What Would You Do?

Okay, so two of my friends and I decide to play a quick 18 yesterday after work at tee off at the dirt track muni across the street from our job. I pull my tee shot left of a few trees and into a barren area in between the first and tenth fairways. I check my yardage on my cell phone and proceed to hit a low shot from under the trees that rolls off the back of the green. I finish out the hole and walk to my cart which is parked 20 feet behind the green on the next tee. I go to check the yardage and cant find my phone anywhere. I usually put it in the cubby hole in the cart but it's not there. I hit my tee shot and then announce to my playing partners that I'm going to look for my phone which should be near where I hit my second. I searched for 10-15 minutes and find nothing. There was only one person in any close proximity to where I hit my second and he was coming up the tenth while we were teeing off the second. I ask him if he has seen my phone and the first three times he says he cant hear what I'm saying from the cart. I get out and ask him face to face and he seems a bit puzzled as to what a cell phone is. I give up my search and play the second. The front nine was pretty open so my friends and I go back to the first and walk the area from where I hit my second to the back of the green and find nothing. we ended up searching for a good 30 minutes and find nothing. I checked the first hole again when we played the tenth and when we finished our round along with the proshop yesterday and today and came up empty handed. I'm thinking the old guy pocketed my phone since he was the only one around and was acting a bit strange when I asked him. Obviously without any type of proof there wasn't anything I could really do. Not sure why someone would want a beat up 2 year old android phone that's probably worth 40 bucks? The area where I lost it can best be described as hardpan so it's not like I lost it in 4 inch rough. What do you guys think? I gave the old guy the benefit of the doubt because he looked like your typical retiree that plays everyday and adheres to the gentlemen's code that this game was founded upon. Looks can be deceiving however.

Why not have one of your buddies call your phone while you were with the old guy? Even in vibrate you could hear it go off. If he had it after denying - break his hip.

Definitely should have had your buddy called it while you were talking to the old guy. Does android have something similar to find my iPhone?

I've checked the phone, thrown it back into the cubby and then taken off in the cart and had the phone slide out of the cubby and the cart.

I've always found it, but now I'm kinda paranoid about it, to the point thy I carry a cheap bright colored phone case in my bag that I swap out when I play.

The phone is easily identifiable in the cart cubby, or if it happens to fall out.

That said, you could have logged into iCloud right there from one of your friends phones and pinged it.

If you have android and they don't have something similar like that, it's good reason to get an iPhone.

 

I don't put anything past anyone, but it seems pretty brazen for some dude to go into your cart, looking for your phone and take it while you're a few feet away.

Especially when phones now days are so easily tracked, and depending on the state it could be considered grand theft.
