Opinions on MG Golf rangefinders?

So I did a search of this forum and nothing came up. I just bought the soon to be released MG Golf MG600s rangefinder with slope and jolt. It seems like a steal for $120.

Has anyone used the old MG400?

 

I've never used a rangefinder in my life. I've used Golfshot GPS app for last 5 years or so and I'm excited for the new guy to arrive.

one of my playing partners got the new slope version. its very good. I have a Tour X... and it was (he is an older man, so had me figure it out for him) spot on with every shot i took with mine. has a good display and the slope calculations can be turned off.

 

So far everything Rich at MG has brought to market has been legit. This same man bought the senior ball, and loves them. They sure don't want to stop on a green, but they go off the clubs...

Looks like a different version of the one I got from Dallas Golf last year. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it works well for me.

 

Be sure to carry a spare battery, as mine gave no advance notice of the battery being weak before giving up completely.

Ididnt get one, but I have plans to grab one as a backup and I am going to get my son back into golf this summer, I have some lessons lined up. his biggest problem is that he isn't very good, but his natural swing is killer (and he is 6'2" and a bean pole) so if our local YODA can get him hitting the ball, then he will be able to play with the local kids his age that play... they can break 100 but thats about it.

 

He will be a Freshman next year, and the golf team lost 2 guys already... so he could do that if he enjoyed playing. my main reason is that we live on a golf course and it would give him some social interactions.

 

 

bad thing is that he is like me, and is stupid competitive...

Well, I feel like MG golf never puts out any bad products. Maybe not the best ones, but very value worthy items. I feel like it's got to be pretty good for the money.

As stated previously, I bought the same unit branded differently for Dallas Golf. It's worked well for me ... until this weekend when I dropped it (my bad). It was in the pouch that comes with it (thin, not much protection) and I was moving it from my bag to the front of the cart and dropped it on the blacktop. It hit pretty hard. It still mostly works, but seems to be having trouble picking up flags now.

ok I've had it 2 weeks used it 8 times... it's surprisingly good for the $$$ .. slope gives + or - 02% or more.. easy 2 use .. at this point it's well worth the $$$ the laser is easy to latch onto the flag jolt technology works well too.. so for 119.oo happy with purchase

yeah, its a good product. most everything they sell is better than the price.. The Ball is a great one... I would mind if they did a yellow, or a C4tourX in a four piece...

What is the difference between looking through the view finder and looking at the lcd screen

How hard is it to lock on to the flag?

My experience is most all lasers are very accurate. What you tend to give up in the cheaper ones is speed, distance capability, and ability to separate the flag from a busy background. Also durability and weather resistance. I've never had a problem with Bushnell. Currently using a V4 and it works great under all conditions.

IDK I was messing with a tectectec and leupold 2i2 and 3i2 side by side by side and the tectectec was 2 to 3 yards off compared to the leupold

I sent a tectectec back because in slope mode it told me something was 2 yards up hill. But when I shot the same spot going the other way it played perfectly flat. Oh. And when shot on a bushnell tour x, it's 10 yards. Both directions.

I just received the slope model and played today! The slope correction seemed to be very accurate on holes that were 3 degrees up. Locked on the pin fast and the jolt worked well. I have a tour6 without slope and wanted a slope as I play a lot of courses in Colorado that have elevation changes. I have 60 days to return but looks like a keeper for $120. Was also very clear and easy to lock onto the flag.Not sure about battery life but that is of a small concern and I always carry a spare. Distance was spot on with my Bushnell. The case worked well as I strapped on my belt. The unit is very light but had no problem holding it steady. I would recommend giving this a try.

It uses the standard rangefinder battery, the CR2.

I have been using one for 3 months now and could not be happier with it. It is very accurate and easy to use. I have used Bushnell's in the past and this is just as good and only $120. Highly recommend it.

I know some got satisfactory resolution from MG. I have just started the process of seeing whether there is a warranty or MG will try and make me good somehow. My unit is barely a year old (I must have bought it at the tail end of its product cycle).

Just a heads up, but if it was purchased via credit card, some card companies have extended warranties with electronics that were purchased using their card...might be worth looking into.

So I've been using mine all season and I love it! It's well worth the $$$. I do tend to shoot a flag 3-4 times to get a good average because a couple times a round a number comes up that seems really off. I have noticed that it does tend to not work as well when the flag / stick isn't 3/4 visible or when there are tree branches in the way (prob the case with most lasers, just never used any other brands). My battery has lasted all season with about 2 rounds per week use. I def trust it over my gps on my phone (Golfshot).

Have the slope version - MG600S....it works well...seems as accurate as others....best when in slope mode

 

no problems so far...would recommend!
