Two of the big 4 will never win a major again

There is a distinct possibility of this but I think with Rory and Speith breaking through multiple times and how easily Speith could have won two additional Masters, I think the odds are in their favor to win more. The jury is still out on Day and Johnson though. It took them quite some time to get their first major, but then it look how long it took Phil and now he has multiples. Day and Johnson are also still very young and they are LONG off the tee giving them a definite advantage in majors as the courses are always playing long. So to say either of these four will not win another major is definitely a long shot, but it could prove to be true but I think the odds are in favor that they will. It could be as soon as this year's PGA.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least is the op is correct. Couples, Scott, Venturi, Duval Azinger were all a lock to win more. But have not. Early success is not a guarantee of continued success in majors.

Hmmm.... Help me find which ones on your list won two majors by age 25..... or anyone who won two majors by age 25 and never won another major.

On the other hand, I agree that nobody is a lock to win.

That's my only point, there are no locks. Jerry Pate win at 23 and was a lock to win more, nope. Keegan Bradley, Tway was 26.

Whos the big four and what makes them big? Dustin was not a part of that club a couple weeks ago and none of the other have done anything notable recently. Rory has 0 wins this year and only a top 3. Richard Fowler has a 2nd place finish. Why is Richardo not in the club? Isnt a 2nd better than a 3rd?

All 4 of those jabronies together are still not good enough to hold Tiger's jock in his prime.

Yeah well neither can Tiger, so...

Since the OP made such a bold prediction, I will too.

I agree. None of those 3 will win another major, especially Keegan.

If I had to pick 2 of the 4, I'd go with Day and McIlroy:

- Day is hot right now, without a doubt. But he has some serious past injuries (back, thumb) that are likely compounded by the fact that his action is not the most tailored for longevity. Plus there's the vertigo... serious business. It's pretty easy to draw parallels between him and Duval, who sadly all but disappeared after his maiden win at Lytham in 2001 due to injuries and vertigo.

- Rory is just at a bad point right now, he always has run hot and cold. He'll most likely bounce back, as out of the 4 players listed I think he has the best A game, but it sounds like he's got a lot going on upstairs at the moment. Some guys just can't overcome that kind of stuff.

You know, I can kind of see it.

Early call on McIlroy and Speith.

You're on, I'll take Day and DJ.

+1

If we have to take 2 of the 4, it'd be these to to not win again. I'd feel much better about this bet after this week though

DJ and Spieth if I had to ,

its a hard call any way you slice it ... rationel

Speith is too sensitive and if he does not get a major soon the media will grind him into the ground adding more pressure...

DJ has made more mental mistakes in past majors and sure he he is hot right now but the other guys for the most part have had better careers and seem to have more drive...

whats a riskier bet , 2 of 4 dont or all 4 do ?

Of the 4, only Rory is certain to win more majors. They're all capable, but Rory has a Tiger-esque gear that when he reached it, however inconsistently, no one can live with.

He is just lacking that "swagger" at the moment. He even walks differently when he is playing in that Tiger gear. Just that... je ne sais quoi... a certain hop in his step. Its amazing, I don't think anyone is closer to Tiger in his prime than him

Injuries, life, kids... Or just someone, like Stenson at the Open beating Phil. Sometimes you play your best and don't win, even Rory. I would expect he will will more but no guarantee.

It's just rory. Terrible putting = end of competitive career

Watching his PGA press conference. 11 of his 15 events this year (2016) worldwide he finished in the top 12. 8 of 15 in the top 5 with one win. That's a long ways from awful.

Hal Sutton. Won twice before age 25 and a major at 25. Tour leading money leader and player of the year at 25. How many more majors did he win? And according to most the tour is so much deeper and harder to win now.

So it's not a given with anyone.

I think his putting is catching a lot of criticism because he seems to be hitting it well yet isn't scoring - in reality his putting is probably seeing undue pressure because he's not hitting irons close enough to the hole. For a guy who's #1 in SG Off-the-Tee, being ranked 125th in proximity-to-hole on approach shots says a lot about what his problem is this year.

True, no more majors, but aside from an 8-year drought between 1987 and 1994 he won consistently (total 14 wins) over his career. Bonus points for capping it all off with the 2000 Players Championship over an in-his-prime TW, with a near-flawless Sunday that included 17 GIR.

He's earned his way out of this discussion IMO.

EDIT: Nevermind... for some reason I thought I was over in the "Worst Player to Win a Major" thread. :blush2:

worst thread ever in the history of the internets.

Without a doubt! OP makes you think he's got the two picked out and is ready to defend his picks, then....nothing.

Like the line from Fargo: "So you're sayin'...........what are you sayin'?"

How can anyone say that about these young guns? Spieth could easily go on another tear, and you know the bombers should all win another one ,especially DJ.....That was funny.....
