Grind retail Newport to 009?

Anyone done it? I'm certainly not capable myself, but are there any services out there that would? I know there are a number of smaller putter companies that make products very similar to, if not better than the 009, but if I already have a (number of) retail Cameron's, I figured I'd give it a shot. Plus I'd like to avoid spending 500-1000 dollars for another putter.

The newport needs more metal on the bumpers not less. Grinding will only exacerbate the fact that a newport looks nothing like a 009.

Buy a PING Scottsdale Anser (that is what the 009 is ), may I recommend the nickel version, problem solved.

Even if you grind the bumpers to look 009ish (which I doubt one can pull off) it still won't look like a 009. The cavity width is also very different from Newports. It's noticeably wider.

If you don't want to lay down the $$$ on an 009, instead of destroying a Newport trying to turn it in to something you can't, I would suggest ordering a Byron DH89 or a MannKraft MA/66. Those are a couple of my favorites anyway........ :)

Yeah, dh-89 is a saved eBay search, but even used you're looking at $500 it seems. Haven't paid more than $180 for a Cameron and I've got 7-8 different newports that I like. And yes, of course it would be smarter to spend a lot of money one putter that I like, but that horse has already left the barn.

This. I've done this a couple times to upgrade. Does two things, gets me into the putter I really want, while cutting down all the putters I've accumulated over time

I think you'd be surprised how much you can get by selling off a bunch of the new ports you've probably accumulated
