Time to admit the truth - Golf is not a sport and should not be in Olympics

Lets really not kid ourselves Golf is not really a sport and is no way anywhere near the calibre of what sports men do at the Olympics. I admit I am pro Golf at the Olympics but the more I look at it the more I realise this must be the biggest joke of the Olympics. I feel that of all the sports Golf, along with Shooting, Archery should be dumped. The truth is any of the sports men and women competing at the Olympics would have been a world class golfer and surpassed many if not ALL of the current Golfers if took up the trained and game at the same age. However, NONE of the current or past Golfers could had been a world class Olympian out side Golf. Olympians train 1000x physically harder, are by superior mentally and compete at levels to represent their country at level no Golfer can dare to dream of. Sorry No captains pick at the Olympics. lol

I just cant see how a Golfer can stand shoulder to shoulder with a track and field Athlete, swimmer, boxer, weight lifter, rower, cyclist, Gymnast etc? The general public laughed when they said Golf was included - they even laughed louder when the top male Golfers bailed out due to fear or being not in perfect surroundings. How on earth can anyone call these pampered Golfers sports men? :cheesy: It's even more embarrassing for these pampered men when many of the top lpga players dismissed the cowardly men and decided to represent their country in Rio. Lydia Ko, Lexi Thompson, Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, Ariya Jutanugarn, Charly Hull, Sei Young Kim amongst others are going to Rio while top male golfers bailed out. LOL!!

Let the men stick to the Ryder and Presidents cup at some country club. That's the level they can play. Now we know the truth lets sit back and watch stuff that matters at Rio. :nyam:

Yep, those badmitten players train "1000x physically harder, are by superior mentally and compete at levels to represent their country at level no Golfer can dare to dream of".

I also don't see how a golfer can stand shoulder to shoulder to a ping pong player and the equestrian riders. It takes a lot of physical stamina to ride a horse.

Golf should be included in the Olympics, but it should only be amateurs and be a team event.

I agree with this however each country should send their best athletes.

As for the OP and posting this nonsense, nice troll bait. I guess I participated.

Just realized that my 1000 post was in this silly posting, I feel like I wasted it now :(

How many threads do you want to have locked......Why no mention of Rory in this post.......My guess is, you are afraid he will kick your butt, which of course he could easily do. You really need to quit embarrassing yourself this way.

Your a 24 handicap, golf to you isn't sport. Its a hobby.

For people that play for money and compete at a high level. Its a sport. I grew up playing hockey. I can be honest. I never had to mentally zone in while playing hockey, I just played. But in golf, I always have to be mentally in the zone.

Golf is a real sport because you post a score. Now, let's talk diving or gymnastics where a judge gives you a score based on their opinion...talk about an activity.

Sport - noun - an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Yep. golf is in fact, a sport

+1

One of my definitions of a "sport" is an activity in which tools of work are often converted/adapted and used instead for pleasure in artificial/arbitrary environments, (courts, tracks, fields of play), with objectives such as points and goals awarded when successfully accomplished.

Golf may be one of the most complex sports in that while the objective is consistent, i.e. getting a ball in a hole in the ground, virtually all the other parameters vary, from the environments (golf courses vs. a basketball court, a circular track, a baseball field...other than the outfield wall dimensions). and tools of the game (clubs vs rackets or bats and gloves) and their (required expert) use vary with EVERY "shot."

Stadiums are often built for the olympics so building a golf course isn't all that different. In fact, that course could be converted into a public access multi-use park...a real benefit for the people who live there.

Golf should be included in the Olympics, but it should only be amateurs and be a team event.

So why did US and Euro PGA lobby for it to be only pro's when the IOC proposed having amateurs like Boxing? Oh let me guess to appease their corporate sponsors. Golf is all about corporate sponsors and money. And people say IOC is corrupt lol

You're full o' blue mud, sparky. A beagle can outrun Bolt, a gorilla can out lift Rezazadeh, a gibbon can out flip some 4'8" teenage girl, but when was the last time you saw a seal deliver a rock right in the middle of the house, or a chimp foil the fancies of a fencer? That's right, never. Manual dexterity and craft are what separates the rest of the animal world from us humans (my apologies if my inclusion of you assumed too much). So, hail curling, badminton, and now, golf!

I won't argue about golfers having to be nearly as fit or strong as some other athletes, but it has to be up there with the most demanding, mentally challenging sports. You can play basketball, be in phenomenal shape, be a freak of nature, then have an awful game and still get a win due to your other teammates. You have a bad round in golf, and you are missing a cut and getting no money. Hell, you have one bad shot and you just lost your PGA card.

Lol at thinking Badminton players are not fit? You make a big fool of yourself. No golfer can play at their pace. Very few sports men are fitter than badminton players. 58 year old man was beating up the the so called best players at the majors a few years ago. Where else can you see a so called sports man smoke and play a sport - only Golf. I am calling it guys the truth may hurt but this is not a sport and has no business at the Olympics

Golf more physical than this? lol
