Had a friend of mine way back in the day from Church that had a 61 Starliner with a Holman Moody NASCAR engine supposedly. It was sharp Jet black. He called it the "Black Knight". Now this was when he was a Senior in HS and I was like in the 7th grade or so. I know my school bus driver had a 64 Tri Power GTO and claimed to have out ran him several times. I do not know what ever happened to either one of those guys or the cars. I do know they were not around when I got to high school because I would have surely dusted them with my 427 big block 66 Chevelle

I did hit 4 balls with my new Driver, it was anti-climatic but may just play Thursday and see what its got in the tank. Pondering the PING BP S irons since Callaway is stalling on the release of the real irons and to make @TiScape and @braincramp52 jealous (not that they care)🤠

Another one — those 300D Mercedes take almost 12 quarts of 15-40 Rotella. I had one of those drain pans that you can close up and take the used oil to recycle. Opened the drain plug and 12 quarts of HOT black oil starts racing out…..I come out from under the car, go get the new filter….turn back to the car and it’s like the Exxon Valdez oil spill up here.  Something blocked the hole into that oil container and man was that an epic mess!

Rotella IMHO is the only oil to run in a Diesel engine. I had a 86 International 9670 with a 400 Cummins. It was a heavy haul truck. Now SOP with those engines was do an in frame bearing replacement at 200K. Now Cummins had a recall on the Pistons because of some bad ones. I ended up cracking one coming out of Kansas City. Reduced power but not a dead miss. I made it home and used about 6 gallons of oil. I had 350K on it at the time and had never done a In frame on the bearings. i took it to my local IHC dealer for the recall. Now I knew the service manager well and he called me. He said if he did not know me and know the truck he would swear someone was lying. The rod and main bearings were perfect. They were tied in with Shell and called them. I went up there to meet with the Shell Rep and they took pictures. They did not use my truck in the ads because I did not have set service intervals. Basically with me if I knew I would be under a super heavy load and going over the mountains I would have the oil changed. Say I pulled a John Deere 890 excavator from the plant in Kernersville NC to the west coast when I arrived I got the oil changed even under 15K miles. I have been known to change oil at 3500 miles. Like I told the rep you run like I ran and either through the desert or over the big mountains the oil temp gauge would run in the yellow even with the extra 2 gallons in the luber finer filter and an aux oil cooler. Like I told him it was great oil but I could not take chances. Since my maintenance schedule varied they could not use my truck in ads. But they did send me a book full of free oil changes good nationwide at any IHC dealer.

Yeah, I’m already feelin shameful. When logging on this AM I fully intended to be an upstanding member of the WRX community. It went downhill fast from there… ☹️

i would travel to play golf with you folks, anywhere but Vegas. I don't do well in the Desert and @Soloman1 has to be the leader that way the Engineering stuff is taken care, @TiScape has be be in charge of the warm up rountine and maybe we can let @aenemated take care of the music, @bscinstnct definitely the food places.

 

I will bring the rum or whiskey or lemonade, whatever is needed.

 

Pepper would be fun, personally I would love to meet the man and maybe get a real job. Not this sissy Salemans crap I do now.

Well I chided the PGA Tour some on cancelling the last round at Pebble. That was until I saw the gravity of the weather situation for the folks living there. One of those times I put my fingers in gear before engaging my brain.

I cancelled my league play for today. They as SOP started at 7:30. It was like 38* with 35 mph winds. I had taken the big boy out to do his puppy business at 5:30 and even though I was clothed good my back and left side locked up some. Now with what I had on I could not hit a golf ball anyhow. I called the guy putting the game together for today and cancelled. I am not risking hurting myself this year and not being able to play to April or so

Back in my Hollywood ad days, I was working for a firm that's office is the CNN building at Sunset and Cahuenga.

 

 

That one. This was around the time Larry King was retiring and kept bringing in a whole buncha folks like every day, all the time to interview. 

 

Back of that building is the sorta "private" entrance so it's where limos would pull up to drop foolz off to go get interviewed. It also happened to be where I took my smoke breaks. 

