In an attempt for Scatch and pinhigh to stop throwing shade at me. Giving my instagram handle to show videos was not my attempt at proof, i obviously dont take lots of videos of myself to post on social media but my fiance likes snapchat and planet fitness, which i hate. Also, I'm well aware what is done on a smith machine doesn't count. they were just the videos i had from the gym i was at at the time. The ONLY part I'd have trouble with, at this point in time, is pulling 495 twice. i have done it but that was last winter at 205-208 bw after bulking for 3 months, height is 6'1". I am at 190 currently and haven't lifted for strength gains since March.

The point of this topic was to find the guys on here that can. i'm 6'1" 190 and currently at this point in time can do 3 of them no problem and have done the deadlift portion last winter. I'm quite small in stature compared to ThunderBuzzworth and he can do it. i'm sure there are big guys on here than can too.

I am definitely not throwing shade..... I have mad respect for anyone that puts time in on their body and enjoys lifting as much as I do. If you say you can do it than I believe you, but I stand by post that until someone does actually do it than its just all talk. If someone does do it with legit form than I will be the first to congratulate them. Congrats on the engagement and best of luck at your show.

So a topic, not to be named, got off tracked with a $5k bet that 2 people on this forum could not fly it 300+ consistently, bench press 315, squat 405 and deadlift 495 for reps.

Unfortunately the member who made the bet says trackman is not accurate and can't be use for proof of being able to fly it 300 consistently. His requirements, once a couple members claimed they could do this, are as follows...

Average of 6 times in a round of competition, with a respected member of this forum, using course obstacles such as trees or cart paths to estimate actual carry distance. He gave 2 weeks deadline, in December and 3 weeks into winter here in the states.

Any members who can accomplish this "impossible" feat? Oh and you can't be on PEDs or "fat as crap"(whatever that means)

Ah Rosco I'm disappointed. In the original thread you were talking like this was in your wheelhouse, but now it looks like you're looking for someone else to prove your point for you. With TBuzz out with a medical issue, I'm not sure if we have another guy who can pull this off.

I know Al Caslow used to be a member on the forum, and his powerlifting numbers are public record (and very impressive). I think he was a higher handicap though so the 300 carry would be a big question mark.

Here's an older thread that has a few guys with the lifting numbers covered....

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1117971-powerlifting-scratch-golf/

300 carry while doing all of the above takes a pretty special kind of athlete. I'd be looking for (current) national level long drive guys, but I don't think we have any who really frequent the boards too often. Regardless, I'd love to see video evidence from anyone!

And since you started a whole new thread, why don't we just make the 300 carry verified by trackman? Everyone (besides MilesGiles) knows it's the most accurate way to measure this sort of thing.....and it's not like MG is actually going to fork over $5k anyway, so in the interest of actually seeing if we have members who could do this, can I offer that as a suggestion? Otherwise we're just continuing the troll job.

Sounds good to me. Good suggestion. I'll get videos of my workouts the next few days to see where I stand. I have a full trackman fitting for my birthday next Friday the 16th.

It's in my wheelhouse as I've done the deadlift portion within the last year. When I first chimed into the thread it was about flying it 300, benching 300 and squatting 400. All of which I can do currently no problem. Then thunder threw in the deadlift for 5 plates, then reps, which I stated at one point that pulling 495 for 2 is the only one that could give me trouble right now. At that point I invested so I was planning on giving it a shot if miles would have said trackman was acceptable instead of the scenario he required.

In the powerlifting community I'm definitely a small guy at 6'1" 190lbs. I'm sure there are bigger guys on here, true LD guys, that can no problem.

I have updated the OP. Like Drew's idea and think it would be a fun challenge and to see who all can do it.

Seriously all in good fun for this challenge so let's leave negativity and trolling at the door.

This is not even close to impossible. It really just comes down to a lifter who grew up playing golf and already has a solid golf swing & great speed, then got into lifting. Probably rarer for a lifter (or anyone) to take up golf and be able to get to 300 carry unless he's got a speedy pivot from baseball or hockey combined with good athleticism, hand-eye coordination, etc.

I'm a year away from 50 with a bad left knee so no chance now lol, but in my 20s I'd have no problem with the lifts. I'm not a huge guy...somewhat vertically challenged at 5'9...lol...but back then a very solid 205 lbs. I was more into bodybuilding than powerlifting, so rarely lifted for max singles. Still, at my strongest I could bench 315 for 5 reps, squat 405 for 8 and multiple sets no problem, and could pull 365 for 10 reps and multiple sets easily. I have long arms, so the bench was always toughest; pulling was easiest. Never even came close to trying to max deads but not hard to extrapolate from the above.

