I am anew member living in Latrobe, any members living in Western PA? What courses do you like? I am a member at Glengary.

I grew up in Sharon, and my parents still live there. If you're up for a drive, Oak Tree in West Middlesex is a very nice course that was completely private until a few years ago. They have public tee times now.

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The Mystic Rock course is one of my favorites I've ever played. Used to caddy there a few times a year. It's Pete Dye to a teet, so you'll probably either love it or hate it. I really liked the elevated tees and mountainous landscape. Also if you check out golfnow you might be able to find a very inexpensive ($35) tee time.

That's awesome! Any courses you recommend in Pittsburgh? Played Pittsburgh national and birds foot this summer. Both were in good shape

Totteridge is always good minus their bunkers. Drop some scratch at Olde Stonewall for some back 9 target golf. I always enjoy Quicksilver as well.

Yes totteridge is very nice, bunkers are horrible. On Wednesdays it's all you can play for $50. We played 45 holes the other day with a day hole scramble.

From Latrobe your better off heading into the laurel highlands then into "da Burg". It's probably 45min and never any traffic. Get up there before the beautiful foliage starts to fall (end of sept) and your playing in a mess of leaves..

 

Seven springs and hidden valley are both awesome resort courses. 7springs bought hidden valley a few years ago so they have a double pass that gives you 18 at both courses for 100$ With cart.. The courses are about 20min apart so an easy long day trip for 36 at 2 really nice courses.

Indian lake was the first course designed by Palmer and is about 1hr 15 from Latrobe. Nice overnight cabins

Nemacolin needs no "hype" if you have the loot to get on its an amazing course.

 

In your side of Pittsburgh grandview is the best choice. Plan on playing it a few times and don't keep a scorecard on the first.. It's a target golf course that you will never score well your first time out. My brother lives out your way and scores golfnow deals for 17-20$ with a cart for 18 most of the time.

 

Ps. I like the Laurel Valley or Nevelwood ideas.. Not sure if that's a joke? To get on to either of those courses you need to make in the 7 figures.. My grandfather belonged to Nevielwood before he passed.. What a xxxxxx snob fest!! And Laurel valley is a corporate account cc. My dads friend has a company membership there. It's the only course I've ever heard of where their are no monthly dues. You/your company gets one bill a year. They divide the operating cost$ by the number of members and you pay the same dues if yo played 300 rounds or 20 rounds.. Old school!!

Latrobe Elks on 981 or 2 headed towards New Alexandria is a IMHO a very nice track...Indian Lake as mentioned before is again IMHO freaking horrible, I wouldn't play that place again no way, no how!. I play Glengarry probably 10x / year, I only live about 5 minutes from there...Norvelt GC is where I play my league on Fri nights, we (friends n other league players) like it there, very underrated track IMHO too.

That's awesome. I really like the elks. I am a member at Glengary. I like totteridg and meadowink, I don't mind Norvelt, it's always busy though and very short. Played Pittsburgh national last summer, wasn't a huge fan.

Champion lakes isn't bad either. We have a league there. But the fairways are always beat up.

Yeah lots of Driver, 1/2 wedges at Norvelt!, I don't mind Champion, not my 1st choice it's kinda different to my eye to me nothing really suits my eye off the tee. Now Totteridge is a nice track, I try n play as much as I can there...I usually get to Latrobe at least 5x year...LOVE that place!

it is very tight and greens are lightning quick....there's birdie holes but there also opportunity to make double or worse as well if you're not careful.
