I don't deserve a range finder...... but people suck too!

So I am beating myself up today as I realize i lost my 2nd range finder in a year. First was left in a cart last year and this one is a mystery except I walked on Saturday and know I had it on 18. Went to the range after the round but regardless, down 2 and neither got turned in.

 

I am more pissed at myself but also disappointed in people in general. I turn stuff in all the time when I find personal items on the course.

 

So how about you? What have you lost but was lucky enough to get back? Share some positivity my way.... I need a pick me up. :)

I turned in a pair of Oakleys I found by a tee box. Someone turned in a brand new Cleveland RTX 3 I left not too long ago.

Left a wedge st the range and hit it back. Somehow, a 3 hybrid disappeared between my 2nd shot on hike #1 and hole #5. It was never seen by me again. Once left a upro gps in the cart. Never got that one back.

I left my 8 iron near the green on a course in Memphis (live in MI), didn't realize for over a month due to the snow we had and I was able to call and sure enough they had it. Not quite sure what someone would do with a lone 8 iron, but I was still very relieved anyways!

My shoes got stollen once. They turned up about a week later, all muddy.

 

My best guess is someone forgot their shoes and decided to borrow mine.

Left a rangefinder at a popular course in Knoxville and it disappeared. Hate that place and won't go back.

OP, after losing a rangefinder while playing (of course no one turned it in..) Keeps the rangefinder secure and also allows for detachment, which I do everytime I leave my bag unattended.

Sorry to hear about your rangefinder...can't believe someone would steal that.

 

Last year I found about seven clubs, including a brand new set of TM EF ATV wedges. I had a pair of Oakley's stolen. Some people seem to forget about the honor and integrity part of the game.

We have quite a different atmosphere at our club--we often have carts approach us on fairways and greens with someone asking if we "left a club on...?" or, conversely, we are delivering forgotten clubs a hole or two in advance. If the owners aren't located the clubs go into the pro shop or, if head covers, clothing, etc. to the cart shed where the kids store them until if and when they are looked for.

I can't imagine keeping/using a personal item of someone's--it would jinx me I am sure.

That sucks about the rangefinder. I left it on a tee box once, and my stomach was in knots as I went back to look for it.

 

I turn in stuff that I find - it really is not that tough to do, just need to remember to do it.

 

One of my golf companions left an 8i on a hole, never to be seen again.

I found a Sharpie marker on the cart path. Didn't like the color so I turned it in.

 

Five years ago I found a wedge on the edge of a green. It was a model that was current back in the 1990's and I'm pretty sure the original Victory grip was still on there. There was shaft showing in one thumb sized spot where the grip was worn through. Icky doesn't begin to describe it.

 

A couple holes later the owner circled back to claim it. I asked him if he'd ever thought of changing the grip and he said, "Why? I wear a glove..."

I am pretty well known for finding golf balls at my course, usually because i play a couple of late day rounds after work every week and since the course is dead i scour the forests for balls.

 

I make a point of returning any balls i find where i recognize the markings.

One day I left a putter on the green circled back later, nothing, back to the cart barn nothing, check at the club house, nothing.

 

I guess some person found it and kept it.

 

So disappointing it was at a pretty nice country club in rural N.J.

I've never lost anything that didn't get turned in. Even left a range finder in the cart once and the cart boy found me inside and gave it back.

 

I lost a 5 iron once too. (what??) It was in some long grass that you weren't allowed to take a cart into, and I recall taking 2 clubs with me, and obviously laid it down. About a month later when I called they had it. It had a bit of a scuff mark on the hozel, looked like they might have run it over with the mower, but it was fine.

... that's the same sh!theel who comes in the shop and asks if we carry "Lambskin" and calls them "handles".

I have always turned in everything I've ever found at any facility that's "lost" by others, range finders amongst them. anyone who doesn't should be drawn and quartered.

I left a brand new Ping Eye 2 XG sand wedge outside a bunker a few years back. Got home and realized it was gone so I called the shop the next morning. They asked me to describe it and I did but the guy said "well we have a Ping Eye 2+". So long story short somebody left their old Eye 2 and went in and claimed the latest greatest at the time. I hope that mother &*^%$# never gets up and down again to be quite honest. I have turned in everything I've ever found from a Top Flite headcover to a brand new Vokey wedge. Hell I turned in a divot tool once. I dont play finders keepers because I can afford damn near anything you could leave on a course. From that day forward I started stamping my initials on every club possible. Obviously that wouldn't deter a flat out thief but it helps.

Thanks for the stories. I guess am happy I got the range finder 70% off when Sports Authority was going out of business. (takes the sting out of losing it for sure) Now my regret was not buying a back up when the price was right.

 

I still have my Garmin S10 GPS so I guess that will be my go to for a while.

You can't legislate for the folks who ain't built the way you are. So far I've lost 2 pairs of oakleys (one in the dining room of my club) and a pair of Ray Bans. I've never found anything other than a wallet on the course. That stuff does come around, I have to believe.

I'll never understand why everything gets moved out of general golf. If North Butte creates a thread about returning that sharpie, they'll move it to the office supplies sub-forum.

I find it bad karma not to turn in found items. Last week I returned a pair of Oakleys, a wedge and a rangefinder. Still played like crap this weekend.

Every so often I can't help myself and will ask a pro "Do you have a lost and found?" when he says yes, I ask "Did anyone one turn in a Tileist Pro v1? Brand new condition - I lost it on the 7th hole."

I'm similar to you, I have and will always loose things on the course. So I've had things returned and some not.

 

I've left my rangerfinder in the cart and I'm not sure it it went out again but I got that back.

Left my swing weight on the course, that never showed up.

Left my swing weight on the cart, I was able to get it back.

Dropped my tee bag with accessories in it on the course, was thankfully returned to the clubhouse.

Have lost various divot tools, didn't expect to get those back.

 

Some people suck, some people don't, but don't expect others to pick up after you, you lost it you lost it
