Brandel would be a lot better if he could actually take differing viewpoints to heart. His insight can be good, but if someone doesn't agree, he seems to fly off the handle immediately and resort to quoting stats that he probably looked at 2 hours before the show.

I will take David's word on this - who played with Tiger for crying out loud on a RC team - over Chamblee's in regards to leadership.

You can't blame the last x number of Ryder Cups on Tiger and Phil and then just call it a day.

David, in my eyes, was simply saying that all players have responsibility and have to play well, which I think is true.

Hope this makes sense to people but Brandel reminds me of what Jason Whitlock calls Cyber Humans. Doesn't understand we live in a reality and takes everything from numbers or stats on the internet. Seems to me that people like Brandel just can't understand that someone just might, maybe, just once be right. Nope only Brandel can ever be right, not a good way to go through life.

I have always tried to like BC, but that exchange with Duval was pretty bad. Love Duval as a player and a person, and IMO he was justified to get pissed as Chamblee would not even consider his first hand opinion.

The other thing that I wonder about Chamblee is if someone started telling him how live television works and how to be on a show like he is, if he'd play the "I am on a show every day, I know what I'm talking about" card.

I think that he would, and it's natural to do so.

Why he thought he was going to make a blanket statement about Tiger's leadership when Duval has played with the man in Ryder Cups, I don't know.

I guarantee you when Duval was playing, he wasn't thinking "I missed that putt because Tiger and Phil aren't motivating me properly".

so much involved. As a long time captain of a high level 4 team 12per team man Ryder cup like event , the entire team needs to have a chance to win and the captain needs to put his players in a position to win . You need to match up games, you have to match up holes, you have to match up players that have a history of playing well with other players and have a history of playing well against other players. so much strategy involved and to me the US captains have made many mistakes. . The euro's arent better players necessary they have better strategy and better captains, loose the US ego and you may win. Ride the horses not the world ranking .

That was priceless, and hilarious! Brandel "poof" Chamblee is just a frustrated talentless ex tour player. Gotta take DD over him every day of the week, and I am not even a fan of DD.

Nobilo was priceless as well. He is just sitting there thinking "finally someone else is calling this windbag out."

Nothing worse than someone who doubles down on stupidity because his ego won't let him be wrong...

The other thing that kind of hurts BC's argument is Rory. BC claims that the top players have to be the leaders, which everyone knows isn't always the case. In any sport, there can be guys in the locker room who are leaders but not the best player on the team.

Rory has been the best player on the Euro squad for years, but he showed up late for a tee time, and I don't think he's a rah-rah type of guy to boot. I'm sure the team rode the momentum of guys like Poulter and McDowell as much as anyone.

Yes, they like seeing the big dog Rory on the leaderboard winning his matches, but there have been many guys with leadership roles on the Euro team.

It goes deeper than that, and Brandel has a point.

Have you ever wondered how the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers were able to beat a much more talented (on paper) New York Met team in the NLCS, and follow that by dispatching the heavily favored Oakland A's in the World Series?

It's the intangibles, buddy. It's about vibes and attitudes. Look what Paul Azinger and Company were able to do in the 2008 Ryder Cup. That team was as loose as we have seen an American team in a long time. Those dudes were having fun. Remember Boo Weekley? Come on!

As the two best players on the planet (in their primes) Tiger and Phil were most definitely the "supposed" leaders of their Ryder Cup teams. That's just the way it works. Teams always look to their superstars for the vibe. The superstars set the tone in the media and in the clubhouse. And their vibe, whatever it may be, is felt by their teammates, and their teammates' play can not help but be influenced to a certain extent. Chamblee, on this particular subject, has made a very strong point.

I don't hate Brandel as much as most, but damn does he not know when to swallow his pride and shut up.

So you're betting on Europe?

What kind of vibe did Phil set by setting the table for an excuse for poor play based on the set-up at Eastlake?

DJ, best player on the team, what vibe does he set? Uhh, Ummm.

Rickie? "Look good out there, guys".

If those are the superstars I don't see much consistency of 'vibe'.

Spieth and Reed let their playing do the talking last time. That is vibe you feed off of.

Did David ruffle Chamblee's perfect old man hair? He looks disheveled.

I thought it was an awesome exchange between BC and DD with the nod going to Duval.

But man gotta hand it to the "old man", he's doing something right or has deep pockets or something!

Hooks up with Bailey Mosier :swoon:

Watching another replay, and it's another Chamblee win. Duval's only claim was he was there, so Chamblee is wrong. I get what Duval is saying, but he sticks up for the team players, and says it's on them when they lose, not the leadership....which is a backhanded compliment to the leadership that they didn't screw it up, the players did...I don't know? He never flat out says that Tiger and Phil were good leaders. So....Chamblee is right. They were poor leaders. The only leaders of their stature to consistently lose RCs.

Chamblee is right...Tiger and Phil aren't great leaders. Personally, they don't relate as leaders. Tiger wants to be one of the guys, which may or may not work, and Phil is a total corporation. I've said this before and people have disagreed with me. But just being around him at tournaments, I get the vibe from him that he's worth 100 million bucks, and that's that. The alligator shoes and belt are impressive though. It would be one thing if Phil and Tiger balled out, but they suck at the Ryder Cup. So they are bad leaders and they blow matches. That's why the USA is absolutely horrid at this event. It's not difficult to figure out.

Chamblee says it all.

I blame it on Nobilo. That's why they cast 3, bro. Break it up. I love DD and hate Chamblee but they both looked like tw*t$ after that little spat.

Maybe Nobilo just wanted to see how far down the Chamblee hole was gonna go. I just don't think he knew exactly where to jump in, though he eventually did. However, DD's line about never being wrong...I just laughed out loud. Instant classic!

All of this hand-wringing and excuse making for the US team's poor performance is mostly the result of the fact that Team USA is somehow always expected to win, odds be damned, that the country is basically engendered to the Cup, which is an entitlement inherited from years of early dominance, and a few other less savory tendencies of American hubris.

The US has been regularly and simply outplayed for the majority of the last 30 years of this event. It's not as if team USA losing is an anomaly.

"How could this be? How should we fix this? Something, ANYTHING, other than lousy play or just plain being bettered can't sufficiently explain this!"

Won't be a popular opinion stateside, but that's usually a good thing.
