That pic is wife’s ziti, there’s a place we get fresh mozz, homemade not even refrigerated, comes in a tied up plastic baggie. Stuff is pure evil.

But it’s alot.  And I chose a very stressful career path. You don’t produce. You don’t eat.  And with the advent of technology, I’m on call 24/7 366. But I’ve always been able to make money appear out of thin air when needed.  I can’t imagine not being able to. Basically a hustler.  In the pure and honest sense  of the word.  The consequences of this though is a constant stream of worry. Or maybe more accurately thought.  Can’t be turned off at this point.  I often wonder if I had a different path , if that  mind would be the same or not?   This isn’t treating yourself well.  But I’ll be damned if I can see a way around it. Workhorse has to work.  Or he has no use.  That’s basically the bottom line.  
 

So in all that rambling , I’m saying I don’t think I treat myself bad like normal people mean it , with diet , sloth , alcohol or smokes.  I’m nearly a teetotaler at most of those. But I absolutely abuse my body working , and worrying. To the point that I can’t take time off. I’ll find a way to monetize that , by saying “ this sucks. I could have gotten xyz done today instead of playing golf in the mud and shooting xx” ( insert whatever score makes sense for the reader).    The only time lately I let myself off the hook is for my son.  I’ll quit work if the pope was having me paint the pope mobile and was standing in front of me, to attend a school function or game of my sons.  I don’t care who it is.  I’m going.  And I’m present while I’m there. Phone is off. 
 

So I guess I’m asking.  In the doldrums of life , what is better ?  Better care ?  Is it just diet and physical health ?  Or is it overall balance.  I’m looking for it. But so far it still takes at least 50 hours to make my weekly nut.  And another 20 at least on top of that taking care of the farm in winter.  I do waste time on here. But in the grand scheme I do it usually while waiting for something to do something , or while I’m resting my back from standing.  So I hear ya. I think we all should take better care.  The how is the question.

Good reflecting.  Such things seem like an endless circle but will eventually lead us to the "how" question.  

 

Realizing there is a continuance of this with others down the pages, I'll toss you something that may (hopefully) be of at least some use.

 

Money is like attic space.  No matter how much or how little you have, it all seems spoken for.  The trick is what goes in there, and what doesn't.   

 

You'll find exactly what you're looking for.  It happens in everyday life already.  You look for something in a vehicle.  You expect a neighbor to do something good (or bad).  You pick from a menu based on what you're looking for.   The point is this is exactly the same way.  

 

And last, while I didn't hear you utter it, always remember you CAN help the way you feel.  The old "I can't help the way I feel" is a convenient way of continuing down the same path (usually a negative one) and expecting something different.  You get to decide if today, if smashed tennis balls taste good or not.  Your call!

All you youngsters talking about life and getting older.  One day, almost 8 years ago, on a sunny June morning, i spent an hour pushing the hand mower doing thr trim around the house and garage, then went to Wally world and back home, Unloaded and stacked 60 bags of mulch. The 40 pound bags. And then played 18 that afternoon. I was just about to turn 70, and had not been in any hospital since  the one in Nam. I was in great shape. no problems at all.

The next morning,i had a queasy stomach and threw up......red gunk.....

she called the 911 and the rest is history. Had a AAA and the only reason i did not bleed out was it clotted itself against my bowel. What I am trying to say guys, is do what you can to stay in shape and healthy, but LIVE your life to the fullest, TODAY.Enjoy your family, now! My hats off to never missing your sons events ! I was the same, even with the grand daughter. The whole idea to this extra long winded  post is as you get older,do not take anythingfor granted. Life has a funny way of surprising you ! Enjoy your family and friends.

My son played baseball with a Sbarro. His dad, great guy named Tony, was the son of the guy that started it all. A lot of drama in the fam regarding all the $ and the dad cutting the sons off.

Long ago, the wife would fly off to Paris and designed and managed a flagship Cartier store in the ritzy, old money part of Phoenix. Paul Harvey and his wife were good customers. They lived close by.

 

He would park his big Cadillac around the back and she’d let them in when the store was closed because he didn’t like the limelight. She said they were the nicest, most kind couple. He would hold her hand all the time and they were unfailingly polite and unpretentious.

 

She was invited to the house a few times for small dinner parties and everyone there was the same, she said, including John McCain and his wife, who were also customers and just as pleasant and thoughtful. They had class that transcended their money.

 

Now she’s stuck with scruffy old me.

Can’t speak for you but I know with absolute certainty I clearly out kicked my coverage when it comes to a wife.  Mrs. Reason is dedicated to others first and herself last.  Could post all night about her but it would all point to that. 
 

The best part is she’s still my GF.  From high school sweetheart to four grandkids later - my GF.   
 

What you shared about the experiences with the Harvey and McCain families - I could reread it ten times.  Very cool.

was this small burger chain called Douglas Burgers, that served up a killer hot

pastrami, piled high on a big sub roll. Those were best pastrami sandwiches I ever

had. They were legend when we were growing up.

So many times we read of someone our ages or younger passing on.

 

I’m in that nostalgic mood recently. I’m lucky to be still here and wake up in a good mood every day.

 

Contrary to the false persona I use as a grumpy old fart, I’m not that in real life. I’m actually a nice guy who appreciates thoughtful, non-idiots. 🙂

With you on this. Last day in Palm Desert today before driving to Scottsdale. The wife somehow shames me into going to morning “stretch yoga” with her. Yet more in the never ending quest of good behavior points and kitchen passes. I figure, after golfing for the first time in a year since shoulder surgery I’m pretty sore all over. Can’t hurt, right? (I don’t know anyone there).  Literally 30 people on the lawn including a few disturbingly fit looking men. All easily 10+ years older than me. And everyone in very fancy matching outfits. With color coded yoga mats. Class begins with background New Age music. The kind that would make elevator Musak sound good. Everyone but me knows all the moves. Mrs DT gives me frequent, extremely annoying encouragement. “You’re doing good honey”, when it’s obvious I truly suck. Immensely so. While Joe Limber next to me has grabbed his feet I can’t even touch my knees.
 

 I make it through the introductory maneuvers. Eventually we get to something called “figure 4’s”,  which hurt. The class leader tells us to embrace the pain. (😳💪)  Next up is something on all fours. I tell Mrs DT this is something we could practice back in our condo.     Whoops!

 

Good behavior points now are screwed, so I bail.

I tried out a private gym thing and it was full of those dreadful people. They never sweat and look like they came straight from a TV commercial with their full heads of hair, gleaming teeth and were smiling as they bounced around like puppies.

 

Putting on socks for me requires walls to lean against, things to hold on to and lots of noises.

 

My wife is about 115 lbs. and can bend over straight legged and put her palms on floor. She looks like a fitness model, but thankfully would never go to yoga class. Or drag me to one. I be a lucky guy. 🙂
