Interesting that you can clearly see who benefited from good pairings and was punished by bad pairings. Sergio's paring with Kaymer hurt his overall percentage. His singles match with Phil hurt both of them. Tough to take a half-point when you shoot 63. On the flip side of that, Spieth benefited greatly from being paired with Reed four times. Otherwise, he probably only gets 1 point instead of 2.5.

Thomas Pieters was absolutely unconscious! Had he not been paired with a noticeably inept Westwood on Friday, he could have easily been 5-0.

Although I was hopeful that Jordan Spieth would muster his "A" game for the week, I wasn't the least surprised at his play. My biggest disappointment was Dustin Johnson. Considering the way all of the commentators and golf pundits have been hanging off his jock strap, (reminded me of Tiger's glory days), I fully expected him to be a beast for the American team. No knock against Chris Wood, (#32 OGWR), but to struggle to put him away in singles and only squeak out a point when Wood bogeyed the 18th was quite a letdown.

You should go look at the hole by hole scores. DJ played good and steady. He more than did his job. In the first four-ball, he made 5 of the 6 birdies (Kuch contributed 1). In the second fourball, he made 5 again and Koepka contributed another 4, and they were about -7 - but Pieters & Rory were real hot, especially Pieters at the end. In his singles match, he shot 67. Wood was no slouch and shot 68. Rickie beat Rose but Rose did not do much. Koepka drummed Willet as Willet did not do much either. Bottom line - he faced the hot team and played well. They all played better which is what they needed to do to win.

Agree, you need to look at how they actually played, not the points earned.

For example Sergio was saddled with Kaymer twice. Tough to play 2v1. But he played pretty damn well all three days.

As mentioned above, Pieters might have been 5-0 if he had drawn Phil/Rickie Friday morning instead of DJ (and been paired with anyone other that westwood).

Dustin did well, I agree. My commentary was mainly criticizing the commentators and pundits that have basically crowned him the second coming of the Messiah. The same way they did Jason day. The same way they did Jordan Spieth etc., etc. The way they have been gushing over him would make one think he could beat the Europeans single-handedly.

I agree that Chris Wood was unfairly treated as an inept rookie by Darren Clarke. That dude has showed that he has game and got his big win this year at the BMW. I honestly felt bad for him, Sullivan, and FItzpatrick. They had to have felt like they were only picked because spots needed to be filled. If I were one of them and say Kaymer out there hacking it up all week I would have been little pissed...

Even if Westwood hadn't played like a 10 handicapper I don't think it would have made a difference. USA were on a mission and would have still won even without a bunch of underperforming English players and a sprinkle of inept captaincy from Clarke. USA wanted it more, and it showed.

Possibly, but if Westwood makes those two 3-footers on Saturday, the US is up only 1 point going into Sunday instead of 3 points.

Amazing to see the leading point scorer belong to the Euros considering the end result.

Pieters was unconscious (after being a little shaken in his first match). I wonder what Rory would have done without him.

Danny and Lee ouch!

Danny didn't do too bad considering he was paired in the first set of fourballs with Kaymer (who did not contribute anything until the 10th hole), and in the second set of fourballs with Westwood.

To get zero out of those matches was a decent result in the circumstances :)
