Confused and desperate choosing a shaft!!!

Hi people, I joined this forum because I need advice on what is happening to me, I just got fit for the first time because I really want to take my golf game seriously and the results have left me totally confused...

Some stats: I am a 31 year old 18 handicapper and I play golf 3 to 4 times a week.

So the fitting results came out like this:

Driver swing speed of 107mph and 230 yard carry

7 iron swing speed of 77 mph and 170 yard carry

Now, the weird thing here is, I've owned tons of Drivers and Iron sets, I am so wrong I want to buy anything that comes out thinking other equipment is going to help my game more, it doesn't.

I've hit Taylormade M1, M2, Callaway Great Big Bertha, Nike Vapor Fly Pro, Krank Golf, you name it. With stock and custom shafts such as Oban Kiyoshi, Veylix. All in stiff or even x-stiff. No matter what Driver i hit, it's always a slice. Slice, slice, slice. I do come over the top a lot in my swing, I am already fixing that but the thing is no single Driver helped me...

Then I came across with the XXIO 9 Driver, liked the colors and marketing info so I bought it, first hit i took it went super high and totally straight, giving me a total distance of 250y.

Specs on the Driver are insane, nobody would even think of recommending this Driver to me, attached you'll see the pictures of the specs but it is a 46 gram, 6.2 torque stiff shaft called "MP900 Dual Speed Technology" and they claim its made by Dunlop.

That is my current Driver, all my shots are straight, I rarely hit a slice with this Driver, I just love it, light, high and long, hitting 280 yard total distance regularly.

THIS DRIVER GOES AGAINST MY FITTING PARAMETERS AND ITS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS FOR ME!

I don't know what happens with me or my body mechanics... Driver problem solved, I am going to stick with this Driver forever.

Now I have no clue what IRON SHAFTS I need to get for my irons, given my 77mph 7 iron swing speed it supposedly aims for a steel stiff shaft but since my driver stats differ with the Driver I play and it works so well for me, I don't know what to do.

What kind of Iron shaft do you guys think I need? what stiffness and weight? I think weight is more important...

If I can make a decision based on the the feedback you guys may give me, I am going to get those shafts for either one of my 3 sets: Callaway Great Big Bertha OS 2017, Nike Vapor Speed 2015 or Callaway Apex CF16

Thank you guys!

230 yd carry w/ 107 mph club head speed isn't much of a fitting IMO. Way too many details are lacking to try and account for the difference though - although I suspect a large part of it is that the club specs were not really fit properly to give you the best face contact location and consistency.

And it's the results that are the only thing that matters - so nothing wrong with sticking to what works and anytime someone tells you that you "should" play this or that and does not validate that with actual improved results (or in the case of the forum advice here suggest that you go demo a particular change or set-up before dropping any money on it) - don't worry about ignoring them.

There is no short cut, you have to get out and test out the different options to find what really fits or not. Just realize, playing length, shaft weight, swing weight, shaft stiffness, even grip size can be very important part of the fitting process. The flex labels are arbitrary with no standard so don't get overly fixated on that. There is no should or shouldn't when it comes to graphite vs steel - it all comes down to the weight and stiffness being a good fit, the material doesn't make a difference (except maybe when it comes to cost).

Agree with Stuart.

One thing for sure....if you're hitting the driver 250 & straight, and can pop it out to 280.....good for you!

Your iron shafts do not need to match your driver shaft, and I hope you realize that.

Good luck, and if you can provide some additional information, I'm sure that you will receive some more good input.

There is nothing in that post that adds up to me. Forget the equipment(except the miracle driver, lol) and work on your swing, its terrible, even for a newbie. Stop worrying about swing speed and please take that bs someplace else. Not saying there aren't gullibles in here but not many I'm guessing. If I'm totally off base with you motive i'm sorry, it sounds like bs to me. But I know I'm correct on your swing.

Two things:

1. A fitting should have narrowed this down for you. Were you just put on a trackman and measured, or did you try a bunch of other clubs and shaft options and find that a specific brand and shaft combination resulted in the most consistent and repeatable results? A fitting should result in specific club and shaft recommendations, not speed and distance.

2. If you're not happy with the recommendations, stick with what works. Confidence in your gear is more important than using the latest and greatest or what was recommended.

Take a look at this chart ive made for shaft weight progression in the bag.

Since i dont know the length of the driver, or if its weight or other specs that make it work, use the chart with some salt, but it will give you a idea of a starting point for the others so you can eliminate options to far off.

Shaft weight listed is UNCUT official weight - 46" for drivers and woods, and 41" for hybrids.

OP, forget the new shaft(s) and get lessons.

Learn how to swing the club, cure your "over the top" and THEN get fitted. You can thank me later.

Over the years the "proof" is that you should carry your driver roughly 2.5 times your SS. That would be about 267. Which driver did you use that got only 230 with 107. I can't understand how a LM would have you at 230 yet you hit it total 280.

And a 46 gram shaft for a 107 SS would be recommended by no one.

But if you love it, you love it - who's to say ?!?!?!

Wanna bet you won't play this driver "forever" though ? :D

Over the top is very often due to a misfit of length and or shaft weight vs head weight, so what comes first, the hen or the egg?

If the player cant feel both the shaft and the head at the top, there is no way he know where the top is, so to put it on the edge, you are suggesting that a blind man should learn how to see, so i would start in the other end, and make sure length, plus feedback of shaft weight and head weight is good, then it will be possible to change that habit.

Don't think he cares about his swing and that's probably the least of his concerns. A good con artist is well versed in his product, and even more so in his potential victim. The OP failed miserably on those two. One man's opinion though.
