Yes- this ^. Same background. With a solid home base backing I could have been top level in several sports.  That’s not the point though. The point is that when it starts t leave. You feel it in your soul.  And there isn’t a thing that will replace it.  Slowing it down is a maybe.  Debatable.

I can feel it in my golf swing.  The speed is down.  And the strength at the top is down. The tow go together with balance. You cant make speed without balance. And you cant balance without strength.  It’s like I was spider man 5 years ago.  And now I’m Batman relying on gadgets to supplement.   10 years ago I could walk down a roof being framed and only have a 2x6 under my feet with no hand holds up top.  Last week I hired a guy to go on a shed that’s 10 feet off the ground to put some screws in after we had some wind. Why ?  Because sometimes I lose balance n the shower if I close my eyes.  I don’t trust myself up there now , even if walking on a full roof.  .

You’d be surprised

My father RIP retired at 60 and got extremely fit. He was literally climbing trees into his 80s!

One time we both went on the roof, he was about 81 and he’s standing on this very steep slope on one part of the roof. Moving around, walking up and down.

I could barely keep my balance up there and meantime I’m doing the karate kickboxing workouts 🤣

Oh I know. And I genuinely chuckled when I saw it.   🤣I’m not special. I know it. And I know it’s all relative.  65 year olds know I’m nuts. Tell me so.  And I get that context. They’d trade with me to have a do over. Same as I Wouid with a 25 year old. But the flip side is. I also know the truth.  And it ain’t good. A couple years ago a mentor who’s  dead and gone as of last year, told me “. If I told you the truth you wouldn’t  believe me. And if you did. You’d quit now “.

ive  come to know he wasn’t FOS.  Because I do the same thing with my son. I don’t dare tell him the truth on a lot of things.  The outlook is too bleak.  These truths have to be fed a bite at a time.

What I’m not quite  sure of is if it’s contextual to just me. Or to someone who’s wasted as much as I have , or what ?   All ?

“ to whom much is given , much will be required “. Was his quote that he used to squash my whining.  Kind of lately ties into that revelation I mentioned here the other day.  About how a lot of people have no inner dialogue.  And yet success or peace seems to fall in their laps.  (And I know that  envy is the thief of joy. ) So I pretend to be happy for these  amoeba level IQ slobs that are on their 7th vacation of 2025.  And ask me to tune up their new toy.  🤣..   they all have very little conscience for fair dealings , or community.  Somehow I’ve ended up as the one with too much of that.  While being often accused of their crimes , by them if I raise a charge that’s stood since 2015.  Getting old man.  All of it.

I’m sorry.  I’m clearly on my second expresso. And spinning out.  Going to go back to work.  Have a customer coming in later that says “ should have been done last week. And I’m not paying full price now “. I have his crap by the door.  Anything short of an immediate 180 and he’s fired.  My cup runneth  over.

Blade, we all go through this mid life thing where ya feel like JM

“oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone”

Ya get older and you become very conscious about it and all you’ve done, haven’t done, coulda done…

and heck it’s all true to an extent

but then you’ll adjust settle back into things and not think about it too much

But as far as taking care of your body, two things.

First, that hard cardio can do wonders for your mindset

Second, whatever life serves up in the years to come, you’ll be better off to deal with them if you maintain your fitness all around.

Man, this a concept that we are really trying to pre-emptively get right before our daughter arrives in a few months. We want to raise someone who will be a functioning, viable member of society, but hopefully without giving her a full-blown existential crisis by middle school.

One of my old startups was based in West Hollywood and the office was right by Sunset Plaza; wherein there was a great lil coffee shop. Might still be there.

Fabio was one of the regulars I'd see damn near every day. Really nice dude with absolutely no illusions about who he is.

You guys honestly scare me.  I’m 45.  And I’m used to being bullet proof. Like top level spacial awareness balance and flexibility.  To the point of drawing hate from those around me because through my 20s and 30s I’ve had the attitude that “ I can do it why can’t you “?  It took me this long to realize that most cannot. And I’m talking in the every day farm and shop tasks.  Pick up two 50lb sacks of seed or feed and follow me. The other person might get the one sack and follow me , but some can’t even do that. That’s led to buying equipment to work smarter. Not harder.  Ok. So I bend.  And now it’s easier on me too. Examples are endless.  But now at 45. Death seems to surround me. I help those family members it’s after to fight it back. But I’m a wide open aware realist.  It’s going to get them.  Sooner than later.  I’m being given heirlooms. Guns. Tractors. Cars even.  Things to save for posterity.  And I gladly will do that chore.  But. It’s heavy man.

I get up Monday.  My 17 year old cat - taco.  He can’t get up. I walk with him all morning. Carrying him. Trying to help him walk. . He just can’t balance. Can’t hold his bodily functions. Won’t drink etc. So I make that hard choice.  Make the call. Appointment set at 2. I take him outside and we just sit in the sun. He’s not in pain. He’s content. And then the time comes. And we take the last ride.  I just wrap him up in a towel. And cradle him. ( doc says likely stroke ) After , I bring him home and go straight from the truck to the barn for a shovel.  And go to my cemetery and bury him with 25 years of lost friends.  And all the while I’m working in the hard ground , I’m thinking “ once my body fails. I’m useless. I have no means to support  myself “.  Been a hard 4 1/2 years man.  On guard 24/7. 365.     It’s a wild feeling to know that the gifts are slipping away.

Debbie downer.  I know.  Just triggered something in me I guess.

So sorry, blade. Had to make that same decision twice with cats in the last 2 years. First one we had for 20 years and she just wore out. Stopped eating much, couldn’t get around very well. Then she went blind and couldn’t find her litter box or food. We carried her trying to figure out what she wanted or needed. Couldn’t let her out back where she loved to be because she might fall in the pool. Broke our hearts but she had no life by then.

The second one was a few months ago. A stray who took up here 8 years ago. She developed a big tumor in her mouth. Nothing they could do, surgery would have removed most of her jaw and most cats don’t survive that.

Burying a pet is one of the hardest things there is. I've done it far too many times.

Blade, I have a lot of the same thoughts about retiring and not working until I drop.

Today playing golf with my 85 yr. Old friend that has been in the hospital a lot for the last few months and really is melting away, he hit a really good drive for him and the pure joy on his face made me appreciate how lucky I am just being out there.

As for fighting the robots, it is coming IMO.

Will I be here when it happens? Probably not, but I will be training my granddaughter how the use a firearm when she is old enough. It could be a valuable skill when the crapple goes down and most of the sheep are rounded up and put to work.

Mrs. RoverTiger made it out for nine holes this morning and played pretty well! You'd never know that she hadn't picked up a club in a few weeks.

If she can do that at the start of the second trimester, what's my excuse? 😂
