Inspired by Justin Thomas, executed by Tom Slighter

I'm a flow neck guy who was looking forward to the Day / Johnson putter release. When they came out, I was a little underwhelmed by the feel. Then I began to see the one-offs like Justin Thomas is playing on various Cameron sites...and the corresponding pricing.

 

I've worked with Tom before - he converted my KP1 into a flowneck. Enter 'inspiration'. Then JT went on his current run.

 

I sent Tom a Cameron X5 and we've been working on the flowneck treatment. I don't have the putter in hand yet, but I have some pics I thought i'd share. The head of the X5, without the shaft, is 320gs. With the 15s, it's 350. The neck added 20gs, so i've got some tour issue 5gs coming that i'm sending up to Tom to bring this sucker down to 350-355g.

 

I'll be updating this thread, but here's a preview of Tom's amazing work. Man, Tom's work is just aces, and his communication is top notch.

A lot of people like the welded look as it makes it seem to have a more personalized custom touch. Here is a pic of my X5 that I had Tom weld a plumber's neck on last year. Guy can make any idea come to life! Awesome stuff OP!

The goal of the toe hang is to mimic a 1.5 to the extent possible to lend to an arc stroke. I'll post more pics when it arrives.

 

As far as the weld marks, I think that goes with the territory, the soldering marks, when you have a one off. Thomas has similar markings from the process on his.

That is one of the prettiest welds I have seen in a while. My guy is amazing and it is always cool to see others who really have it dialed in. Not everyone will love the look of a welded neck, but if it is done this gorgeous, I am a huge fan of it. You know, just from looking at it, that nobody cast this putter.

Tom is an amazing guy and one of the truly good guys in the putter world. Kudos for sharing your killer conversion!

No I ordered it from The Putter Lounge. They have all kinds of matte and gloss colored shafts on their website and are incredibly reasonable in price!

I've wondered this same thing for years and years. I guess some people like the look of the weld and each one is unique. For me, I'd rather have that thing sanded down as much as it possibly can without compromising the actual weld strength (which can be done).

 

I guess everyone is different, but I'm with you on this. Welding is an art, but if you can make a real good, uniform weld, sand/grind that baby down

Looks great! I talked with Tom a few months ago about doing this to mine. Great work on it. Did he refinish in satin?

 

Tom did a flowneck on a red x for me awhile back and turn around time was about 2 weeks .

Is the neck simply welded on or a hole needs to be drilled, inset some base in the hole ... You know what I mean? If it's straight weld, is it strong enough?
