So I went out and played Monday.  And on the back nine, I hook up with a 3some consisting of an Asian gentleman and his wife and one of the local boys.  They were not acquainted prior to the round.  Things got weird.

Earley in the proceedings, the Asian bloke told me that his name was Wong and that the woman was his wife.  Didn't tell me her name.  Now I relay that to the local guy and a joke pops into my head that maybe he is Wong and his wife was Wite, because that's how it seems to go with my wife and I.  Now, this is important.  I don't mean a bit of disrespect to Asian folks.  I just thought that was a little funny.

But now the local boy sees that as a racist thing and he's off to the races.  Cuz he's obviously a big-time racist and he thinks he's got a new friend.  Eventually, when I didn't join in the reindeer games, he backed it off.

Back to the joke, though.  Is it racist?  I guess the experience would indicate that if you're a racist, the joke is racist.  But if you're not, it isn't.   Which says nothing.

Less important is I shoot something in the mid-80's.   Trying to get used to just getting a little bit of sound out of the shaft down there at the bottom.  As an old bastage, you still have to give it everything you've got.  You just have to remember that everything you've got is not really much anymore.

My take on ur joke. It’s pretty funny, but inappropriate only because you just met these ppl. Kinda like a ‘know your audience’ and air on the side of caution when around new ppl.

So because I didn't know this guy was a racist, my joke was inappropriate?

Not at all close to what I’m saying. I’ll just say I’m the guy that typically has no issue saying what everyone else is thinking and I wouldn’t have said it to someone I just met. It’s not for me to insinuate or say what is “racist” and therefore refrained from doing so. For me it’s not knowing if it would offend someone that I just met. So I wouldn’t have said it in that scenario. Just my opinion.

Listen.  Don't ask me why, but I don't click on anything.   Are you talking about that giant planet killer that looked like a cross between a Havana and a turd?

yep the giant turd that ate planets, I thought I had the picture so it would just show. But nope, have to ask my 5 year old granddaugther how to do it.

My problem is that I could never in a million years see how that could be offensive to anybody.  I would tell that joke in a room full of Asians.  Might go over like a lead balloon, but I don't see any malice there.  But you're a younger guy than I, so you probably have a better handle on that type of thing.

There is the issue. A man of ur vintage thinks it’s fine and it definitely use to be. Times have changed and you should be aware it is indeed offensive to some in this day and age. My dad is 88 and I regularly talk to an 80 yo at the gym. More than a few times things have been said w/no malicious intent in public and I’ll simply say w/a smile, you can’t talk like that in public anymore. Don’t shoot the messenger 😊

I saw that. I wonder if Jake Paul has ever been hit a hard as Tyson might still be able to hit?

Yep, I want to see one uppercut on the button. He won't wake up for a week if at all.  I bet ole Mike still has some tremendous power, even old guys still have one or two good punches left. Might only be two but that is enough sometimes.

Can't outrun anyone so have to end it quick or get pummeled and healing hurts too much.

Of course it’s racist ; )

It reminds me this joke my father would tell, I definitely won’t share it here, same thing, mocking the manner of speaking.

I mean, no offense, you seem to want an honest answer,

I'm going to expose how much of a "Star Trek" nerd I am.  Without Googling, I will say that Kirk finally destroys the planet killer by driving the Starship Constellation down it's throat.  He got the idea from Commodore Matt Decker, the C.O. of the Constellation, who did the same thing with a shuttlecraft.   Decker was played by William Windom.

I appreciate the perspective.  Times have absolutely changed and I don't believe it's for the better.

Ha ha, the wife and were big fans of the orginal also.

Myself I was a Seinfeld junkie for years, must have watched every episode a 100 times. There is a copy of the painting of Kramer that the old people bought on my office wall above the box set of all the shows right next to the assman plate. Oh and a signed Soup nazi picture also.

thinking something and saying something are different. my sensibilities wouldn’t let me make fun of someone’s name i just met. he didn’t choose his name.

i used to play a lot of golf with a black guy. he was the general counsel for mlb for a decade and teaches sports law at a university now. every once in a while, he’d needle me when we were playing a match against two other guys. he’d choke on a hole and say, “sure, blame it on the black guy.”

i’d fire back later about using my white privilege to win a hole. it was all good because we knew each other well. and it was mocking racism.

strangers? i’d never dream of saying it. but, that’s just me.

But I didn't make fun of her name.  I made fun of what her name might possibly be.  I guess I made fun of his name technically, but almightygod, is that where we are these days?

Yea you got me there, it is in the same vein but not the one you speak of. I have looked at that picture 1,000 times and never noticed the difference. the cigar should be the give away.

The portrait you have is much rarer.  I didn't even know it was out there.  And does the world need two portraits of Kramer?

@Soloman1 the sled has been giving me a hard time lately, really I am rolling the ball very well and burning edges so I think it is my setup / alignment. Any drills to bring things back to the hole?

As we spoke about before it is the 4-6 ft putts that are the issue, anything outside of that is either a tap in or in and that is out to 20-30 ft. I normally just write it off to the space between my ears and not enough playing time, but it has been a few weeks of this type of thing.

I don't think so.  The joke is Wong/Wite, wrong/right.  Nothing being mispronounced there.  But I get it.  By today's standards (specifically, if anything could possibly be considered racist, it is) it is racist.

I had one for about a week, just too ugly and did not help a thing. As always it is not the Putter, the roll off this putter is nuts, no skidding and it loves fast greens. Of course the 4 courses we rotate thru every month are goat tracks and any given weekend they could be fast or like velcro. About time for them to start punching them when the yankee's leave, which I hope is soon so I can get a tee time during the week early and start sneaking in some more rounds.
