Two of the big 4 will never win a major again

PS-you are saying that DJ will win more majors than Rory. You realize that?

; )

Yes. DJ has fire. Rory is losing his desire to be the best. I don't see a lot of intensity in Rory these days.

"DJ has fire"? Which channel are you watching the golf on???

Really!

That's "fire"?

DJ looks, acts and talks like a guy on quaaludes.

It's fire under the covers.

Showed us some that fire yesterday!

This thread is pretty funny !! So Jordan Spieth basically finishes first or second five majors in a row yet that doesn't impress??

Right on brah

And in that almost 3 masters in a row. Has that ever. Ever ever been done ?? That kid will win 2-3 more green jackets alone. He owns Augusta. Augusta thinks it got him this year. And it may have won the battle. But he will win the war. Wait and see.

So you've already penciled him in to have as many Masters as Arnie and Tiger...if that isn't putting the cart before the horse, I don't know what is

Recently he finished 2, 37, and 30th.

Padraig won 3 in 2 years while Tiger wasn't around, and did nothing afterwards.

And to be very clear, he had NO business winning the US Open last year, DJ choked that tournament like nothing since Greg Norman. He had a putt to win and a putt to force a playoff and missed both.

I could list lots of majors that were won when somebody faltered including the Masters this year. Jack and Tiger won lots when their opponents faltered. DJ made one bad putt last year at the US Open. He didn't choke like Norman. Not even close.

The other point is that Spieth wins tournaments ONLY when putting lights out. As in WAY beyond the typical tour pro. An average PGA tour winning from week to week has about 5 strokes gained putting. When Spieth won the Masters, he had nearly 10 SG putting. Same goes for his recent win at Colonial, I think it was a little over 9.

So give us the stats on all of his wins if the can "ONLY win" when putting lights out.

Also, give us stats on others such as Day when he wins.

Or do you not have the actual stats?

BTW, 55% of his strokes gained at the TOC were NOT putting;

"Jordan Spieth started 2016 the way he finished the 2015 season, by winning. Spieth won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions beating the strong field by a whopping 4.3 strokes per round. He led the field in putting, gaining 1.9 strokes per round, which accounted for 45 percent of his total gain."

Also, this. Jason Day AVERAGED 10.4 strokes gained putting last year during his hot streak so maybe he also "cannot win unless he is putting lights out".

http://www.pgatour.c...-jason-day.html

Day won the Barclay's with 9 strokes gained putting.

I don't think Spieth is any different than others who win. They have to be putting well.

Remember Spieth double bogeyed the 17th hole at Chambers Bay, if he hadn't done that then DJ's finish wouldn't have mattered. He then finished one shot out of a playoff at the Open by narrowly missing a putt on 17 for par. Then finished second at the PGA...

I think melo just doesn't like Spieth, lol, and apparently doesn't like facts either.

This is true. Spieth was #4 in strokes gained tee to green and #9 in strokes gained putting last year. That's not exactly a one dimensional player.

Of course it is. But Spieth did not exactly display a tough closer mentality at the US Open last year(+1 on the last two holes) or at this years Masters(Ya know the story on that one). Hopefully for the Spieth fans he will overcome those issues. But careers have gone down in flames over less.

Have you already forgotten his finish at the Colonial? He birdied the last three holes to win.

Oh, and BTW, he birdied the 72nd hole to win the US Open last year. You don't usually choke with a birdie.

Rory had 3 majors by the age of 25. The only others to do that? Nicklaus and Woods. He's special.

Jordan has 2 majors by the age of 23. He will win another in the next 2+ years to join Rory, Tiger, & Jack. He is special, but plays a different style of golf.

Day can dominate, but is older (28), has had much less early success than Rory & Jordan, and has an injury history.

Johnson is the oldest (32, not many win after the age of 35, so he has the fewest chances left), has the least fundamental swing, has the most painful losses (and most likely the most demons), & would seem to be the biggest partier.

IF I had to choose 2 to not win another major, I would choose DJ & Day. That said, I just don't think that will happen. I don't think DJ will win another, and I'm quite sure Rory and Jordan will. Day is the one that I'm on the fence about, although heavily leaning toward him winning at least one more.

After doubling the previous hole Spieth did birdie 18, which Johnson did not. Realistically he birdied 18 to get into a playoff which was not needed because DJ 3 jacked. I'm not arguing he's not a good player, but my opinion is he has peaked and will win occasionally, maybe another major or two.

No one knows, it's all opinions.

I still believe that Rory will win the most majors of those 4, sure he's struggling right now but he was awful in 2013 and then came back in 2014 to.....well you know the story. Writing him off now is hilarious.

Here are the stats for the top 11 in this years open, where DJ won. They are fairly balanced at about 25% for each category. Johnson was 30th in strokes gained putting and still won. Many guys have a margin for error.

http://www.usopen.co...ing_record.html

When we talked about Tiger, many times we said he could win with his B game, and that if he brought his A game, NO ONE could beat him. I feel very similarly about McIlroy, though we rarely see his A game anymore, I think because he is complacent and content.

Maybe the best way to describe how I feel about Spieth...

If you had the "big 4" in a tournament, and they all brought their A game, I believe Spieth would finish 4th.

Rory is the most likely to finish with the most majors. Many posters here clearly don't understand how enormous an advantage it is to have 4 in the bag already.

With 2 at 23, Spieth is clearly second.

Day has been on an incredible tear for the last year and has a very small chance of passing the other two.

DJ's chance of finishing with the most is so infinitesimal that it isn't worth talking about. I doubt he'll even finish fourth among the current players under 40 (Bubba and Kaymer have 2).

Jason Day- will win 1-5 more majors and have to end his career early due to injury, do to over working and his swing.

Dustin Johnson- will 2-10 more majors and never have winless season, unless he get injured. His swing will last and he will be able to make it last. The little muscles are the first to go, Johnson uses his big muscles to swing club. His hands stay still.

Jordan Spieth- will at least 10 more majors including this week, 2017 Masters, a Grand Slam in 2018. I might be crazy but I'm right. He is better than all of them. He just has to realize it.

Rory Mcilory- will win one more major in his 20s and then fade off. He doesn't have the drive to practice, he doesn't really need to, since he keeps on top 5 and top 10 (back door) each week. He will win another major late in his career. After he is a distant memory.

Looks like no win for spieth

Regardless of what happens, that 18th hole is why Day will win more majors.

Day has learned how to win and he gets the ball in the hole. Great putters last. I think he'll win some more. Same with Speith. He can get it in the hole. Rory's got so much talent, but putting matters a lot when trying to win. He's got to get it back. DJ to me is the guy most likely not to win another out of the 4 of them. He's got serious talent but he's kind of in and out too much of the time.

Based on the title I thought the OP was going to cite Palmer, Nicklaus, Woods, and Faldo.

Turned out he chose four young guns.

Sad because this new member was off to such a good start. The thread is good for a laugh though.

Well, if I recall, Mr. Spieth has played in three Masters Tournaments as a pro:

Second

Win

Second

Three events, three top two's. Not too shabby.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure all of those four probably have another major in them (barring some disastrous injury or illness). And, in 1986, the Masters winner won a major after a six year drought, and at 46 years of age. All the "big four" as you call them could do something similar at any time over the next 15 years (again, barring illness or injury).

But what really caused me to check out this thread is that I thought you'd mention Patrick Cantlay and Bud Cauley...
