DIY Gun Bluing - TEI3??

guys, I tried searching for this and couldn't find an answer --

 

I have a Tei3 2nd generation; doesn't need full refurb as there are really no dings or anything.

 

Can I gun blue the putter without having to remove the insert? Do I need to take precautions with the teryllium insert ie cover it with something?

 

any help would be awesome.

Doesn't look like he even touched the paint fill. Left it all there.

I've done it by covering the insert with masking tape (used high quality 3M) or using a quality clear packing tape. You can also do it by being careful if just "brushing" it on and being more aggressive with the steel wool with any product making it on the insert.

i tried to watch that gibrone and couldn't take it for 10 minutes. i'd rather ask the folks of wrx to see if they had any first-hand experience.

what'd you do for the white holes on the back...? does it do anything to the elastomer??

You don't need to do anything for the paint fill or the dots on the back, the blueing will not effect them.

which is what the guy did in that second video, nothing. He dipped the whole thing.

Did it - came out pretty damn good for a first try. I cleaned up the head with some scotch brite pads, then i cleaned vigorously, then used denatured alcohol to remove any leftover oil, dirt or dust. Taped and exacto'd around the insert and taped the shaft...then just followed the directions. I used Super Blue - and somehow it came out a darker navy with bright spots of light blue that honestly kinda look cool...keep in mind it has oil on it -

It looks great, Great job!!I love when those happy accidents happen! One time when I use the same product(super blue) it came out rainbow like oil can. It may lighten when the oil drys. Did you wipe it down with a rag to make sure the metal truly has taken it?

yes sir. Dried completely then coated with a silicone cloth. Ill wash it, dry it and redo paintfill tomorrow.