I didn't start playing golf until after college and pre-trackman. I had a multi-sport background and could always hit it pretty far, but 300 CARRY is really moving it. I continued lifting as I improved at golf and got down to a single digit hc.

In the early 2000s I had my first ever driver fitting with a Titleist rep, I remember being around 170 ball speed with a 7.5 degree Titleist 975 driver and a Pro-lite x flex shaft (loved that driver!). Hit lots of 300+ drives back then. My swing is better now and so is my hc, but I've lost strength and speed with age and am thrilled if I can achieve 160 ball speeds on good swings.

Still, the challenge is definitely doable for the right athlete. It's just rare that a seriously good golfer is THAT into lifting, and vice-versa.

I can't wait to get back into the gym once the swelling in my legs goes down enough that I can actually bend my knees comfortably. Doing some digging for lifting videos I realized that I used to take videos to critique my form and kind of keep track of my progress as far as asthetics and strength. Once i hit my lifting goals I had set for over a year i stopped with the videos or i just grew out of the phase I was in of documenting my powerlifting journey. It might have been because I quickly realized that at my strongest, I would never be able to sniff a legitimate competition in powerlifting and it was mainly just an off-season winter and early spring hobby for me. When I was my strongest, we did a max day performed in a powerlifting meet style and i weighed in at 236 pounds @ 13% bf and i am 6'1. I hit all 3 personal records that day and I have to admit my bench is the weakest of my 3 lifts. I am able to rep a lot of weight for sets of 5 and plow through a heavy bench day but my max bench never reached it's potential no matter how much I did board work, band work and pause reps.. I just couldn't move as much weight on the bench as I thought I should be able to. Heck, I think at one point I was able to seated shoulder press over 5 plates (on a plate loaded machine) but my best single bench with passing form and a pause was only 365. Best squat ever was 535 with knee wraps and building up to that I was hitting triples with up to 475 and doubles with 495. I would do about 10 sets of squats and then supplement them by going to the leg press and hitting sets of 15-20 with 855 using different foot positions to target the inner and outer parts of my quad and higher/ lower foot positions to target quad or glute more. My best deadlift at the time was 550 and I was working with 5 sets of 5 at 465 on most deadlift days (** I never use straps when I deadlift, bare hands and a little chalk) and some of those days were from a 2" deficit. I always used to squat in Oly shoes and one day I decided to try my chuck Taylors instead and I noticed it was easier to keep the back side of my body tight and i was more explosive out of the hole, shortly after that I kind of tapered off the heavy days as golf season was coming up but I would like to experiment again squatting in different shoes. After all the lifting and supplemental bodybuilding moves last winter I had 19" arms, 28" legs and I had to go find special jeans to get my legs into... good thing I have those jeans now haha, my swollen legs from the crazy water retiention still fit in them.

My first goal was to try and compete in powerlifting for a winter hobby until I realized that in my weight class id need to find over 250 pounds in my lifts to be able to make it worth it to me.. I don't think I could get my lifts up that much without making it a priority in my life so now it remains a hobby yet it is really bothering me that I am unable to go to the gym right now. i remember getting into the mindset a couple times on a max effort attempts where I told myself if I could move the weight, I was not putting it down until I got it up. If I did it all over now I wouldn't do that again. I think once I get back at it I am going to focus more on speed lifts.

I would still like to know what some of the LD monsters lifts are :)

If anyone follows Mark Bell on IG you have to go check out the video he posted of the kid pulling 495 like it is an empty bar. Pretty impressive

I like the challenge. I'll add this to this year's goals. Its funny the 300 carry is going to be the hardest. Maybe work on hitting all the lifts , then switch gears to a little swing speed training. No time frame on the challenge right :) ??

Unfortunately the member who made the bet says trackman is not accurate and can't be use for proof of being able to fly it 300 consistently. His requirements, once a couple members claimed they could do this, are as follows...

Average of 6 times in a round of competition, with a respected member of this forum, using course obstacles such as trees or cart paths to estimate actual carry distance. He gave 2 weeks deadline, in December and 3 weeks into winter here in the states.

Any members who can accomplish this "impossible" feat? Oh and you can't be on PEDs or "fat as crap"(whatever that means)

I mean you were throwing your IG around so I looked at it. You have a video doing 365 in a smith for like 8 reps IIRC. Thats equivalent to ~ 185x5 real squatting IMO.

Just saying it's kinda silly to be throwing around you can do XYZ when your instagram that you reference has you doing squats on a smith

I'm well aware what i have on instagram was on a smith, as that is all planet fitness has and that was my gym at the time. What i had previously on my instagram feed wasnt intened as my current video proof as I'm aware a smith doesn't count.

