How long ago was this?

-CHRIS-

Thursday.

This is the first time I have seen Mills there also. I may have seen a single putter here and there but I don't know if they were new or trades. Who would trade a putter that sweet? Maybe buy another but trade it?

Headonastick.....jay always sends mine ungripped becuase i chop them to down to 33". it palys around D5 to D6 depending on the head and grip but definatly pull the trigger. That NC in you signature will be in the BST very quickly :crazy2:

As for edwin watts unless they bought them from some one im pretty sure that Jay doesn't really want to go there with the putters. They were probally trade ins. If you can get them for a good price you should pick them up if only to resell. the resale value of these are crazy because there are so few of every style, and im not positive but i thnk the T in the cavity stands for Tig welded but im sure Jay will get us all up to speed later.

Tour. And you have Mills in your Golf Shop? Are they trade ins? Jay, Have yall gone mainstream now? Jay can get you one the length you need.

-CHRIS-

David Mills has been selling into golf shops and clubs for about a year now I believe.

David has been friends with the Watts for many years, dating back to the days of when his dad was making putters strictly by hand and before Watts was Watts.

One or two of the stores have been selling the Professional Series since about this time last year. They either bought a few of last years Holiday putters or David sent them some as a "thank you" gesture for their support over the years.

We will be moving into retail accounts in the coming year, but not on a huge scale.

What is the difference between Professional series and a Custom?

Can you do any custom options with the Professional series (Blank sole, different finish etc.) or are all of those options reserved for those buying a custom model?

I appreciate any further insight as I am really considering one of these putters.

I did email Mr. Mills and am just waiting for his reply.

the professional series is a production run of putters.

Custom putters would be a few steps beyond a production and would be a putter that would come with a blank sole and you can personalize it to an extent.

pm me with any other questions

we would love to have you play with one of our putters.

Just finished my first round with my carbon softtail. Couldn't be happier. For those of you on the fence, pull the trigger. Felt solid, put a great roll on the ball all day. :) If I could just read a green, I'd be set. :)

Tracy..good to hear the putter was good. I was waiting to see if you would post results. :crazy2:

A custom is a Hand Made. Shoot Jay a PM. David will also get back to you really quck. Which model are you looking at?

-CHRIS-

I like the look of the Softtail, namely the experimental soft-tail with the plummers neck. I like a slightly thinner looking putter.

Here's a pic:experimential1.jpg

I love a putter that frames the ball so the snow is very appealing to me as well.

Mr. Mills responded earlier today and informed me that he is currently working on a left-handed soft-tail and will get back to me when it's ready.

Reid-

Played Makaha West with Chuck and another friend. The grain there makes it real difficult to read. Putter was awesome though. Struck my putts well. Started everything on my line with a nice tight roll. Plus it looks sweet. It's definitely staying in the bag for a long, long time.

T.P. Mills putters are some of the nicest putters ever made and I have nothing but admiration and respect for T. P. David also makes some nice pieces, but as far as I am concerned they do not offer the sipmle elegance and style of his old mans handmades. It has been stated that Cameron has done nothing but copy others designers ideas. It seems to me that David is the one who has copied his fathers classic blade designes, but has added some Cameron flair with all the additional stampings and brite colors. I own both Cameron and T.P. Mills handmades and bashing either one of them is a joke. They both have created beautiful classic looking and performing putters and are two of the greatest putter makers of our time.

Be careful with the "adding cameron flare"...the Mills Co. was the first to do black finishes, snow, unique stampings like prototype, etc. Basically, Cameron was NOT the originator, he just made it popular.

you're right, no need to argue about the putter makers. but give scotty some more credit. he is hand's down the best headcover designer, best hat designer, best cash cover designer, best staff bag designer, best clock designer, best trailer hitch designer, best bag tag designer, best divot tool designer, best apron designer, best backpack designer, best beanie bear designer, best sticker designer, best towel designer, best shirt designer, etc etc etc and the pink camo hat is to die for!

That was what T.P. did, what has David added to putter designs? There always has to be the first, everyone else just adds their inspiration.

I will chime in on this one.

David designed a putter called the Softtail, I am sure you have heard of it, since Toms used it to win Memphis, it was copied by SC and everyone else, including Never Compromise.

I guess you could also throw the Klassic in there, since Tommy Armour III set the all time PGA scoring record with it in 2003, DJ Trahan won with it, also this year at the Southern Farm Bureau. The Fleetwood would qualify as one of David's designs, too.

Just my two cents.

What is even funnier is how the others including David Mills have tried to follow suite and once again they have found competing with Cameron difficult at best.

I guess if you call working at maxed out capacity having trouble competeing, then you might be right, but we have had a great year and will have a better year next year.

I don't really know why you have decided to start this, but your opinions are not correct.

There is a lot of support for the Mills Co., just because you don't share the enthusiasm, doesn't mean you need to start a thread like this.

We are all trying to gain market share. Scotty is a great marketer and a great putter maker and so is David.

We obviously don't have the resources to be a machine like Scotty, but we all have to start somewhere and we are gaining more and more support everyday.

Well Cameron wouldn't be around to "follow suite" in headcovers, hats, special edition putters if it wasn't for Ping and Mills laying the ground in the first place (cool) Basically the discussion can go around and around...instead of starting the "discussion" we should just appreciate the good qualities they each have to offer and choose which one to follow, game, and collect. You seem to be a Cameron devote so I'll do you a favor and trade you for that Mills in your post above. I'm sure I can find some Camerons for ya! Or you could putt with a Mills and change your screen name here on Golfwrx to Mills2Putt

Why the assumption that they are competing with Cameron?

Not everyone measures success by volume; I like Cameron putters as much as the next person, but there is definitely something lost in the craftmanship when Scotty Cameron's became mass produced in large numbers. A one off tour Camy is a different story, but hold a Mills or Byron next to an off-the-rack Cameron and there is no comparison.

I am pretty sure the initial post was made in jest, but the fact is that Cameron makes top notch one off tour putters, and above average retail putters. His shop does outstanding refinish work. But the other Cameron merchandise is simply average - designed to make a buck and I actually believe (but have no way of knowing) that most of it wouldn't even exist if it were up to Scotty alone.

Perhaps Mills et. al. want to remain craftsmen and not marketeers.
