What do you collect when you travel?

A few years back I started to collect logo golf balls from destination/highly regarded golf courses that I play. I wish I would've started this sooner as my collection would be more impressive by now. I plan on building a display cabinet for these down the line and it'll be something I can add to over my lifetime.

 

One of my travel partners tends to pick up a ball marker everywhere he goes, and I play with another guy who keeps scorecards from top courses.

 

What if anything do you grab?

Early on I used to buy logo stuff from courses with the same thought in mind. Years later it's all still right in the drawers that I put them in so I stopped doing it. At most I'll buy a shirt or hat that I will wear because I know that they will get used and after the appropriate amount of time, get tossed. Building a cabinet to display stuff is a pipe dream because sooner or later we come to the realization that someone isn't going to let that happen.

Used to collect logo balls and maybe a ballmark or shirt. Now all the balls I've collected over the years are sitting in a plastic bin.

 

Now when I play a new course I'll get a shirt or ballmark if there are any I like but I'll be sure to grab a pencil. I plan on making a nice display with pencils from all the courses I've played.

I like to get a yardage book. I have actually pulled them out and looked through them. Usually during the winter when I'm going through withdrawals.

I usually grab an extra score card. I have hundreds of them from different courses I've played over the years. I'll grab ball markers or divot tools tool, if they are nice.

I usually try to grab a shirt too, if they have one I like. I have hundreds of them, much to my wife's dismay. Bad part is, I have a ton from the old days that are cotton and I don't wear them anymore. Hate to get rid of them though, so they take up space in the spare bedroom closets...........again, much to my wife's dismay. ;)

I used to try and pickup towels with the course logo. Now I have all these towels sitting in a closet. I now just grab a divot tool or an extra score card.

Divot tools, but only if they are simple and preferably free, otherwise might pick up something because I forgot something else. I have a friend who collects scorecards so I try to remember to grab one for him.

Always keep a scorecard, sometimes a yardage book. Will get a shirt if it's a highly ranked course.

 

Used to collect bag tags but they seem to be old school, fewer places offering them and private clubs are reluctant. Maybe I should move to logo balls...

Totally agree. I played TimberStone in Michigan (5 Star by GD, but never see it on top 100 lists) a few years back and when I went to make my logo ball purchase I took one look at what they had and turned around.

Got a drawer full of scorecards from almost all of the courses I've played downstairs, like a few have said I've got some ball markers/divot tools/yardage books from courses that give them away...if I ever get to some of the bucket list courses I'm sure I'll pick up a shirt or something a bit more memorable...

I used to collect scorecards, yardage books, and/or divot tools. I still usually do (minus the yardage books; I don't bother), and then if the place is really neat or has a really neat logo I'll look for a shirt or a hat. Haven't played a course like that in a while (that I didn't already have).

If I'm in a city with a major or minor league ball club, I'll try to find a hat. Occasionally a course will have a hat that I must have. Last one of those was at Paiute -- cool Native American logo.

 

Hats must be low-profile and floppy. "Old man hats" as my wife would say.

I'm a ho when it comes to new courses that I might not play again, logo ball, ball marker, pitch repair tool, towel, polo, hat, extra score card, tees and pencil if it has the name on!

I try to get a pin flag and a yardage book from the courses I play. Sometimes a shirt or a ball marker. Scorecard and a pencil are two things I always get, no matter how ugly the number I'm the "Total" box is!
