Damn thieves at driving ranges!

Recommended Posts

Not a me, me, me culture??? Japan must only send their rudest people on vacation to other countries; worldwide they are the must rude culture I have observed. Cutting in waiting lines, etc., etc. I'm glad to hear that everyone that stays home in Japan is different!

Sorry but we in the US are the rudest culture many americans dont make an attempt to learn the language of the country they are visiting. Sad to say its US!

Ain't that the truth...I have been embarrassed many times before for my fellow Americans when witnessing some of their behavior when visiting foreign countries. My wife and I typically try to blend in with the locals as much as possible when out of the country and be understanding of the various cultures and languages.

Put a Tile GPS finder inside your bag.

I think they are 29$ at lowes home improvement. Or order online . Sew that sucker to the inside of the bag.

I have a Tile on my keys for when I can't find my phone. The only problem using in your bag would be it relies on your phone's GPS through a Bluetooth connection. You could make it rink if close enough, but the app will only show its last location when it was within Bluetooth range of your phone. Essentially, if a thief bolted, you would see where you left it and possibly the direction it went, but that is it.

You're probably thinking of Chinese tourists. So many Westerners lump all East Asians together, but the cultures are quite different in many ways.

My wife is Japanese. I've traveled to both Japan and China extensively. The Japanese, whether on their home turf or traveling abroad, are polite to a fault in general. The Chinese, not so much.

And what was said earlier about low crime rates in Japan is absolutely true. If you leave your wallet or purse behind on a subway car with cash in it, you'll very likely get it back with no cash missing, even in Tokyo.

The Japanese are some of the most kind, gentle, and cultured people you could ever meet. In Philly I dealt with a bunch of Chinese tourist who were going to visit the Liberty Bell and they basically all just wondered on up to the front of the line. When called out on it their guide, who acted as their translator, made some lame excuse about their having to be somewhere else soon.

I have also noted that South Koreans also seem to act very entitled. A gent was playing in front of my group and was clearly practicing (like about a dozen balls in various areas of this par 3 green). We figured that once he finished putting each and every one of them out he would probably let us play through on the next hole.

Nope. He hit all of them from the tee (was just finishing up when we pulled up) and when we asked if we could play through he, at first, ignored us, and then said something like "Yes, as long as you don't hold me up."

One of the guys in my group knew him (a member) and said he was from Korea.

But, in defense of anyone from anywhere else, some of the most rude people I have encountered on the course are from right here in the good ol US of A. Especially if they are members at a semi-private. Talk about a sense of entitlement. Wow.....

You obviously have never been to japan and experienced their culture. What you likely encountered were Chinese, news flash, not all asian cultures are the same! This comment makes you sound pretty ignorant and uncultured.

Medic good call I've encountered this too. Im curious how the WW2 japanese were different than japanese nowadays . I mean maybe it was a different class of people starting the war than who rule nowadays.

Also just as a side note that Americans don't learn the language. Every immigrant culture that has ever immigrated to the US has learned English. You know the official language of the U.S., except the mexican immigrants. For some reason as a whole they do not want to speak English or embrace english.

I read that somewhere. Just found it interesting . No offense to anyone, that was an actual real news story. And I don't know why they didn't want to learn English. Maybe it stems all the way back to the mexican war in the 1800's. And im sure there are exceptions or that the news story could be wrong . But still interesting!

Rather than debating the relative rudeness of various Asian cultures and whether the U.S. has an official language (it does not), does anyone have a recommendation besides Tile for GPS locators?

Burner phone with GPS enabled? Can the police actually track those anything like know tv? LOL. Granted, you'd have to keep it charged...

This dude lost his phone at the Wells Fargo tourney and it had the Lost Phone App from Apple.

Man that app didn't work! We were 300 ft away from the phone standing on the blue dot it showed on the app when a lady called and said

"Did you lose a phone?"

I had been texting the phone and calling it.

The blue dot is where the device you're holding is, not the device you're looking for. By definition, you're always standing on the blue dot.

The cost problem is, you'd have to have a device with active GPS, locator app, and data connection. Kind of a high priced insurance plan, that doesn't even ensure recovery. Maybe a pre-paid smartphone or something? Dunno how long those data plans are good for, before you have to pay more to keep it active...

Eventually, you'd get to a point where its more cost effective to just submit an insurance claim on your homeowners insurance (if you have it) for the whole bag. Take picutres of your usual bag contents (clubs, balls, rangefinder, bag, etc) to make the claim easier to submit. You might be surprised at the assessed value of replacing everything. With luck, you could then buy second hand and get your bag pretty close to where it was.

Wow, I seem to have started a slight firestorm with my Japan comment. Sorry to all who were offended, and those who were aghast at my uneducated views. Admittedly, my views are colored by my father's treatment by the Japanese in WWII (an entire generation of Americans has a slightly different view of the Japanese than the new enlightened masses). I have accepted my 40 lashes, and will no longer assume that the rude group that just tried to cut in front of me is Japanese, but I can't assume they are Chinese or Korean, either, as many of you have (since that would be just as bad as assuming that they are Japanese). Glad to hear that they don't treat Gaijin like they used to!

I'm sorry your father was poorly treated by the Japanese during WWII. No trying to be insensitive, but that's the sad reality of war. Just think of how the Japanese felt when 200,000 civilians died when Nagasaki and Hiroshima were bombed. Yes, Japan did attack Pearl Harbor, but that was a military target. If you visit Hiroshima, they still have not completely healed. Conversely, I did visit Nuremberg, Germany (center of the Nazi party, it was leveled in WWII) a couple months ago and it was very vibrant and full of life and culture.

Sadly this is true. To much of the rest of the world, we are considered rude Americans. If you want to be treated nicely, just tell them you are Canadian :-). I've done that before. LOL
