Took my 91-92 apex to the range today, second time I've hit them . Reall impressed with the feel of the "last" Fort Worth forging

Second time hitting since November , broke my right hand

Our once every 10 year snow is gone and looking forward to playing this set

 

91-92 Apex....Gorgeous clubs!

However, not a "Fort Worth" forging.

They would have been forged by Cornell in Chicago, or Hoffman in Memphis, simply because Hogan never had a forging house in Fort Worth.

Irons were designed, ground, assembled, and finished in Fort Worth, but all forging was done elsewhere. From the 98 Apex onwards, forging was done by Endo, Japan.

Thanks to a gentleman in Canada, something showed up recently....

 

LH Slazenger Ben Hogan 1+ Bounce Sole irons 3 - PW

 

 

 

No, that is not a misprint. This is one of the rare Slazenger Ben Hogan models which says Pitching Wedge, not Equalizer.

 

Original Apex 3 shafts, with Original Green Spiral grips.

 

 

 

Have seen more LH Slazenger Ben Hogan club models in the last two years than in the last 25 years.

 

Slazenger of England made LH Stainless Steel Ben Hogan Precision model irons, and LH Persimmon woods.

 

Glad we hadn't finished that Chapter...

Wondering about this Hogan 1 wood I've got. On the sole plate, in the center, is a red circle with Hogan's profile inside and under that the date, 1953. Red Apex shaft band. Serial # K82054.

 

Any idea what year or make?

Sounds like a 1978 Commemorative. Great driver. Assuming yours is all original you have an Apex 5 shaft installed which is x stiff. If you're lucky you also have a neumann leather wrap grip.

Who on here is the go-to for getting a set of Hogan irons? I am looking and see that the BST Classic clubs forum is a bit slow compared to here. Clist is more than slow in my area for them as well.

+1^ to Fellaheen51 as I just picked up a set of '73 Apex with Apex shafts and a set of Apex II heads from Tim (Teevons) he was a great help to me and very reasonable on price!

Not the oldest or most classic set, but I just picked up these Edge GCD midsize irons 3-pw with Apex 3 graphite shafts from the local goodwill.

 

Hit them at the range tonight and came away impressed. Forgiving and very nice looking behind the ball. Low offset, thinner topline, and a nice high toe.

 

I must say these feel incredibly soft, even though they're not the forged version. The graphite shafts probably help in that regard.

 

Does anyone know anything more about this model? Cursory research tells me they are circa 1995.

Just picked up these beautiful Hogan wedges 54* & 58* . They are in excellent condition and look barely used.

Also picked up a Ben Hogan Apex 3W

Very nice pickup HH. The Hogan wedges look to be in sterling shape. Found a 56/10 just like your's a week ago. Nice shape save for two ugly rock gouges on the leading edge. Being forged, performed some cold smithing (beat on it with a ball peen hammer) to smooth them out. it may or may not ever end up in the bag, but for $2, what the heck.

 

There's been a pair of Hogan persimmons, (3W and 5W, Apex 4, '92's by the serial #) along with a PB Citation (horseshoe sole) D at the local thrift for over a week. $3.99 each, nice shape other than the grips are shot. Resisted acquiring them because I simply do not need anymore persimmons in inventory. If the Hogans had the D, may feel differently about it. Trying to have some self restraint this year.

Yesterday I walked into a Barber shop I've been eyeing for a few weeks now. It near my son's school. Its an old school Barber shop with 3 chairs. I liked it the second I walked in. A couple of large screen TVs I saw right away and the smell of fresh brew Coffee... An older Gentleman at the far end of the shop says "Can I help you". I walk over and on his wall I notice he has hung classic clubs. I set of early 80s Walter Hagen irons , I think they were console model. At first I thought they might be Crenshaw grind, but they were not. Above it a Hogan 3 wood from the early 80s. Above his mirror the famous Hogan pic from Marion. He thought his 3 wood hung was from the early 50s, but I told him its definitely not... To make a long story short, we had a great conversation about collecting and he tells me one of his friends used to be a big Hogan Rep in the 50s and 60s and this guy gave him a Hogan driver that was one of Ben's. This rep was in the shop at Shady oaks and noticed a few drivers on the wall and was inspecting them. Hogan walks in and says "Hey, those are mine". The 2 of them played together that day and later Ben gave him one of those. Its now in a storage locker here locally. I'm gonna have to go see it. My new friend offered to get it some time and show me.... :)

I'm also going to show him my 1949 Mac Hogan which Dave Wood thought looks like on of Ben's personal clubs. Gonna have to set up a time to see the club in the locker too...

I just picked up a backup set of '99 Apex irons. I am going to have the chrome stripped and possibly have the grooves updated to USGA conforming square.

 

I will have a set of '88 Redlines 3-E available (rechromed, reshafted with X-100, Green Victory chord ... very nice irons). Anyone interested PM me.
