My first custom Byron -- order placed 6/30/2016

had to share the excitement - just got done finalizing the design with Steve; deposit made. ETA 6 weeks.

 

she's going to be:

 

615 Tri-Sole (American Stainless)

Welded Long Neck

Full-Shaft Offset

73* Lie

3* Loft

35.5" Length

350g Weight

Deep Tuna Mill

Sight Dot on topline (Gold Paintfill)

Finish will be polished blue oil on the neck/sole/face; brushed blue oil on the top/cavity

(1) Tour Dot on the face by the heel (Robin's Egg/Tiffany Paintfill)

"BYRON" in the cavity with special stamping (White Paintfill)

"Byron & Co." stamping around the tour dot on the face (Gold Paintfill)

Naked Sole

Black Leather Stitchback Grip

Robins' Egg / Black Embroidered magnetic closure cover

 

 

**7/21/16 Update** -- well, won't lie, I'm pretty bummed. Just got off the phone with Steve to hear that the welder isn't around till August 1st. My Byron hasn't even been started yet. Tryin to stay positive, was hoping to have it for beginning of August for our club championship - now i'm just hoping to get it before the month of August is over.

 

**8/15/16 Update** -- just spoke to Steve, apparently mine is one of many that are getting welded shortly. may the bumming continue. Steve wasn't in the office so, he said he'll get back to me with a better idea of timeframe since he couldn't give me much more than "let's just say we're getting closer" via text...so, i'll just sit back, sigh and wait. 7 weeks in.

 

**8/20/2016 Update** -- spoke with Byron and Steve, putter is getting finished up and shipped/delivered this week. But, Byron sent me some pics and its flat out, gorgeous.

I've been waiting since Thanksgiving for my copper plated DH89 to be re-plated (original plating had an issue).

i think the shape was more like old tigers, and DJ's...i liked the bumpers a bit more square.

Cool. The shape looks really good. I love the shape of DJs putter with the short heel and softened bumpers. Rounded corners look so good behind the ball to me.

Don't want to thread jack, so I'll just say it isn't all on Byron. He's actually been great about the whole delay.

Any time you order a putter that gets plating... mystic, copper etc. It's usually a good bit longer of a wait time. Unless your order is on the tail end of when a batch gets sent in. Usually Byron will have the work done on the putter and then it will wait for weeks to get the plating. Feel free to reach out to me with your frustrations and I'll try my best to see that you get answers. I promise they're worth the wait. I waited 15 mos on a handmade damascus in 2014. :)

Eddie - i don't have any plating on mine -- just blue oil.

 

i'd assume all the other work can be done in a decent amount of time, no? i was hoping to roll this at some point in august -- my birthday was pushing it (august 4th) obviously but, would be nice to roll her on decent grass before the fall comes.

ah i gotcha. might be why Steve is so hesitant to give me a revised ETA. initial estimate is clearly out of the water. won't lie, it was between this and a custom damascus lajosi -- i got this as a gift so, you can understand my eagerness to get my hands on it. (can count on one hand how many times in my life i've been fortunate enough to own something so nice, handmade just for me, of significant value -- golf clubs or not)

As someone that sells Byrons work....Byron cranks them as fast as he can. Sometimes it's as little as 4 weeks sometimes longer. It's always worth the wait. Byron is a one man operation, every stamp every letter of paintfill done by him. He makes hundreds and hundreds of putters a year. It's always worth it, I promise. Hang in there. -EA
