Chrome Soft and Soft in general

So, I used to play pro v1's all the time, and always said, I'm gonna use the best ball...... and for some reason looked down on soft balls.... as I see a lot of posts on the WRX site do as well. At one point i went to the NXT tour, which I used for two years, just felt better to me than prov....

 

Last weekend I played for the first time this year, and decided to try the Callaway Chrome soft. Why do a lot of players here hate on this ball? I played probably the best round of my life, as far as consistency, the greens weren't groomed yet and were actually like fairway grass, and if it wasn't for that I may have broken 80. I shot an 86. My swing speeds range from 76-107, depending on the club and perfect swings etc..

 

I only missed 2 fairways on a driver hole and I was hitting greens in regulation like i never have ( I was maybe getting 2 or three holes in reg previously). The ball flight was amazing, laser straight or soft draw, with a soft landing... felt like I had total control, unlike how it feels for me with a prov, yet everyone else seems to say the opposite...??

 

now I know I have been practicing all winter, even in the cold, and got some new apex pro irons (used to play nike vrpro blades), but man if it's not that, the callallway chrome was incredible for me... maybe it was the switch from the nike blades to a more forgiving players iron? But I'm still using my Nike covert 2.0 driver and 3 wood, and never drove it straighter or further, felt amazing.

 

but my main question is why all the hating on the chrome?? or soft in general, as I see a lot of comments like "no more soft balls" etc...

I didn't like the original Chrome Soft.

I like this years quite a bit.

I enjoy playing some of the low compression golf balls since I get more distance and like them around the green. However, they are not for everyone and on a forum like this people get to express their opinion and there are some negative comments on soft golf balls but many positive threads.

There are also some pretty big fans of this ball on this board. I have mocked the Chromesoft but only the Truvis version. Which I think is ugly and a pointless gimmick (my opinion only).

 

As far as the ball itself it is competitive with anything else on the market. I'm really looking forward to trying out the X version this season.

I love the soft feel, but this ball does not perform well for me. It balloons off the driver, is too hot off of putts and chips, and won't bite all that well (for me). I wanted to like it, and I still have 32 sleeves of the damn things due to a variety of purchases where I got a really good deal, etc. I do like the Truvis in the winter (and the soft feel). But I've generally found in life that when something tries to straddle the best of all worlds, it usually ends up being mediocre at everything. And that describes the Chrome Soft to me...mediocre at everything. If I want soft feel in the winter, Duo urethane is my ball. Performance ball in the summer...z-star or PV1, etc. But it was apparently a big success because Callaway put all of its eggs in that basket.
