I got them at beginning of catching the ho bug here. If toward the end I would still have them. the bbs are to me what my 962s and mo14s were, home.

 

Also, as much as everyone acts like they are expensive you can get them at or under a grand. Yes expensive, but I see 100s here getting new titliest and ping sets that are the same, so in terms of value, I still feel sets like that are a no brianer and also that the world has more sets under $500 from last years that will out outplay anything new. Good and new to me is different, not something made in last 3 years. The more you realize clubs only matter as much as you are comfortable with them (again what Dunn said) the better off you will be,even if you tinker, you will do so with proper intent and expectations.

I have had a lot of clubs as well these last 5 years. I love golf and have enjoyed testing out the latest and greatest. But like Dunn said it gets to a point that it doesn't matter. I think i am finally at that point. I don't think i will ever quit tinkering but like you and old player and blade hunter, tsupo and many others on here i am going to focus on highly regarded older models. Kinda like buying a car, buy new and you get killed on depreciation, buy a classic car and they will hold there value. I like sifting thru older posts regarding highly rated irons then trying to find that set. Baby blades are next.

2011 Callaway Legacy BLack will be my vote... smaller than that and i would just play a MB if you hit the center ( and i know you do Jake..lol) if you want a smaller CB then 716 titleist CB is going to be hard to beat

Hey bladehunter, my shopping wish list included the Legacy blacks, Prgr idbl's, Callaway ProtoTypes quad dot. Affordability was a key factor, it took awhile to find the Prgrs and the Protos in my price range [250-350] Legacy's seem to be priced higher. I find it easier to pay $300 in 2 transactions vs buying one set for $600. I have not picked up my stuff from my border parcel service yet. Have you had any experience with either of these irons, compared to the Legacys?

Prgr Id bl is probably most under the radar phenomenal sets of cbs out there. It is the only set I have gone through on a HO iron spree I wish I could take back. They make mizunos feel like hitting range balls with cast clubs.....well, maybe not that, but they are soooft. Low offset, nice head size. I won't get another set because I know irons don't matter that much and everything Dunn said is on point, so I will just try more favors because YOLO, but you would be hard pressed to find a nicer set of cbs for under $300, and in reality, a blindfold no predetermined feelings Pepsi challenge with them vs the 916cbs would surprise a lot of people I would bet. in fact, I like them better at address, less offset if I recall correctly, or at least it sets up that way.

Bigmean your review on the Prgr's got me motivated to pick up my purchases from the border parcel service.Thanks. [2 month wait] Opening my shipment of Prgr idbls, and a quad dot set of Callaway Prototypes, was better than all my christmases combined. lol

 

Wow the Prgr's look even better in person. Thick heavy sole, with relief, very meaty centre cavity, and what looks like the lowest offset iv'e seen in a set of irons iv'e owned. The Prototypes are impressive as well, but the idbl's have overshadowed them in my opinion.[never thought anything could overshadow the Protos's]Had the Callaway Musclebacks. Thought my Z945 had low offset, but comparing all 3 9 irons the prgr's look to have the lowest offset. The 945's have less than the Protos.

 

I have been eyeing up the Prgr's and the Proto's for a few years, very happy to have them in my hands.

 

Even more excited to finally get to hit them.

This year I've tried S55's, Stenson Legacys, XTD Forged and CC1's!

I'm still playing my 850 Forged from a couple of seasons ago.

 

For the current market, I would still say the 900 Forged are an awesome set and in my opinion, the best in the market. I used "players" CB's for a long time and after seeing the success Henrik Stenson had during the FedEx cup a couple of years ago I moved to something a little more forgiving and don't plan on looking back. I've tested the 900's, just not enough difference to make me switch though.

Don't have a set but my goodness not sure it gets better than the Srixon Z745 or Z765 sticks. Also Adams Idea CMBs are as good as anything being released today, and can be had for really cheap.

There are lots of choices for cavity back golf clubs in the market.... the best clubs usually are over $1200+ territory. Happy choosing ^_^
