Headed to Austin this weekend

So, I'm headed up to Austin sometime Saturday to meet up with my girlfriend sunday morning. I'll be staying pretty close to 6th street. I'm looking to get in a round somewhere probably late morning/early afternoon. I have a buddy that goes up there quite a bit, and he recommended Falcon Head and Grey Rock. Spoke to another buddy that lives up there, and I think we're going to play Falcon Head. Anyone know what the conditions are like? I don't mind the price for a nice course in great shape, but I'd hate to pay that green fee and it be anything less than stellar. Thanks in advance.

Hey bigred - Falconhead was punched early last week-ish so I bet they will need another week or so to get completely back to normal. It looks like golfnow pulled the course advisory for the weekend tee times so I'm guessing they'll be close to 100%.

 

I played Grey Rock last week and they too were punched and sanded around the same time frame. If I were to choose between the two, would def go with FH - their greens are historically in better shape and usually a bit faster than those at GR.

 

Hope you and your buddy have a good time out there. Both are great tracks. I'll be hoping that all this rain is bringing those greens back quickly.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead and made us a tee time at Falconhead for Saturday. It's $89 on golfnow, but I went to the clubs website and it was $75, so I booked it there. Go figure.

Haha that's interesting.. wouldn't hurt to call and ask them what the green situation is. They're pretty good about giving you an honest assessment.

Honestly, unless they pulled huge cores, 11 days post punch (I'd imagine small 1/4" tines) will be healed to the point that it shouldn't affect playability.

It wont be as bad as it is here in Houston. There's very little humidity in Austin by comparison. I'm sure it will be hot, but it wont be a sauna.

After looking at them online, Falconhead seemed to look like the nicer course to my eyes. We shall see. Thanks for the info!

one of my favorites, for sure...and pics dont really give you the dramatic elevation changes...

Course was amazing. Some very scenic views, conditions were great. You could see that the greens were punched recently, but they were well healed and rolled true. I would definitely go back.
