Adam Scott with 917 at WGC

Recommended Posts

Not surprising. It is THAT good. hit 75 balls with it during the filming of the commercials for it and the sound or lack there of is beautiful. It is LONG.

How does the c16 compare to the 917? Did you hi tht d2 or the d3?

I personally want to see what the D4 looks like

I hit the D2 and D3...remember these were not set up for me and were stock shafts so I can't give a true comparison but I can say one thing. The course we were shooting at I have played tons of times and I was hitting the driver ( not set up for me) in places I was kind of surprised. about 10 yards farther than normal on solid shots. For example the first hole is a 392 yards from the back tee and it's uphill usually into a breeze. There is a bunker about 310 off the tee and I usually hit a smooth easy driver just to the front ( at 6500' elevation). I teed up the 917 and hit 5 drives about the same speed I would hit my 915. I hit 3 in the bunker and two just short around normal. The quietness of this driver is what is nicest.

As for my C16- IT's hard to compare them but It will take a lot to pull the C16 out of my bag. I have posted on this previously that the Titleist folks explained to me the differences in the two ( 917 and C16) and that there is 3 different metals used in the C16 that they said would be to expensive to mass produce. I think that the C16 is slightly louder than the 917 but not sure. The C16 set's up so nicely in my hands and I feel confident I will hit the fairway every time. The folks who play with me regularly have remarked that I am driving it better than usual and that is already a strength of my game :-)

42. Hit driver 310 uphill into little breeze. And hit the fairways nearly everytime? Either lies or making a living from golf

Where did it say he was 42? Also, this is at 6500 elevation, and if you look at the shafts he plays he's a boomer for sure. NOT to mention, he's a +3.6 'cap. Please do your research.

Gotta love the personal attacks on here. Ever played at altitude? also you don't have good reading comprehension. I said I FELT like I would hit every fairway and my average fairways from the back tees is 10.8 right now. last time I checked there was a possibility of 14. That is not every one. Driving is very much the strength of my game. putting is not. if I could putt I'd be making a living at this game. Better yet. care to check my GHIN? every round is attested and submitted at the club.

For those who have hit this club how does it look at address compared to the 915?

looks similar but its dark grey. my one dislike about the C16 is that it looks like something out of NASA. The 917 looks a ton better

After his win last week Greg Chalmers was on radio here in Melbourne saying that he had picked up maybe 15 yards on his drives with the switch to the 917.

At the age of 42 that is impressive. Sounds like Titleist are on a winner

I play regularly with a guy who knows Greg well and has played with him on tour for many years and he brought up his comments. I said yeah maybe that was a little scripted and he laughed. He said " No...that was pretty genuine. You are suppose to mention your sponsors but you don't get paid any extra to go into that type of detail. That was super legit"...made me appreciate the comment a little more.

Great info in this thread KirkNo-yes. Thanks for taking the time to post your opinions/observations. This has really piqued my interest in the new Titleist gear.

appreciate it. As a long time Titleist fan I caught the wondering eye with the 915 head and went to a M1 tour issue. Shockingly though I went onto the trackman and my tour issue Titleist D3 was way faster than my M1 with the exact same shaft and overall length. I put it in the bag (915) almost reluctantly because of the sound. When I got to hit the 917 I was skeptical that it was going to be a solid rebuttal. I had the C16 and thought it's going to take a $hit ton to knock it out of the bag...while that hasn't changed I will say if I can get my hands on a tour issue 917 in the right head it could have me feeling a lot more comfortable of going back into the normal titleist number rotation. They have really stepped up into the distance market with this. Don't get me wrong...this won't end up being a cult classic like the old 510TP B stamps, M2 3 wood or Slder but it will put them back in the discussion of which driver to purchase for people. Well done Titleist.
