2017 trip to Wisconsin and Michigan

So I am looking at putting a trip together for 2017. I would fly into Milwaukee and then drive and start at Lawsonia

1. Lawsonia Links

2. Sand Valley

Drive to island casino

3. Timberstone

4. Sweetgrass

5. Greywalls

Then drive to Forest Dunes

7. Play the loop twice

8. Forest dunes.

Then from there thinking of taking Ludington ferry to mantitowac(sp)

Stay in Koehler area

9. Play Bull at Pinehurst farms

Fly out of Milwaukee

I know it seems like a lot of driving but I live in Texas so I'm used to it. Is there anything I should change?

Take me with you...

I was going to suggest Hemlock if you were in Ludington, although I've not played it. Between Tullymore and Pilgrims Run I'd do Pilgrim's every time. Tullymore I found to be the most overrated, overpriced course I've ever played, and that's not an uncommon opinion. Pilgrim's is one of my favorite courses, ever. I know you mentioned skipping Arcadia, but it's a beautiful course and setting as well.

Already looking like I will fly out of Grand Rapids. So won't be taking ferry. Will probably skip Arcadia, Kingsley and Belvedere. Might try to stick Tullymore or Pilgrims Run in at the end of the trip. Perfect 4 some seems like a no brainer

You have a fantastic list here, but I'd reconsider skipping Arcadia. It's an incredible track, especially for the price, and probably has a better lakefront experience than any course on your list, which is part of what defines great golf in this region.

If I were coming from Texas to loop Lake Michigan, I don't think I could resist the call to Arcadia Bluffs considering how close you will be, relatively. Your list is beyond reproach but, with the possible exception of Sand Valley, there isn't a course which will provide the singular experience of Arcadia Bluffs (apologies to Greywalls etc.).

Still, I understand logistics are logistics. Sounds like you'll have a golfing good time no matter what

Decided I am going to take out either sweetgrass or Timberstone and add a night stay at Arcadia. Play a round at Arcadia bluffs and then go to forest dunes for two days. I think my schedule will go as follows

1. Fly in/ Lawsonia links

2. Sentry world/ Sand Valley

3. Timberstone or Sweetgrass

4. Greywalls

5. Arcadia Bluffs

6. Forest dunes/ loop

7. Loop/ fly home

For logistical purposes, unless you must have a links-style course, I would consider replacing Lawsonia with Lake Arrowhead. Driving to and from Lawsonia is a pain. For an extra 45 minutes of driving after you land, you could be at Lake Arrowhead, which is two miles away from Sand Valley and every bit as good as Lawsonia.

And, don't skip Timberstone. It's really good.

Have recently played Timberstone and Sweetgrass. I prefer really good course conditions so I would lean towards Sweetgrass. It's a links style but the course is in great shape.

Timberstone is still a great track and is cut into some woods but the greens don't run nearly as fast.

To be honest..... Skip both Timberstone and Sweetgrass and okay Bay Harbor Links/Quarry ..... You won't regret it and you can find twighlight rounds for $75. Black Lake in Onaway mich is one other suggestion as its a top 5 course in mich as is bay harbor but you can find deals around $40. Both of these courses are far superior to timber stone and Sweetgrass.

I've only played each course one time, but when my group played the "perfect foursome" a couple of summers ago we all preferred Sweetgrass over Timberstone. The conditioning was a lot better and the course wasn't nearly as crowded. However, I don't think you could go wrong with either course. If Timberstone was in my back yard I'd try to play it as often as possible.

WORST. POST. EVER.

Lawsonia is quite possibly the best public course in all of Wisconsin, Lake Arrowhead isn't even in the top 15.

OP, do not skip Lawsonia, its worth driving out of the way especially if its just an hour or so out of the way.

Just go back from playing Lawsonia and Sand Valley. Both in great shape.

How did that trip go? I have not seen a review. I would be interested in your view of the courses, the accommodation and also any travel issues you had?
