hunter 2010 vs recent

Noticed these changes in Hunters swing compared to 2010 when he was among best ballstrikers on tour. Who knows what else hes changed with Foley. Nothing against foley. I would take a lesson with him anytime but just think its interesting and like the 2010 action better which is on the right hand side. Seems hes cocking the club much more vertical on takeaway and backswing, anyone know what else hes changed?

Pretty small change to my eye. I little less upright on the right. Maybe he was just trying harder to hit a draw?

The P2 condition might just be an effect or trying to achieve that more upright shaft angle at P3. DD made a swing analysis video of Schwartzel a while back (pretty sure it was that one) discussing how the off-plane condition achieves a later and better loading of PA3. Personally, I like these new positions he's in.

He's always been a great driver of the ball. His iron play has been really problematic, especially from the Red Zone (175-225 yards). He was a great Yellow Zone player (125-175 yards), but part of that was his great ability to keep those tee shots that end up in the Yellow Zone in the fairway (where others are in the rough more often).

But now his driving has regressed (107th out of 202 in Driving Effectiveness) and his Yellow Zone Play has fallen off the earth (196th) and he is the 2nd worst player from the Red Zone.

You never know what is really going on unless you're there, but he's 34 years old which is right around the prime of most PGA Tour careers and he's now at a his lowest point of his career.

Yea I know of the steep to shallow stuff and agree with it. I just prefer the old one of his swing better. He shallowed on downswing better back then as well. Nowadays there are even video of him coming down a bit steep with shaft on downswing which I don't think I ever saw him do before

Kids and life?

This and the camera angles are a bit different. There is a lot more to his scores than just simple swing quirks holding him back.

There are lots of videos out there, I just grabbed two really quick. I agree more to it than swing but I'm sure him and foley like to tinker.

Those are interesting stats Richie. I watched him hit a shot at memorial couple weeks ago from like 195 in fairway, ball started like 50 yards right of target and sliced even farther. He cussed outloud at himself after it, lol

The two camera angles are different, so comparing positions is worthless.

They're close enough to see the difference in positions

You would be surprised. 6 inches of difference in camera can play a huge role. These might be slightly different but most likely it's pretty insignificant.

How do you determine camera position? I look for where a vertical line overlayed on the image would intersect the target. I'm assuming the target from the feet and in this case it looks to me like the picture on the right shows a camera position right about the hand line at setup and the picture on the left is maybe just inside that. If either of them was on the target/ball line, wouldn't he be aligned WELL left of his target? Also, his hands at P2 in both pics are in a similar position relative to his legs - maybe a few inches off. That's how I'm reading it, anyway.

I've played around with camera position myself since I want to remain consistent with my own practice and I do notice some differences for sure in different positions but I didn't think that a few inches one way or another would make that big a difference in the shaft condition at P3. Maybe I haven't experimented quite enough with it.

I played around with the angles in my garage and can see how they would look pretty different.

But are these 2 angles off by that much, though? I'm trying to understand how to determine where the camera position is (as close as one can) from a picture and knowing what I know about perspective in photography. These are the first frame of each of those videos and his alignment looks so similar to me (left arms/feet relative to right, amount of left wrist visible, hand space to thighs, virtually identical amount of logo on hat, etc...) that I struggle to see that the camera positions are so different.

Unless we're talking about height, in which case, of course, I agree. But somebody said one is on the target line which can't be true at all since we know that the camera must be on a line in the center of the frame (unseen foreground, of course) which I've drawn in black. So I think we're not talking about height but about horizontal positioning.

In addition to just how his body lines look relative to each other, I also struck lines to suggest where I think his intended target probably is. That's just based on his feet but should be fairly close. And a line back from there to the ball will approximate the target line. Both of them are so similar when I do that that, again, I'm struggling to determine how the camera positions are so far apart from each other.

yea its hard to find exact camera angles comparing. I just noticed it from watching his recent motion compared to back then. Seems they were working on getting shaft steeper on backswing. Still like both his swings, its a great swing. Heck I watched his swing on the range at memorial and was a thing of beauty but Id still probably like his swing around 2010 better

looks similar to me and didn't think he was ever one of the best ball strikers on tour

What looks similar to you? The swings or the viewing angles? The swing looks considerably different to me but the camera positions don't. We haven't been able to discuss the swing differences because of the claims that the viewing angles are too far apart. I've put up evidence which, I believe, shows the camera positions are within a few inches of each other. Nobody has explained to me how they've determined that they're too far apart to be useful (worthless, was one word that was used).

I've asked people to explain to me how they're determining the discrepancy in camera angles. I showed my evidence in post 18 above, claiming that the angles are very similar - within a couple of inches. But nobody has shown any evidence to support the claim that they're off. Since you think they are, please show me how you came to that conclusion.

Not intense and definitely not fighting. And it wasn't that you said the swings look similar - it's that you said the camera angles are definitely off. I'm just asking how you determined that. That's all. I've been told by 3 or 4 people that the angles are too different to discuss the two swings. I've presented what I think is sufficient evidence to show that they're actually virtually the same horizontal placement but nobody has told me where my error is if I'm wrong. If they're different, just explain how you determined that. It's not a fight - it's a difference of opinion and I'd like to know how you came to yours.
