Beef come home

I'll play along. Name me a few of the U.S guys you are referencing, the "lawyers son's" as you put it. I'm interested in who these guys are that will make Beef so uncomfortable. Many of the young U.S guys on Tour generally seem like pretty cool guys to be around (Rickie, Spieth, Smylie, Justin Thomas, Kisner, Wesley Bryan, James Hahn, Harold Varner III, etc).

I personally know several guys currently on tour, and they are as down to earth as any of my friends in other professions. All three of them came from humble backgrounds; 2 from the Northeast and one from California.

Conversly, I have 2 close friends in Jupiter/Palm Beach FL who's kids go to school with the children of a couple of the Euro guys who play on our Tour, and word is they aren't so friendly when the cameras aren't on and their sponsors aren't around.

Admittedly, that last part is anecdotal, but maybe you don't have as much to fret about as you think.

If you look on the "square class" of the golfers on the PGA I'm pretty sure that is way higher than that of Beef. But I did not mention that in the post you quoted. I referred to "country club class US". Is the clubs where the PGA events are played just like the pub around the corner in London? The TV referees, everything seem more polished and business-like when you watch PGA events.

Yeah, I guess that's my point; you're "pretty sure", but you really have no idea. Lots of opinions, no facts. That's fine, given this is just a friendly back and forth, but you might want to have some facts if you're going to posit a whole theory of one's prospects of professional happiness on it. Are you now changing your original point and saying Beef won't be comfortable at the venues where PGA Tour events are held?

Why does it matter which post you said it in, all of your posts in this thread have some level of unfounded opinion in them. I still want to know who these "country club class US" guys are that make you so nervous.

He may think Beef will have to deal with these guys ; )

Beef is a happy man. Obviously. The PGA Tour is the most elite tour in the world. NOT THE EUROPEAN TOUR. Any true competitor would be ecstatic about that. Ones upbringing has nothing to do with that. Who cares if he is a bus drivers son, that doesn't effect his experience and only makes him more relatable. Again, I can't stand that view, that he isn't "posh enough". I don't know a single person who has ever used the word posh. Americans love people with humble beginnings, that's he American dream, from bus drivers son to PGA Tour member. f*** yeah beef. He'll be buying a house in Florida before we know it.

Goodness, what a thread. I have zero doubt that Mr. Johnson will be just fine living and playing the United States.

I believe the OP has read to many opinion pieces about Americans written from an acute and slanted point of view. There is a lot of golf played in the U.S. up and down the different classes. The next great PGA Tour star could come from anywhere.

I appreciate how proud the OP is of being a leftist social democrat but would do well to follow their own party principles and not be so quick to paint good folks in to a corner.

Have a great day in Sweden, I'll even have a pris of Ettan.

You should come down to LaGrange Georgia and see if you feel the same way when you get here. To think all of the U.S. Is some kind of hot bed for rich snobby upper class types is hilarious man! Most of us are working class Joe's who love a guy like beef. I'm a big fan of his! You really need to take a long hard look at your views...They are appalling.

Have to disagree with OP on this thread ... money on the Euro tour is much smaller than the PGA tour. If you're good enough and want to give it a shot, take your chance while the iron is hot. Maybe he'll speak with Colsearts first for some advice on what to avoid. Colsearts came over to chase the bigger purses and ended up not enjoying the US tour, and is much happier back home on the Euro Tour.

So let me see if I understand this....took a lot of deciphering between your snarky comments about the US and its people but....

Beef will not be happy over here because the golfers over here have an elitist attitude and drive fancy cars to their fancy elitist country clubs and this goes against his personality and how he was raised??

You do realize he has played with a lot of these guys before in various tournaments throughout the world? If he didnt think he would fit in do you think he would want to come over? Or does he not care about fitting in and figures the money he could make here is worth putting up with these people?

Ive seen a ton of support from a bunch of players congratulating him and rooting him on to get his card. The people in America are going to love him. Let him keep making birdies, flashing that big grin, and keep drinking beer and he will be one of the most popular players on tour.

The son of a bus driver and a school kitchen lady will NOT love it over there, among all lawyer and surgeon sons. OK, guys like Parnevik and Poulter, posh guys from starters, they will like the porsche-on-parking-lot mentality, I suppose they don't hang around the clubs where Big John plays in bare feet, jeans and no shirt. Even heard the well manicured ladies at golf channel wanting to have him over for "morning drive" or something. Can't see a bus driver's son being comfortable with that.

Posh Europe is bad enough. But the semi-social-democrat middle class of europe is far left of the US one, and more homely to guys like him and me. We dont have Trumps for president candidates over here. Just kings.

LOL. Stereotype much? The funny thing is I am not sure if you are insulting the USA, Europe or Beef? Inadvertently I suppose all 3.

Believe it or not most people over here are pretty nice people. No matter what you read on the Internet.

Many of my best friends are Americans... seriously, of course I know that. Our family has US friends, my missus and my kids went over for a summer to live with a friend's family outside San Francisco. I have relatives over there, and have worked with endless colleagues being employed for decades in a multinational company whith a lot of business in US.

Believe it or not, most people all over the place are pretty nice people. But the culture in certain parts of the world is not easy for individuals of other parts(we are seeing it big time now with people from middle east coming into eg Central Scandinavia) and what I used as a weapon here, you gotta take what you have, is that I have doubts about a English, German or Central Scandinavia under class guy feeling comfortable in Country Club Class US.

much of the golf played in the us very much non-country club golf. its why john daly is so popular. its why pga events are full of baba booeys and mashed potatoes. outside of major cities there are tons of people and lots of golf courses that are full of common dudes that just have fun. its why beef will be hugely popular here too. a ton of us golfers are going to identify much more with him than some stiff upper lip pro. now, of course, the us is big country and there are lots of social circles you can travel in. i think the trouble in coming to a new country is that you probably settle in with a certain crowd you find fron work if you dont know people outside that. if you're a golfer, that means a pga tour type crowd. its hard to move to a new place and have the diversity of friends you made growing up, thats true generally. he'll come over here and lead a wealthy golfer lifestyle. but the same thing would be true if a us golfer decided to play the european tour, if he was in england, hed probably live in a nice suburb of london and only see very posh view of england, even if his lifestyle back in the states was the opposite.

i can understand eanting beef back, hes a fun guy. but make no mistake, his attitude is going to fit in perfectly in america, usa fans will love him because for so many he'll seem like one of them. hes gonna be given a lot to of reasons to play a lot over here, some euros have been heckled in the past, monty got no love, not saying hes a bad guy, but that sort of uptight attitude just doesnt play with a large past of us golf audience. but beef will be one of their own.

Golf needs more Beef, wherever he plays. I'd love to see him in Europe, but let's face it, many of us follow the money.

BAHAHAHA How the F did you expect this thread to go? You come on an american based site and basically say that one of the most popular golfers in the world should avoid playing in the worlds most popular tour because you stereotyped the american golfing class as being snobs and coming from money.

Somehow you manage to get into a War debate. If it wasn't for American troops... you'd probably be speaking German or Japanese.

Don't get me wrong... I know there is a certain arrogance to SOME americans. (i'm Canadian) I cant tell you how many times I've been asked on vacation about living in the cold all the time or the last time I saw a beaver or a moose. But that can be said about people from any country. For example what exactly you did by your original post.
