Nope. They also had to wait for Rory and his partner to hit up to the green before they could putt. They played up as a foursome and then putted separately.

Rory's recent political comments about OUR country have him on my $hit list. The last thing I want to hear is a 25 yr old non citizen's opinion of US politics. This would just add to it.

 

He was asked a question and he answered it. He didn't say anything unusual either, just reflected what most people in the world think.

 

Not true. He has, more than once, taken open opportunities to express his anti Republican views with wise cracks and backhanded "jokes". Let's see if his principals keep him from allowing himself to cash American checks when there's a Republican president.

 

Criticizing a politician, a political party or even the US Government/President does not make one anti American and it is ridiculous that people like you conflate the two. The fact is American politics effects everyone on the planet and every educated person on the planet should have an opinion. If Rory is asked for his opinion he is absolutely entitled to give it.

 

An articulate, intelligent, and informed opinion isn't something I'm going to criticize. It's the snide backhanded comments that I, and others, do not appreciate. I certainly don't agree with much of what goes on politically, but commenting on another countries presidential candidates in an immature and disrespectful manner just happens to rub me the wrong way.

Yea. One should definitely be in Europe. But the problem with moving them out if the US is that some players might not play in them anymore, look at the HSBC. If the Mexico one is a success, then they should try and move another one. You have to start somewhere.

Mocking politicians is an absolutely essential part of any healthy democracy. We have a great tradition of political satire in the UK (as I'm sure you do in the US), sometimes it is sophisticated and sometimes it is quite crude, either way it is essential. Perhaps it is more acute here because our head of government is not also our head of state but I digress.

 

Rory's comments about jumping over the wall to play the WGC in Mexico were actually very funny. I'm not sure what he has said in the past but if he said anything anti-Republican that would put him in a minority of about one among PGA Tour players and some plurality would be most welcome.

 

The driving force of your offence seems to be Rory should be grateful for the opportunities that America has provided rather than mocking the hand that feeds him. While I accept that there is strong tide of anti American sentiment amongst many in Europe (partly inspired by American intellectuals such as Noam Chomsky) there is no way of Rory's comments can be construed as such. Again I reiterate the point that mocking a politician is in no way the same as mocking a country or a people.

I'd have one in S America, one in Asia, and one in either Australia or Africa. WGC should be about exporting the worlds best around the globe. Anyway, if all McIlroy did to offend the delicate flowers in the GOP was make a joke about walls, then he has gone even higher in my estimation.

maybe that is the disconnect then....I took it as a jab at "we stupid amuricans " as well.... being a person who was raised by a Man ( my grandfather) who hit a mine coming into Omaha beach , swam to shore and walked on body parts of his fellow "amurcans" then helped push all the way to France and finish freeing Europe its tough to hear the anti american sentiment that is out there. Im certain Rory didnt mean anything quite as offensive as some of the idiots who make the "amurican" jokes, But its a touchy subject for those of us who saw 1st hand how much that generation of Americans gave to the rest of the world... The weight of that war stayed with them for their entire lives. And i have seen 1st hand the anger that anti american protests with flag burnings etc brings to the surface . Can you imagine going through that at age 18-21 and then having to watch folks mock your country years later as a bunch of redneck idiots? I get that the freedom to do that is what democracy is about... and it is allowed, but that doesnt mean one has to like it ... I dont know what the point to my Rambling here is , except to say that per Capita we do not have anymore ignorant uneducated folks than any other place ..... there are toothless wankers everywhere. I can certainly understand your sensitivity to sneering Europeans who are largely ignorant of or in denial of all that America has given and continues to give the rest of the world. But I just don't think Rory belongs in that category.

Do it. I can think of no finer way to show solidarity and support for what he represents than by emblazoning his moving, patriotic rallying cry upon wedges that were assembled in Mexico.
