That’s work! 110 lb DBs be 300 lbs + barbell bench I’d think. For 12 that’s dope!

 

My “heavy” chest lift, no gym mind you, is to put like 50 lbs in my vest, feet up on bed, then lift my caboose and do “pike” pushups so it’s angling between 45*-60* if I were doin incline press. If that makes sense lol. 
 

Is good! Keeps my reps between 8-12

I like @aenemated even if we seem to be a bit apart on our music preferences. Ok, maybe more than a bit. And who really gives a flying f**k if he and I, or anyone else, disagree on golf course favorites in So California.  Man it’s all completely subjective. 
 

Eg. I don’t much like the Waste Management tournament, but 60,000 fans this weekend will be trying to prove me wrong. 
 

It’s supposed to be fun. 

I like the course and the tournament. So I don’t get bothered by the ancillary stuff. I did draw the line at the throwing trash on the coarse. That fired me up when it happened. Even better that a few WRX’ers thought it was “awesome” and if you didn’t agree you were too old! 😂 

Gotta love this place.

That one. This was around the time Larry King was retiring and kept bringing in a whole buncha folks like every day, all the time to interview. 

 

Back of that building is the sorta "private" entrance so it's where limos would pull up to drop foolz off to go get interviewed. It also happened to be where I took my smoke breaks. 

 

Living in LA and Hollywood, you kinda just don't even care about celebs rolling around that much. So people rolling up, I'd usually just ignore (Conan O'Brien is one I did make it a point to say hello to because ... I love Conan) 

 

One day, I'm out there and as usual, black Escalade rolls up ... and who jumps out but freakin Iron Mike Tyson. Dad was a boxer when he was in USMC so growing up in the 80s, we watched a whole lot of boxing on HBO. So of course, Iron Mike was always a dude I thought was otherworldly. So I barely even thought before I shout out "How ya doin, Champ?"

 

He looks over and goes from mean Mike to smiling Mike ... and walks over to me. We chat for a minute, I probably said exactly that above to him. Talked for a couple minutes and finally one of his handlers was like "Need to get going" ... and leaving, he gave me a hug. 

 

A HUG. 

 

Internet says Mike is 5'10". BS. I'm right at 6' and he was remarkably shorter than me. But man ... that hug, I was like "This dude could literally crush me right now if he wanted to." That ish was a squeeze I won't ever forget. It was nuts.

 

Always liked Mike and after having a chat with the dude, love that guy. I ran into a whole buncha folks in them Hollywood years (Brad Pitt is as cool as you'd expect - taco joint near another old office that was right by a studio he owns; we both went there A LOT) but that was my favorite. 

 

 

And that is why I like to hang out here. Love the stories.

Seriously tho, that’s awesome bscin. Only thing you’re missing there is not getting all the stabilizer muscle work that you would with DBs.

You guys are the trustees and stewards of how the Grille goes long term.  I’ll share what I think about that but who cares what I say?  Consider it or round-file it.  Your individual call(s).  
 

This was all born as a place for good fellowship.  It was a grille setting not a locker room. Sons, daughters, young folks, older, people from all over the planet and all walks could sit among friends.  They’d feel welcome and not notice spit on the floor or graffiti on the walls.
 

As to what constitutes spit or graffiti and who would or wouldn’t pull up a chair in here… that’s a decision made each time the submit button is pressed.  Sometimes we get the chance to be part of something a little bigger than ourselves.  We tend to try preserving it ahead of squandering it.  Definition as to how such an environment should look?  Can’t and won’t decide that one for others.  It’s a lock my words are sinking in for some more than others.  Welcome to the internet - 😂 

It never was about champagne with the pinky finger off the goblet.  Wasn’t about flirting with thread-lock either.  Wasn’t about censorship or a single individual lording over the daily banter. 
 

That was the original intent.  The rest is in everyone’s hands every day.   
 

Who sets up another form of Grille or where they park it is all good in my book personally.  If they’re lucky, it will go well enough folks enjoy both it and each other.  
 

We should actually be flattered anyone would even try to do it, but maybe they’re smarter/better at it.  Options are good.  We have one now.  Maybe there’ll someday be 10 Grille’s to stop by and pull up a chair.

 

Will see you all now and then.  Just less often.  Take care of the joint.  Would be disappointing to  tune-in and see the old girl finally blew-up.  

Keep it “reasonable” while keeping it real.

About half of it is a joke. Just a dry sense of humor.  Everyone has marital problems. And he will let you know what the Joann fabrics forums says about it. Along with giving updates on Liz and the team’s psychological assessments.     What would be even funnier is if it were all real.  🤣. Then I’d be on the outside and I’d get a huge kick out of that.

Ya, what I’ll do alternatively, is I’ll use less of an elevation for my feet, and do “one arm assisted” pushups so 80% of the weight/lift is on one arm!

As an unsolicited recommendation, I’d look into adding some instability. A low cost and easy way would be to perform your PUs with ur hands on something like…

Haha, nah. Trying to help you get stronger, better, push yourself… A lot of our limitations are in our minds, not bodies. Start obviously w/less weight and work up to it.

Ah the good old days when I would even try that weight, used to do reps with the 100's never tried the 110's as there were not any in the gym I went too. Now when I do the 100 lbs I have on the bar in the back yard and my shoulders scream at me and things are popping and grinding I regret those 100 pounders. 

Stay strong brother, it just hurts more as you get older. I have kept up fairly well with my work, dropped down to 215 and holding and the strength is up some. But I also have to go on Biologics for the arthritis shortly which will require self injections every other week, oh the joy and I just got my medicare card in the mail so it is official, I am toast.

I know it Jim. I do a lot of rotator cuff band work and always thoroughly warm up the complex. My 1st set yesterday was with 20 lb DBs. Work hard, work smart.

It is ashamed us old guys just have the "used to stories" but I do have a good one about Richard Branson I don't think I have told, but then again maybe I did, memory is another thing that slips away with the body.

 

I had hoped to be able to post a pic of the 65 year old ripped dude by now, but I am just too lazy, like cookies and it hurts to do that as much as is needed.

At least ten years ago I was sitting in a then very small bar / restaurant called The Dove in Roadtown, Tortola BVI with my Friend and Customer having a drink or three. I was sitting on the corner of the bar which was only about 15 ft long and Richard Branson came in a sat down next to me around the corner with his daughter. He was dressed in cutoffs and a T shirt like he did not have 2 dimes to spend. 

We were having a nice conversation as my friend did work for him and it was just very relaxed, at about midnight the Owner locked the door and we all stayed drinking and talking until somewhere about 3am, needless to say we were all wobbly by the time we left and the next morning going out to the jobsite was not good. 

Well about 6 months later I was back on the Island and sitting in the same place at the Dove alone this time as my friend had another place to be, about 9:30 or so Richard walks in and sits down next to me and says " hi Jim how are you doing" I was shocked he remembered me and said so since he is deals with so many people. 

He looks at me with that big smile and says " of course I remember you we sat here for 6 hours getting pissed" we proceeded to have another interesting evening eating at the bar and again drinking way too much.

He is about the most down to earth person you would ever meet and just nice to everyone, in Tortola nobody cares who you are just that you are pleasant to be around.
