Hybrid Length Recommendations

What length is everyone playing their 3 hybrids at? I just put in an order for an F7 hybrid with an Aldila ATX tour blue shaft and I am considering calling tomorrow and modifying the order to have them take .5" off the shaft. Standard length is 40.5" and that seems a little long to me. Honestly I'd like to say to take a whole inch off but I'm afraid that would be too much and would really flatten the lie angle out on it and mess with the swing weight.

Toad, I tend to agree but I don't know how realistic that is for them to build the club at those lengths. The most they offer is -1" and my concern is what that will do to swing weight and lie angle.

Best hybrid I ever played was a Ping i15 17* with Kbs tour steel hybrid shaft at 39.75". 1.25" under for that model.

 

As long as you address swingweight, bit shorter helps tremendously with contact.

Ive played around with lengths a couple different ways. Ive played them at the length of the iron they replaced. Ive played them for instance a 22* hybrid that replaces a 20* and 24* in between lengths of said irons. Ive played them stock too. Always at preferred swing weight. The results........ I hate hybrids. I think you can either hit them well or you cant. For me its an in between swing that I just cant pull off. When hit well they are great but I can hit my long irons more consistently so I end up getting rid of them. I will say my best results were stock but as with anything else YMMV.

I hear ya.. maybe you could talk to someone there and see how close they could get to what you want and how they address the swingweight issue.

Let us know how it goes. I've thought about that same thing, if I were to order. I've just been cutting $hit down and using lead tape.

I play my G25 at -1" which is 39.25". I never worried about lie angle, mostly because I play a flatter lie anyway. Never worried about swing weight because I have never been overly sensitive to that (I play my driver at 44" without adjusting swing weight).

 

The result, better ball striking and more confidence allows me to really get after it.

Play my 21* at 39.5'' so 40'' or 40.25'' is probably good for a 3h.

I called Cobra and looks like it already hit the production floor so I can't make any changes now but we did discuss some of the options. Basically he said is I can try it out at standard length and if I decide to take .5" off and want to maintain swing weight around D2 I could order a 16gram weight for the head. So I guess I will see how it feels at 40.5" which seems a bit long and then go from there. I purposely used a free grip instead of my usual MCC Plus4 so I wont be annoyed if I decide to have the shaft shortened haha. Ideally I'd probably want to take an inch off but I'm not sure 2 degrees flat would work well for me but I will try it as is and then consider taking .5" off.

if you are going to make the head heavier the shaft will play softer than normal due to it having to support a heavier head, you may want to tip trim to stiffen it up a little to play true to flex. how much to tip trim.... not sure
