I don't deserve a range finder...... but people suck too!

I'm on my second rangefinder, and only because the first one finally died. But after my first one fell out of the cart on the on the resort course in Florida -- and I just happened to come across it the next morning (how it wasn't hit by a mower or found by someone else, I have no idea) -- I've taken to hugely/boldly writing my name and cell number on them with a paint pen. I don't care about the resale value or the aesthetics of any of my rangefinders (again, they're used by me until they don't work anymore), so might as well make them as identifiable and returnable as possible.

 

Edit: I now see where this was already recommended. So, consider this just another endorsement of the name and number plan.

Good idea on engraving or melting in name/phone #.

 

Speaking of not turning in found equipment - I left a mid-90s era RAM 5 iron (blade) on the range last year. It was never turned in. Who in their right mind steals a club like that? The somewhat good news is I found a replacement on the bay for pretty cheap. People are nuts. I'm guessing it's being used as a fireplace poker at this point.

Someone stole my golf clubs out of my car and my rangefinder was in my bag. Also, a rangefinder went missing from my cart when I was playing as a single which was very suspicious. It is highly likely someone stole it out of my cart when my back was turned. People seems to turn in clubs because they don't usually have use for a random club but rangefinders are expensive so I think people target them.

I have only lost head covers here and there, and have been lucky enough to get them back. Someone always turned it in. Nice Cobra F7 cover too.

 

I have turned in several wedges over the past year left on or near greens, including a brand new looking Ping G400 iron, and Ping Glides

About 10 years ago I was at PGASS in Roswell, GA. I was getting in my car to leave and I noticed a whole set of clubs including the bag laying on the ground near a shopping cart that was pushed up onto the landscaping to avoid the laziness of not walking the cart back. It was in a very odd place. there weren't any cars around it at the time. I waited in my car for at least 15 minutes to see if someone would eventually come back for it or someone else come and look at, no one ever approached the bag. I went over and it was a brand new set of Ping Raptures w/Senior Flex shaft's, New Ping Driver, FW, and Hybrids, along with a new Ping bag. They still had the plastic on them. I've been around golf my entire 39 year life and it never once crossed my mind to take those clubs and sell them or do whatever with them. I took them inside and explained to the PGASS staff what happened. I will say, I was a little underwhelmed at their response. I just turned in at least $1k in merchandise and all you can say is "Someones going to be happy." Not a thank you or anything. Thanks goes a long way, folks. I'm secretly thinking that the golf gods will reward me with my first ace!!! Still waiting... To be continued....
