $30K in cash and has receipt from the bank account of the company. Owner flies to the other state to pay and drive it back. TSA finds cash in his carry on and calls in federal marshals. Cash is confiscated. Owner has all documentation, contact info from seller, including the emails and listing of the truck for sale, bank info, etc.

 

No criminal charges are filed, no crime committed, yet the government takes the money The owner has the burden to appeal and prove they are not a drug dealer or money launderer. It can take years and most cases now no longer go through the court system. They are administrative hearings with a bureaucrat deciding . The local government gets a portion of the money, so they have the incentive to find cash.

We’re working on the civil forfeiture here in SC ,  coincidentally as of last week. A lawsuit was just filed against my county and its sheriff for an operation they call “ rolling thunder “.   Filled because they refuse to turn over records on forfeiture. And reasons for traffic stops.  It’s alleged in the lawsuit that it’s believed that $200 million plus dollars have been seized in 20 years of this operation. The estimate is derived from info at press conferences etc where the sheriff will show off the drugs money etc confiscated.  What the public doesn’t know is that the $ is often not connected to the drugs. His press conferences lead you to believe that it’s always 1-1 ratio connected. The lawsuit demands accounting.  And is backed by two non profits seeking justice. Not a payout.  So they won’t settle out of court . They want accounting and moneys returned.  And the practice outlawed. And I’m for that.  

the day we go cashless will be a dark turn.  Grabbing or freezing $ 100k out of my account via a keystroke is much easier than coming to my farm to take it.  
 

This very thing is actually  close to me. In the classic car business cash is always king.  You can’t roll up to some old timers place and buy a hemi cuda out of his barn - with a check. 🤣.  And he doesn’t have an account to wire it to. He wants green backs. Stacks in bands. I once had to bring $13k to an old guy in $1 and $5.  His demand was that.  That’s a grocery sack full of cash.  We counted it again on his back porch. On an old washing machine.  And no laws were broken.  
 

it’s gotten so bad as a small business , everytime I make a deposit it’s a hassle.  Over $10k and they’ll put a hold on it.  Banks are simply making points off your check for 10 days or so under the false idea of your safety.  My wife’s office has a check verification program that they run a check through and get an automatic approval number and places an immediate hold on the issuing account for that check.  You can’t tell me that a bank can’t afford the same tech. They know a check is good as soon as it batches out that night.  They lie.  And siphon off money from me every dang day of the week. All while I’m telling them I have no worries of a bad check. In 23 years in business I’ve never  had one. You know why ?  I hold  the leverage. I’m taking $10k draw checks and holding $50k to $500k in assets of the customer.   I wish someone would 🤣.  I can’t lose that way. But the bank knows best , and thinks they can protect me , better than me.  Lies. 
 

sorry. Rant over I guess. Just an irritating thing to have some entity try to control your pay.  Then want to control how you spend the % they “ let” you keep.
