How many sets of irons don you play?

I play two different set throughout the year. A set of AP2 712 and a set of Z-Blades.

I switched from Mizuno MP-H4's to 716 CB's but typically keep the MP-H4 3 and 4 irons in the bag as utility clubs. I go back and forth as to whether to swap the 5 iron for the Mizuno utility or whether to add the CB 4 iron back in.

I personally play one set of irons. However, we have a customer at work who plays 5 sets of identical irons. All sets are Callaway Apex CF16 irons with Recoil shafts. Each set is spec'd exactly the same for length, lie, loft and grip. The only difference is the color of the grips (NDMC) so he can tell each set apart. He bags one set and keeps the other 4 in a closet and rotates them out as he sees fit.

I have 46 sets of irons that I rotate frequently, with the optimistic notion that eventually it will prove to be the arrow and not the indian :)

I have 2 sets. A set of Vega VC-03s and a set of Miura MC102s. I currently play the Vegas. No switching back and forth.

Currently playing Ping i25's, but just had a set of Wilson F5 tours re-shafted and have been trying them out in practice rounds. Even if I switch, I would plan to keep the i25's for any time I have to hit off of a mat so I can keep the forged Wilsons looking nice.

I have three sets in rotation:

 

PING G (7-9) & Glide (46*/52*/58*)

PING G25 (7-SW)

PING EYE2 (5-9) & Tour-S (50*/55*)

 

They're all pretty different but similar enough so it's not too much of a hassle to transition from one to the other...

I can't imagine swapping ones in and out. It's much easier for me to know how one set performs.

Currently have a set of United SBB1 that I got off the BST and fell in love with. I have a second set of callaway apex irons that I use in a Sunday bag when I want to play with half a bag. The extra distance on the apex makes it much easier to pull off. If a set of the black SBB1 irons come back, the number might go up to 3 sets.

Main gamers are JPX EZ-Forged in a cart bag I use for riding and push-cart. Backups are Cleveland TA7s in my walking bag. Third set are Power Play Caiman Raw Power X2s in a set I keep at my parents' house in KY so I don't have to take a bag when I travel up there. Currently considering sending the TA7s up to KY and putting the Caimans in my walking bag... the TA7s launch really low even on Dynalite 100s and the Caimans baloon on the Shadow Lights, so I'm thinking a shaft swap might help both sets.

I evolve - or possibly devolve as I grow older. Used to play AP1s but went through lots of sets since, like S58s and then Speedbladez.

 

I now have a nice set of Tourstage V300 forged irons with graphite shafts which I love playing.

 

I should be satisfied but I'm playing around with demo 7 irons like XR, M2 Tour, Aeroburner........

I used to have 2 at any given time. A set of CB/MBs -(735.CM) and a more forgiving set (710 AP2). I played the AP2s mostly and would switch when I was really feeling good about my swing or really feeling bad about it LOL. For some reason putting the 735s in the bag would force me to concentrate a little more and get back to basics.

 

I've recently sold the 735s and I'm about to sell the AP2s as soon as I get my new set built up.

 

I just picked up a set of 716 T-MBs and figure they should be the perfect middle ground. I hope (and so does my wife) that from this point on I'll be a "1 set guy".

I have too many sets. Cycle through about 5 different sets more regularly, but get the urge to play the other sets from time to time. Mix of Mizuno, Titleist, Bridgestone, Ping, and a couple other randoms.

I have had a very educational last 4 months! I have been listening to You Guys!!

 

The just arrived MP33 irons rebuilt with wood dowels in the DG SL shafts are sweet ! (last weekend)

The Classic had to buy J33CB's are say 14 months with me.They seemed to be on lots of Must Buy lists. Nice.

The 1971 ish Slazenger Hogan Apex heads are nice, original shafts (apex 2) seem harsh , hurt my right elbow.

Will look at Apollo Shafts or any Royal Precisions i can find, love them!! eg in X14 Pro Callaways.

 

So 2 sets ready to play and Hogans to rebuild, thats enough!!I;m just seeing the humour in having two sets of 33's in my Favourites !

64 sets here with probably another 7-8 that are "hidden" around the house in various rooms, closets and crannies ;)

 

I Started the season with the Mizzy 68's, switched to the Staff 59's the end of June and those were my irons through my last Tourney in October~

 

My back-up sets were identical to those in my bag, initially the 68's then another set of 59's-

 

I was ok however I wasn't of the ability to Play to a +2.8 Playing 3-4 or more differently designed sets of irons, lol

I've struggled with my irons since I had a set of Copper Ping ISI stolen, just before I went back to university. I ended up buying a set of Titleist 990s and I had them for years, many of which I didn't play or was living abroad. They were pretty great irons, but if I cared more, I probably would've ditched them years ago. Since settling down the last couple years, I've gained all these beautiful pieces of steel. Now looking to narrow it down to the best of the best.

 

A lot of the sets are rarities I came across online and have always heard about but never touched, so if the price was right I pulled the trigger. I know that an iron is an iron and if you are playing well you could hit it well with just about anything, but I also know a little strange now and then keeps life interesting. And, as with the Eye2s, it's nice to take out an old flame every once in a while, if only to see why it was you moved on in the first place.

 

And after all this typing and thinking about golf clubs, I've got that old itch for a bucket of balls.