 

Living in LA and Hollywood, you kinda just don't even care about celebs rolling around that much. So people rolling up, I'd usually just ignore (Conan O'Brien is one I did make it a point to say hello to because ... I love Conan) 

 

One day, I'm out there and as usual, black Escalade rolls up ... and who jumps out but freakin Iron Mike Tyson. Dad was a boxer when he was in USMC so growing up in the 80s, we watched a whole lot of boxing on HBO. So of course, Iron Mike was always a dude I thought was otherworldly. So I barely even thought before I shout out "How ya doin, Champ?"

 

He looks over and goes from mean Mike to smiling Mike ... and walks over to me. We chat for a minute, I probably said exactly that above to him. Talked for a couple minutes and finally one of his handlers was like "Need to get going" ... and leaving, he gave me a hug. 

 

A HUG. 

 

Internet says Mike is 5'10". BS. I'm right at 6' and he was remarkably shorter than me. But man ... that hug, I was like "This dude could literally crush me right now if he wanted to." That ish was a squeeze I won't ever forget. It was nuts.

 

Always liked Mike and after having a chat with the dude, love that guy. I ran into a whole buncha folks in them Hollywood years (Brad Pitt is as cool as you'd expect - taco joint near another old office that was right by a studio he owns; we both went there A LOT) but that was my favorite.

This gonna come off as a tot flex 💪🏼 and shameless braggodociousary, but it was a long road back. So after not lifting any weights for ~2 yrs during the pandemic, yesterday I was finally able to benchpress the 110 lb dumbbells for 12 reps. Bench was always my weakest lift, so it felt great. Gotta keep movin as we get older! 🙌🏼💪🏼

Life happens and as a result posting activity here will slow as other pursuits gradually ramp-up.  Will be around but less so.  (Why do I hear the words “Don’t let the door hit your backside on the way out”). 😆 

 

You guys are the trustees and stewards of how the Grille goes long term.  I’ll share what I think about that but who cares what I say?  Consider it or round-file it.  Your individual call(s).  
 

This was all born as a place for good fellowship.  It was a grille setting not a locker room. Sons, daughters, young folks, older, people from all over the planet and all walks could sit among friends.  They’d feel welcome and not notice spit on the floor or graffiti on the walls.
 

As to what constitutes spit or graffiti and who would or wouldn’t pull up a chair in here… that’s a decision made each time the submit button is pressed.  Sometimes we get the chance to be part of something a little bigger than ourselves.  We tend to try preserving it ahead of squandering it.  Definition as to how such an environment should look?  Can’t and won’t decide that one for others.  It’s a lock my words are sinking in for some more than others.  Welcome to the internet - 😂 

It never was about champagne with the pinky finger off the goblet.  Wasn’t about flirting with thread-lock either.  Wasn’t about censorship or a single individual lording over the daily banter. 
 

That was the original intent.  The rest is in everyone’s hands every day.   
 

Who sets up another form of Grille or where they park it is all good in my book personally.  If they’re lucky, it will go well enough folks enjoy both it and each other.  
 

We should actually be flattered anyone would even try to do it, but maybe they’re smarter/better at it.  Options are good.  We have one now.  Maybe there’ll someday be 10 Grille’s to stop by and pull up a chair.

 

Will see you all now and then.  Just less often.  Take care of the joint.  Would be disappointing to  tune-in and see the old girl finally blew-up.  

Keep it “reasonable” while keeping it real.

Ya, was like midish 80s Tyson was hype but don’t think undisputed champ yet, me and couple friends were in city and went into this hot dog place, eatin hot dog and in walks Tyson with couple his boys! People lookin like wtf?!

 

He super low key, casual. Like you say, he not very tall, but his neck like thicker than his head 😳

 

He takes bite of hot dog 🌭 and turns to his boy and says in that high pitched voice,

 

”It’s good right?” 🤣

 

Nobody got within like 10 feet of him, he exuded this extremely dangerous aura and you just knew he could kill everyone in the place in like 10 seconds!

Agree. That’s how I saw it too. More than a bit harsh. His (aen) response was way bigger than I would have been. I would have gotten pissed and defensive.
 

I like @aenemated even if we seem to be a bit apart on our music preferences. Ok, maybe more than a bit. And who really gives a flying f**k if he and I, or anyone else, disagree on golf course favorites in So California.  Man it’s all completely subjective. 
 

Eg. I don’t much like the Waste Management tournament, but 60,000 fans this weekend will be trying to prove me wrong.
