Kevin Na - On track to be one of the best Journeymen ever?

Recommended Posts

Another top 10 for Kevin Na. Better the 50% in the top 25 each of the last three years and better than 25% in the top 10 over the same period. Approaching $23 Million in Career earnings at age 33. He appears to be getting better. That on top of his sub - two hour round at the Tour Championship is the icing on the cake. I don't see a reason he cannot keep this up for a few more years.

Met him a few years back at the John Deere. This was after he got married and got his balks straightened out. Super nice guy! Looks you in the eye and talks to you as an equal and never felt rushed. I'd love to see him lift a few trophies in the next few years. He really has all the potential to be grouped in with guys like Billy Haas, Kevin Streelman, Charley Hoffman, Boo Weekley, Graham DeLaet, and maybe a Hunter Mahan.

Just sucks that he had those swing issues in what might have been his prime.

Graham DeLETDOWN hasn't done anything to warrant being grouped with those guys.

This year at the Masters I followed Na for a couple of holes, at the 2nd he hit the driver from the deck to like 10ft and he walked out with an eagle.Unfortunately it was not televised since they were the first pairing out there. It was probably the best shot I saw all week. As somebody said before, I would take Na's career any day of the week!

I'd rather have his career Thu-Sun, Mon-Wed wouldn't get me paid.... ;)

Yup, Kevin is very nice. At the Memorial Tournament I got a picture with him and had an 8x10 of it made for him to sign the next time I saw him. I handed it to him at the BMW Championship in September and he looks at it and goes, "Now there's a pic of two good lookin' guys".

I was on the green watching him too and that was definitely the best shot all day. I ended up following him until the back nine after that

Jeff Overton is more of a spare journeyman than Kevin Na

Exactly!!

I don't look at Na as a "journeyman" at all.

My Good Friend, and God Bless him cuz I love him like a Brother, is what I would consider a journeyman-

He's 47yo, got his 1st Tour card in 1992, along with his first and ONLY Tour Victory a few later and he has had his Tour card 17 of the last 24 years, with his dream season coming in a season that he didn't have his card but Played his A** off on the exemptions that he got for a runner-up, 2 other Top-10's, a Top-20 and a Top-25 and he made it to the semis of the Fed Ex Tourneys, finishing the year at either #67 or 68, I forget. He made $1.8+ mill for the year and got his card the next year. He didn't do much and was back on the Web.com where he notched a victory and finished high enough to get his card back though again, he did not have a great year and lost it. He has $4.8 mill something in career earnings.

He's currently ranked 600 something in the world.

I mean no disrespect here because like I said, he's the friggin best, however I would consider him to be a journeyman.

Kevin Na???

Nahhhhhhh :)

Madison got to Play with him down in Fla and said He's a super guy.

Stay well my Friends :)

All the Best,

RP

Calling Na a journeyman is somewhat arbitrary. The gauge I used was a single victory in his career, but keeping his card year in and year out. By that criteria he is one of the best ever "journeymen". If he wins a few in the coming years, he will not fit in that "journeyman" category anymore.

BTW, I am a fan.

LMAO, no kiddin Bro, hahaha

Nothing beats the guy last year who started that "Journeyman" thread and his nominee was Rory Sabbs, LMAO

My Boi is 27th all-time, $29,493,416 with 6 Victories, LMAO

The Man has had a hell of a journey, lol

I told him of the thread when we spoke and he got a good chuckle and was just glad that it wasn't for "most disliked," lmao. He actually is funny as hell with a dry sense of humor. He's just a tad obsessive, lmao.

Plus, as has been noted, Kevin Na is the 36th greatest golfer on the face of this earth.

I don't consider that the ranking of a journeyman, lmao

Just my .03 worth

As has also been noted, it's subjective and arbitrary.

All in good fun :)

I hope that all's well Bro :)

My Best,

Richard

Calling Na a journeyman is somewhat naive. The gauge I used WAS a single victory in his career, AND keeping his card year in and year out. By that criteria he is one of the best "players in the world". If he wins a few in the the coming years, he will fit in that made "beyond a hell of a lotta career money" category.

BTW, a "real" journeyman doesn't have many PGA Tour starts to his name, a balky putter, car with too many miles and balding front tires, and bank account balance that's always aprroaching the threshold of undesirable.

When it comes to professional golf, a journeyman should be defined as someone who is unable to make it on the big stage and scrapes around on the lesser tours to make ends meet.

For keeping his PGA Tour card during the vast majority of his career to the tune of $22 million+ with a win, Na really isn't a journeyman.

Oddly enough, this topic has been discussed in detail on this very forum. http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/409783-definition-of-a-journeyman-pro/

I really like Kevin Na. He's one of my favorites on tour. He had issues. Took the criticism in stride. Worked hard on it. Over came it. He's very humble. Just an all around great guy.

Agreed 100%. Overcame something that would've driven a lot of other people off tour, was never once surly or snappy about it, and instead gave very honest, thoughtful answers whenever someone asked him a question.

Hope he picks up a few more W's going forward.

Nice link Pro!

I like Firstbatch's post via Wiki's definition....

"A journeyman is a trader or crafter who has completed an apprenticeship. A journeyman was a craftsman who had fully learned his trade and earned money but was not yet a master. To become a master, a journeyman had to submit a master work piece to a guild for judgment. If the work were deemed worthy, the journeyman would be admitted to the guild as a master."

Don't ask me how this ties into Professional golf however I just liked the definition, lol

Stay well My Friends,

RP
