Flame suit on.......

I love my 03 Forged Nike Blade 2 iron......God I love that thing.... X100 and all....

But, reality also is a tough pill to swallow.... kinda like how the purist love their manual transmissions, but tip-tronic, dual clutch systems are now faster and more efficient....

Any ways, 2 irons are a chest thumping, maniac clubs that makes any person feel, Manly and that Tigeresque... feeling.....

But reality.... tech has moved along so well that now there are much more greater options to use other than your standard 2 iron.

So..... Here is my point....

1) You want an iron off a tee box, for lets say humans that hit it 220-230 safely.....

2) You want a boring low flight? Tiger stinger?

So thoughts to consider

1) Driving Irons are great..... but how often do you really use it? It takes up a space of the 14 clubs...do you really really really need it?

2) With Hybrid designs and so many shaft options now, you could get a much much much more forgiving 2iron(ish) club with similar launch characteristics.....

3) Do you have a 3 irons that you could beef up a little, As I will say this, I have a 2-PW Nike Blades vs 3-PW AP2, my 3 iron AP2 while having a 1 degree difference at most, launches higher and much much more forgiving than the 2 iron.......So a simple 3 iron from many current model clubs, AP2, AP1, TM RS1 or RS2, they are slightly beefier with strong lofts yet fit nicer as a 3 iron/old 2 iron so you don have a bulky hybrid, driving iron in your bag that is still usable off the deck for longer approach shots.

Other than that.... All above suggestions are great, TM UDI, T-MB are all great.... I just giving you another out look of options....

I mean if tiger got away from using his old 2 iron to now use the Older VR-S Forged 3iron bent 2 iron for more forgiveness....no point in making the game any harder than it is!

Time to step it up :stop:

I always play great when the safety net of a 2 iron is in the bag. I've tried several utilities and driving irons to take its spot (apex ut was the only one that came close) but they either weren't versatile enough or the sole was too big causing it to do the exact opposite of what I want..keep the ball low and hot.

If you can get your hands on one the Nike Pro Combo OS 2 iron is a very confidence inspiring club that is easy to hit.

Currently just purchased a Titleist CB 716 2 Iron and it's very easy to hit for its size and incredibly workable, so if you're looking to buy brand new (and don't want a utility iron) then the CB is a great option with all that tungsten in there.

Also I Always use a Dynamic Gold SL X100 in my 2 iron, I tend to prefer something just a tad lighter but never can get used to graphite (and it's not for a lack of trying I can tell you that)

I always end my warm up routine with hitting a few 2 iron shots. Good indication of what my iron game is like that day. Besides, I often use it off the tee on the first hole which is a short-ish 300 meter par 4 with OB on the right and waist-high wispy rough (where you might stumble upon a ball... just not necessarily your own) on the left.

2zzukxu.jpg

Mizuno MP-33 2 iron is still in the bag simply because I haven't found a 5 wood that can outperform it. Bent 1 degree strong (sits at 18 degrees) to blend in with my 37's.

I'm intimidated just by looking at that picture.

as a long time ( always) 2 iron player i can say ive owned and or hit them all.... I think the titleist Tmb is a good choice BUT.... I actually prefer my 680 2 iron shafted with Graphite... why you ask ? well.. the heavier head of the 680 just feels good with the heavy graphite ( which is lighter compared to my irons) ...and I do not find it to be any less forgiving than the Tmb... the Tmb is not a very forgiving head... you have to flush hit it or it looses alot and feels very harsh to me.... Now if the Tmb is to be used i would either ad a good bit of hotmelt or lead tape with graphite..other wise it just feels too light... I also find the Tmb to fly higher which kind of defeats the 2 iron purpose for me.. I want low slinging bullets that roll for ever... this way my misses arent really penalized... with the high flying tmb a miss can fly into trouble .. just food for thought

I'm starting to like the idea of throwing a graphite shaft or at least a lighter shaft in the 2 iron. The x100 is super heavy in the long 2i I have right now. Which is fine, but if you hit a little chunky out of the box it can feel like it might snap your wrists.

