Leftys: what remarks do you get from people you encounter?

I get crap all the time, all the typical knee slappers. It's all in good fun, and usually warrants an explicit response towards friends.

In league, anytime I hit a flop shot, which I do regularly, it NEVER fails to get a "oh hey Phil". A long drive is automatically "Bubba".

We stand on the RIGHT side of the ball.

Any lefty I've ever played with is an above average golfer.

And do any lefties not know how to hit some sort of crazy flop shot?

It's interesting that the Phil and Bubba comments get thrown around as little jabs since looking at them you have one of the longest hitters on tour (Phil's no short knocker either), arguably the greatest short game player the game has ever seen, and between the two, they've won over 40% of the masters tournaments in the last 12 years... Out of essentially two prominent lefties, they've won nearly half the green jackets in an OVER ten year period.

You keep telling me that you'e on the RIGHT side of the ball but, as far as I can tell, from the perspective of the HOLE, you're on the WRONG side! LOL

On another note, I've never witnessed anybody giving you any crap about being left handed or you posting "mirror image" photos of your clubs online or the fact that your putter points backwards. You're obviously suffering from some form of paranoid schizophrenia.

Very ironic you bring up paranoid schizophrenia seeing that I'm watching "A Beautiful Mind" right now lol.

My best ball partner is also left handed. We are both named Kevin, both overlap, both are right hand dominant.

I agree with the poster who mentioned that he's never played with a lefty that wasn't a decent golfer.

I haven't received too much grief for it but maybe a nice shot Phil or something dumb every now and then. IMO the worst is the " hey can I try your driver?" From a righty.... Absolutely not.

I had a co worker who had been playing golf for 2 years and was off 14 at the time. When found out I was left handed, he responded we should go out and play opposite hand one day. I said no, I like to actually play well.

I'm lefty, but play golf right-handed. So, this makes me the absolute worst offender...

I don't make comments since I'm one of them. But, when I go to a driving range, I CAN NOT have a lefty in the stall to my right.

Drives me nuts. Makes me feel bad for lefties, since they are always facing someone at the range. Unless they're alone or in the left-most bay...

I've played often with three lefties. What they all had in common was they were great players, two low single digit caps and a professional. I've come to believe lefties are blessed for golf. I might be wrong, but anyway I've never seen a left handed real hacker.

It sounds almost as if you are narrating a science TV show referencing a different species.

"With the exception of writing with paper and pen most habits of lefties such as talking, walking or mating are essentially the same as righties."

Anyone listen to Jim Rome?

The "you're standing on the wrong side of the ball" is a classic Triple U. Yech.

Triple-U

Triple-U is from the Jim Rome show. It is when someone says something that is Unfunny, Uninspired and Unreadable (especially when texting).

Jim:

I was delivering flowers the other day, and before I could ask the receptionist where Mrs. So and so's office was she blurted out, "Ah, are those for me? Ah, you shouldn't have".

Mel:

That's the tiredest triple-U I've heard in a week.

I read somewhere that the "lefty" thing was possibly linked to poor nutrition. Who knows? Let’s face it, we are what we eat. A proper diet is a good choice regardless to whether you’re trying to get back to being a righty or not.

Even in the best shape of my life, I was never able to right handed..

Actually I'm a bit ambidextrous and can hit a driver ok right handed. Wouldn't bring it to the course, but don't look like I'm trying to lick my elbow while patting my head with my own foot.

Many of us are right hand dominant, and being a lefty just flowed over from other sports. You're technically wrong to play hockey right handed unless you're left hand dominant.

Plus, you guys have Charles B. on your side, so trying to prove a point based off what side of the ball you stand on is nullified once he picked up a club and joined your side. I'm a lefty and have never taken a lesson. That guy.... just is.

Stop and think about all of the sayings out there:

You’re on the RIGHT track.

RIGHT on!

You have the RIGHT of way.

Did you order the code red? You’re GD RIGHT I did!

I’d give my RIGHT arm for that new driver.

Hang a RIGHT, I live on that street.

Being in the RIGHT place and at the RIGHT time.

YEAH, that’s it, a little more to the RIGHT

Substituting LEFT in any of these statements is just not RIGHT.

I counter with:

I'm glad I LEFT my crazy EX

The LEFT lane is faster

A LEFT handed batter hitting down the third baseline almost always get's on base

Nobody expects a LEFT hook

I'm happy to have LEFT work to go golfing today

This is fun Ferguson. haha.

Not many comments. The usual problem is a right handed golfer driving the cart, it takes a couple of holes for them to remember to drive to the other side of the ball for me. I usually offer to drive ( I really prefer to walk if the greens to tee distance makes sense ) My daughter is a true left hander, plays left handed and played HS golf. Golf equiipment can be hard to find in order to try. OEM's make them, stores just don't stock them.

Wait until the press catches wind of this thread. I'm sure lefty golfers all over the world will start an uproar. Phil M. will lead the charge asking for a steering wheel on the other side and left-handed toilet paper dispensers in all restrooms.

Didn't Dunlop make a left handed ball in 2005?

How in the world does a perfectly round object behave differently from a right to left handed strike? haha

Just last week I saw a lefty female golfer. Maybe I haven't paid attention before, but I felt like I was seeing a unicorn.

Rbh-

You haven't been paying attention.

Over 40 years ago, Bonnie Bryant won the LPGA Bill Branch LPGA Classic in 1974.

Julia Potter won the USGA Womens Mid Amateur Championship in 2013.

Sam Adams won the Quad Cities Open in 1973, using Ben Hogan Apex Irons.

Stay tuned. More to come.

Oh yes....

It isn't how....it's how many.

I've never really received alot of grief other than previously stated "normal" lefty comments, wrong side of the ball etc. It's funny when my dad and I play together and get paired up because we're both left handed and people will say something about two lefties in the group. I just hate shopping for clubs because I feel like left handers get slighted, but selection has improved recently.

Well, that ball was released on April 1, if that helps.

Also, you lefties have all the selection at the end of the season! One of my pet peeves is seeing a big wedge sale, and a selection of 99% left handed clubs. :)

I've been the only right hander in a foursome many times. A few buddies are lefties, and so is my dad. That's a pretty unusual group.
