Will Taylormade M1/M2 TP tip work in R1 head ?

I've read some conflicting into on Golfworks site so I wanted to know if the new style M1/M2 TP (1.5* loft ) shaft adapter tip works in the TM R1 head ?

Yes is will but the R1 had a 4* total sleeve.

Thanks guys. Might pick up an R1 head. Liked that it had the compass looking thing on the sole to adjust face angle. Wish more clubs had that feature.

What do you need done with face angle? All adjustable hossels change the face angle of the head so in general you don't really need the sole plate to control face angle.

 

The sole plate was largely helpful in the R1 head because they only made it with a single static loft so the sole plate could be used (to some degree) to offset the face angle change that occurred when changing loft with the hossel adjustment. They dropped it when they went back to offering multiple lofts options again for each head because it just wasn't as important.

I am finding that I need more loft with my driver but do not need a closed face. My swing speed is right around 90 mph. Some days a little higher, some days a little lower.

In a recent Trackman session I found out that I was actually launching my Ping G 10.5* higher when I had the loft set to neutral than I did in the "+" setting. Whenever I set it to + its closing the face at address. I know to get the full impact of loft adjustments you have to re-set the face to square and regrip. I have tried this and the whole setup just feels foreign to me. So I prefer to play the club as it lies. So with my strong grip I have no issues with closing the face and actually close it too much removing loft/launch at impact. Essentially low smother hooks.

 

As for my Trackman numbers I seem to hit the M2 12* best lofted down versus the 10.5 heads lofted up. I like the look at address with the sleeve set to lower, but given I like the high launch, lofting them down hurts my launch a bit. So in a nut shell I am looking for a high lofted head that sits neutral if not slightly open.

So far the best look to my eye has been the Epic 13.5 head set at -1*. Yesterday I hit it quite well.

 

I remembered buying the R1 driver for my brother last season and how it had the sole adjustment and the light bulb went off that I could put the heavier weight in the toe to help keep the face square, set to the compass to get the face angle how I want it and can set the loft to 12*. Thought it might be the perfect combo. He lives 2 hours away so I can't try his. :(

Well, R1 set to 12* would result in ~3.6* more closed than whatever the neutral 10* loft face angle might be (which I think is close to 0*). Then the sole plate can supposedly open that up ~3*. So it could offset some of the closed face angle created with the loft set all the way but not all of it. It still might be a little closed. Not sure you're going to gain anything over using an actual 12* head (since their neutral face angles can vary) - but you never know until you try.

Thanks for laying this all out. Still on the driver search. Might try and snag a cheap R1 head. If anyone has a clean one shoot me a PM.