Right on. It's definitely not as impossible a task as most are jumping to assume. Im opposite of you, 6'1" 190 with short arms so pulling is most challenging for me based on basic range of motion. I play 1" over standard as my wrist to floor measurements are similar to that of someone 6'4".

Even an amended 2, 3, 4 x 4 goal would be tremendous and, IMO, still unlikely to see here on this board:

  • Average over 300 yard carry (5 ball minimum)
  • Bench 2 plates (225) x 4
  • Squat 3 plates (315) x 4
  • Deadlift 4 plates (405) x 4

The bench part is easy enough for experienced lifters (who are still a very small percentage of people who work out), but the squats and deadlift are killers. I blew out my knee in college squatting 315, so there's no way I'd bother with this. I've never attempted a deadlift over 345, either.

That said, the 300 yard carry is no problem :ninja:

Still, the challenge is definitely doable for the right athlete. It's just rare that a seriously good golfer is THAT into lifting, and vice-versa.

Right on. It's definitely not as impossible a task as most are jumping to assume. Im opposite of you, 6'1" 190 with short arms so pulling is most challenging for me based on basic range of motion. I play 1" over standard as my wrist to floor measurements are similar to that of someone 6'4".

Funny how much anatomy impacts lifts. I trained with several guys (thick chests & short arms) who could beat me in the bench by +100 lbs but I'd smoke them in most everything else for weight and for reps. That's why the best benchers are rarely the best deadlifters and vice-versa.

Funny though, I think that not being overly thick through the chest with longer arms is generally an advantage in the golf swing.

...and, good mechanics, sequencing, timing, and speed have a much greater influence on driving distance than raw strength ever will.

How about bench 1.5x bodyweight, squat 2x bodyweight and deadlift 2.5x?

I have updated the OP. Like Drew's idea and think it would be a fun challenge and to see who all can do it.

Seriously all in good fun for this challenge so let's leave negativity and trolling at the door.

If we thought Brandel was hard on Tiger's new swing wait for the form checks once these vids start to get posted!!!!

I'll see if i can get some vids in short order if you want 2, 3, 4 x 4 for bench/s/dl, but I can't pop it more than 275 with any consistency.

lets try and stick with the criteria in the OP.

Playing to a plus 3 and hitting these kinda numbers is incredibly impressive. Best of luck in your recovery!!!

These tasks are going to vary in difficulty for every person on this forum. Some can do none of them. Some can do one or two of the lifting aspects, or even all 3, but not the golf part. 10 years ago the best bench I ever pushed was 325 for a single rep, so 315 for 2 was probably not likely. I was a pitcher and we concentrated much more on shoulders than chest so we could keep range of motion. I've done 455 for 1 on squats and 525 dead for 1, so those are more possible. But then, this was 10 years ago and my "goals" for strength and how my body looked changed drastically in that time frame. I've got a wife and a 15-month old daughter, so my focus now is more on overall health and trying to stay in shape and flexible (which still needs some work!).

The 300 yard consistent carry is no problem at all for me and I still don't understand why that's so hard for people to believe. But, I will admit that even in my prime I don't think I could have accomplished all of those lifts. Now, if this were 10 years ago and the criteria were... 300 yard average carry, 90+ mph average fastball, 400+ ft home run, sub 4.6 second 40-yard dash... I'd be in the running. These days, as long as I can run below a 5.0 second 40 at 265 lbs, I'm good with it, haha. It's been 16 years since I had Tommy John surgery and the elbow is still holding up. That's honestly all I really care about at this point :)

What's with the leg swelling...how'd you get injured?

Back in October I was diagnosed with a rare spontaneous kidney disease and im basically urinating out all the protein in my body leaving little to no protein in my blood and that is causing severe EDEMA in my extremities (legs, feet, arms, hands)... I currently feel like the darn Michelin man with all the swelling and I have been holding close to 30 pounds of pure water retention as a result of this kidney problem. Also taking 13 meds per day for the time being including a corticosteroid to get this into remission. Just a science experiment and waiting game right now, I hope to see some positive results at my next appointment after the new year but so far i haven't had any good news after 7 weeks.

Haven't really thought about a required timeframe, more like a challenge to see who can, who are close etc. I'm sure the thread can go on as long as needed.

I've been on a cut for show in January so my strength level is down. I was 205-210 body weight coming out of my winter bulk in march and pulled 495 twice. BW currently at 190 and have been cutting since November 1. Can currently do the other 3, and will on my next heavy day.

300+ fly trackman verified. I'm fairly lenient on this as IMO you can either fly it 300+ regularly or you can't. Let's say 5 shots on trackman with a video of at least 1.
