Heart surgery

Well guys I just got home yesterday from having valve replacement. Partial sturnectomy. I'm doing well and now enjoying life mostly on the recliner for awhile.

 

I was just curious if any of you have gone through the same thing and how long before you were able to play golf and be 100% physically actvive again?

 

My doctor said approximately 3 months, sound about right?

 

Excuse any type-o's and grammatical errors. Still on the pain meds. :)

Thanks, life happens and I knew this was coming several years now. Good to get it out of the way during the winter when it's cold outside and there is lots of B-ball and golf on TV

Haven't gone through that either, but know someone who has. From what he has told me, he has much more energy now than before the surgery. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery!

That's what they say. I've really been dragging a** the last year or so. So it was time.

I had a triple bypass several years ago, and it was about 3 months before I was back on the course. Good luck in your recovery.

That sounds fast.. I just had bicep tendon re attached and Dr said 3-4 months

Three months is about right. I did physical therapy, after a while got permission to putt and chip, gradually worked my way up to the full swing. Played the forward tees for a few weeks, swinging easy and just grateful to be back out on the course. It was a near thing.

First off I wish you a speedy and full recovery. I have never had any surgery except for kidney stones so I have no idea. My buddy just went through a 5 way bypass about 6 weeks ago and is back playing as of this week. Now not to be misconstrued he is not hitting at it full bore either.

 

Seriously everyone's body is different and you may heal faster than others. Take your Doctor's advice by all means and do not push it too fast too soon.

My dad has had open heart 3 times and the recovery time was always a few months, 3 months sounds about right but if I remember correctly it's more like when he stopped being in pain every time he coughed.

 

Did he say 3 months until you can play golf or 3 months until you will start feeling better?

I wish you fast recovery. My father-in-law, 83 years old, had his aortic heart valve replaced through TAVR procedure last year. He was release from the hospital after 3 days. He is very hyperactive and can't sit still. He even walked a mile right after hospital release to make sure that the artificial valve is working ok! Walks at least one hour/ day even in snow and ice. He is now able to play 18 holes with no problem at all.

Just do what you need to do and don't rush it your life is worth more than rounds of golf and those three months are a very small price to pay for your health.

3 months till resuming normal activity.

Well I'm on week 4 and feeling much better. But hitting short putts in the basement is still a bit uncomfortable. I might go back to work part time next week. I am really starting to get a bit stir crazy. I am walking 30-45 minutes a day, which is nice.

I'm just reading some of the responses and your own estimated time frame for resuming your normal life and i'm shocked. 3 months? That's crazy to me|! I have cheese older than that! Go Science!

 

Glad you're feeling better man, hope you notice a more rapid improvement with each day. That work goes well and practicing those three putts becomes old hat soon! ;)

Not going to sugar coat it....... the surgery and the healing process is a b!t($. However once the pain from my chest being cracked open subsides I see no reason I can't tee it up. That being said I still have about 75% of the pain.

Hope your recovery is as easy as possible but, I am sure if physical therapy is involved it will be worthwhile, if somewhat uncomfortable. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Best of luck!!

Glad to hear that! You were smart enough to have this happen during the winter...like an idiot I waited until the summer.