I hit my 690 about 300 yds, so it's a very useful club for me to have in the bag. It gets more and more use when holes are just too tight to be swinging a driver freely.

I say post pore pics if you got them. Really good looking 2i here and I'm glad to see so many using them. The nike ones posted are just sexy!

It's pretty good. I don't know that I will ever take it out of the bag. It sails forever and is straight. My main focus. I hit a lot of wayward tee shots so when I am struggling or have a tight window from the tee, I grab this club no questions asked and it gets the job done.

Holy just !@#$ my pants

Gorgeous looking 2 iron! I will say from my experience from transitioning from my rescue/hybrid to a 2 iron is I feel a lot more comfortable with the distance control. Too often I'd juice that rescue over greens.

While I agree, the rescue has a bit more "hot faced" than an iron but that is the beauty of the rescue so many options, with a 2 iron they are so limited,

Secondly, you can choose a hybrid for a specified loft for a specified distance and match shafts, many hybrids have the adjustable hozzels, compared to an older 2 iron.

my TM R11s Rescue is a 3 hybrid, that goes way farther than than my 2 iron, by about 20 yards, and flies much higher, But I also have a 4 hybrid, with a much lower flighted shaft, that flies very similar to my 2 iron and 10X more forgiving and the head is the same size as the ball compared to the 2 iron that the head is half the size of the ball =)

Choice and options vs beating your chest, that just my humble realization.

I recently gamed a Titleist 690 MB 2i w/ x100 and since then I haven't looked back. I primarily use this out of the box on short par 4's or a tight par 5. I have been looking at buying a more updated one. I see the T-MB is pretty popular and is something I'm leaving towards.

What is your experience with 2 irons and any 2i I should consider?

... I prefer an iron like hybrid to a wood like hybrid as it can get very windy in the Chicago area. Played the UDi, U45, FG Tour and CB Pro Tungsten and all had plus and minus attributes. The Cobra King Utility does not. Adjustable from 18*-21* with a Rogue Black shaft it has become my go to club. Nice mid high trajectory set at 19.5* but back in my stance a little and it can be fighted lower. On really windy days I have dialed it down to 18*. Even great from light rough and can be played from deep rough, although without the same success as a wood like hybrid.

I've gamed Mizuno mp-14 2-pw for 16 years and loved the 2 iron. Just purchased a set of MP-15 3-PW and thought I'd add an extra wedge but the set up never felt right. On holes where I'd use a 2 iron I felt limited by the 3 iron (distance). I recently purchased a MP-H5 2 iron with the shaft as my MP-15 and I could not be happier. The MP-H5 just bores through the air. Ive used it only one round so far and have not missed the fairway and out drove others with metal woods. It sounds great and soft when struck well.

Its all preference, but I'd recommend trying it out. Its also cheaper than other 2 irons as Mizuno considers it a single iron like a set. About $150-160.

2nd the cut muscle fli hi! Steelfiber shaft 110x makes it less one sided and more utility. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I'm hitting my 3 wood the best I've ever hit it so it's easing its way out of the bag at the moment. Still a blast.

I adore my T-MB with hzrdus black hybrid shaft in it. Off the tee or from the fairway. Very deep and it's a Pin seeker! I'd give you a review form the rough, but I'm never in it when teeing off with it! Lol. Jk

This is the build Im doing right now! I have been contacted for both UDI 2 and TMB 2 and getting pictures tonight. Will get one of them fitted for a hzrdus 6.5 graphite shaft. As I think it'll take the 2 iron to a next level having the stiffness but lighter shaft compared to the x100 steel shaft.

I've been leaning towards the T-MB as of today and might pull the trigger on that.

This. If you stop at a two iron, you might as well be bagging your gran's five wood.
