Hawk Hollow/Eagle Eye Trip

I've started to think about locations for my trip next summer to Michigan and have zero'd in on Hawk Hollow/Eagle Eye as one main stay & play option for our weekend. It looks like they pair their courses with the following courses. I was wondering if anyone has some advice when it comes to picking a third course.

 

Timber Ridge Golf Club

College Fields

The Emerald Golf Course

The Grande

The Majestic

Forest Akers Golf Course

 

On the way back to Chicago we'll likely play Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor. I've been trying to make a day trip there but it just hasn't been in the cards for me this summer.

Played EE/HH in one day a few summers ago. Great little tandem to play.

 

We played the following courses on our little trip:

 

Eagle Crest

Shepherd's Hollow

Forest Akers

HH/EE

 

Forest Akers was fun but nothing too memorable about it. Honestly it was a little underwhelming for a college course. Eagle Crest was a nice challenge.

Timber Ridge is only a few minutes from HH/EE. Tight course with lots of elevation. Grande and Majestic are so much better than anything on that list.

Don't read much about Eagle Eye on this board but it seems to get great reviews. I was also thinking about taking a trip there next summer as we used to go to Yarrow every summer and loved playing there but now that it closed we stayed in Ohio this year and played Longaberger (Virtues). Thinking of heading back up to Michigan next year and playing a stay and play with two rounds at Eagle Eye and one at Hawk Hollow. Let us know how you enjoy it.

Forest Akers West is a really solid course... but to a previous commenters point, there isnt much memorable about it... as an MSU alum i love playing it, but def biased

 

Grande and Majestic are both over 50 mins from HH/EE area but very high quality golf... if you are willing to do that drive i would pick one of those

 

Timber Ridge if you want all 3 tracks close

Agreed. I have played all thise courses listed besides the majestic. Forest acres feels conjested and you can see roads on alot of holes. The grande is a little further but is a real scenic course with "northern michigan feel". College fields is just so so. The emerald is a decent track but not comparable to the grande. Timber Ridge would be my choice if wanting close to eagle eye hawk hallow.

There is a really fun putt putt course at the EE/HH site too that you should make some time to play

Thanks for the input every! It looks like The Grande would be the winner if we chose to make this our trip. I love the idea of late afternoon drunk gambling on the putting course. We played one a few summers ago at Buck's Run and it was a blast. I think people lost more money on the putting course than they did on the actual golf course.

 

I'm also looking at the Indianapolis area so I'm going to start a similar thread with choices for that area.

Indy has a ton of great courses. Birckyard, The Fort, Prairie View and Purgatory are all top notch. Little north of the city are Rock Hollow, Trophy Club and Kampen .

Kampen is only about 40 min north of the city and, IMO, it's a must. Tough tough course. I've heard good things about the Ackerman course but haven't played it since the redesign; it might be worth planning a 36 hole day at that site.

If you can swing it, St. Ives and Tullymore are not that far from there. Those are two great courses.

I liked the Ackerman Allen course better than Kampen when we played it last month. I played EE/HH and they are fun, also played Forest Akers West, average course. I played The Majestic and it was OK with a few cool holes.

 

I have heard great things about The Grande, just have not been back up to Michigan to play since 2010. (I have played 79 diff courses in Michigan).
