I asked my friend's wife in Bogota how she dealt with all the beautiful woman there and her husband. She said with a straight face "we Colombian woman are crazy and he will not be a man anymore if I catch him" she was relating to a knife to the nether regions. I look at him and he nodded his head and said " I am afraid and behave"

She is drop dead gorgeous also by the way.

My wife is pure Italian on one side and pure swedish on the other, so a swedish meatball and crazy in all sorts of ways. When we were young it was exciting, now it is scary.

We stand on 14 tee boxes that might require driver.  Where did all the other strokes go?  

 

It occurs to me we're GUESSING out there a lot.  Our best read for a putt is a guess.  Born of experience and hopefully a well-educated guess.  Our idea of what break and speed combined amount to.  We're guessing.  How we apply feel or technique to achieve what we just imagined... best guesses piled on guesses.     

 

Yet we're supposed to fully and confidently commit to each and every putt.  Every shot for that matter.   Can't play this game without commitment.  

 

Are we golfer cursed or blessed?  We seem to own the ability to make full-on commitments to guesses! 

 

I once heard the term "confirmation bias".   Once you believe something is real, then it is. Personal example.  I want to look down and see a relatively thin topline on the iron.  Prefer minimal offset, and not a fan of fat-bottomed soles.   I've come to believe that's the way to fly.

 

Why then was I shooting in the low to mid 70s back when phone booths were a real thing - swinging a set of Ping Eye's??   Cause I believed they were the bomb.  I didn't know they were - I just believed they were.  

 

 

 

 

It's a guess, may or may not go in but I'm committed to putting that thing with a stable head and torso.

 

Confirmation bias is also true.  Recently read a book about golf psychology.  Overarching message was, we play up or down to our self-image.  If we think we're good players who have good habits, we'll tend to play up to that level.  If we get down and don't think we're good players, more than likely the result will reflect that image. 

 

It's why certain players can get drunk, party, etc. and the next day they feel great and think they can make 10 birdies.  Might not get that number exactly but they know they have it in them and play darn well.  It's also why I got nervous on the final putt of my best round ever, part of me was questioning if I even deserved to be in that spot.  Luckily I made it!

I guess it might be possible for Tyson to throw a couple of punches like he used to.  I always say that I started decomposing at about 55.  So Mike could very likely still knock a guy out.  And BITD IIRC, if Tyson caught a guy flush, that guy was pretty much knocked out.  But he'll have to do it early.   Actually, I don't know anything about Jake Paul. (He's not the guy who played Breaking Bad's sidekick, was he?)

Good question. Paul has def been hit hard as he’s fought some legit ex-MMA champions. Tyson still looks like he’s in great shape. At the end of the day I’m a ‘don’t hate the player, hate the game’ guy. So good for both of em. No hate here 😊
