gs1184
I don't know any other game or sport where left handed players get more grief from people than golf. Baseball for example has left handed and right handed pitchers and batters and they all serve a strategic purpose and it's all matter of fact. As a lefty golfer I always get the usual "oh my a lefty" "playing from the wrong side of the ball" and what not. I have been asked "how is he lefty swing different" and "how can you hit it so well.... You are a lefty." Nothing like the smart donkey remark from proshop salesmen after I see their pitiful left handed inventory: "why don't you relearn the game right handed?". Makes me want to buy from them. The funniest one I heard outside of golf is "In the dark ages they would have burned your on a stake" So lefties, what funny or weird remarks do you hear from people? Wriggles
I tell the folks I know that they obviously didn't go to parochial school (if they are of a certain age). I vividly remember the nuns breaking anyone who was lefty of that "habit" PDQ. When I entered first grade (didn't go to kindergarten) I already knew some reading/writing skills taught by my mother. My mother tried to make me a righty, but I wanted to be like my Dad, a lefty. In first grade, the old teacher, who had been my mother's teacher, tried repeatedly to make me a righty, without success. She finally gave up. Fast forward some years, when I became somewhat right handed due to machine shop work. Lathes and such are not designed for left hand people. My first job as an accountant (minimum wage) found me looking at the ten key calculator while entering numbers with my right hand. The sadistic lady office manager used to slap my wrist with a ruler to keep me from looking at the keyboard. I became a right hand whiz with a ten key due to her abuse. She should have been a nun. PS: To answer the question, I get the wrong side of the ball, all the time.

Tcann32
I get crap all the time, all the typical knee slappers. It's all in good fun, and usually warrants an explicit response towards friends. In league, anytime I hit a flop shot, which I do regularly, it NEVER fails to get a "oh hey Phil". A long drive is automatically "Bubba". We stand on the RIGHT side of the ball. Any lefty I've ever played with is an above average golfer. And do any lefties not know how to hit some sort of crazy flop shot? It's interesting that the Phil and Bubba comments get thrown around as little jabs since looking at them you have one of the longest hitters on tour (Phil's no short knocker either), arguably the greatest short game player the game has ever seen, and between the two, they've won over 40% of the masters tournaments in the last 12 years... Out of essentially two prominent lefties, they've won nearly half the green jackets in an OVER ten year period.

Bush Pilot
I get some real odd looks when I pull out my left-handed driver on some slight dogleg right holes. I play righty and have all right handed clubs, but stick a left handed driver in on occasion. I tend to draw everything and sometimes it helps having both drivers. If it's not in there I'll bring a left handed 7-iron for those times I'm stuck against a tree or fence. I shoot left in hockey and am a switch hitter in slowpitch. I used to think this was super weird, but I have to meet many people who play hockey and golf from opposite sides. Bonneville85308
95% of the time I get the stupid "you're on the wrong side of the ball" cliché jokes. It really gets old. The "nice shot Phil" on a good flop shot. Etc. Occasionally I play with 3 other lefties and this throws everybody else into stupid comment overdrive. Club availability seemed to get pretty good for lefties for awhile during the 1990s and 2000s but has pulled back. Now at Golf Galaxy we are regulated to a small rack in the back corner of the store. For whatever reason pretty much every fellow lefty I've ever been paired with was a great guy to play with. My home course has probably at least 7-8 holes where a lefty who hits a draw off the tee has a huge advantage.
