Closing, July 31st. Wow, that is a HUGE disappointment. It is one of, if not, my favorite courses in East Texas.

 

Do yourself a favor and get out there before it closes.

WOW. This course is a diamond in the rough. It is definitely one of the best and most unique courses in East Texas. I'll be making a few trips over there this summer. This news is definitely a bummer. Do you know specifics as to why they are closing? The usual reasons I am assuming...

Their reasoning doesn't make sense. I make sure to play that course a few times a year. Grew up in emory and now live about 1 hour away. Every time I've been, the course has plenty of people on it and the conditions are top notch. It's def going to be missed. One of my favorite courses to ever play

With the course being as nice as it is, I am wondering if they are open to selling to an outside party. To let that course go and just grow up would be a shame.

They are saying that they are focusing on the tree farm and ranching. I don't doubt that the tree farm is more profitable. It's just bizarre though because they just built a large building out there next to the clubhouse not that long ago, and then they had that professional photography done last year and then the GPS systems. No telling how much that cost.

 

What a damn shame though. We are so low on good quality courses in North/Northeast Texas. Garden Valley has gone downhill the past several years. Lands End is too expensive now for what it is. That pretty much leaves Pine Dunes, and that's it.

I played Twin lakes about 3 years ago on a trip out to pine dunes. I really liked this course. It's a little depressing to hear that they are closing their doors

Take the for what it's worth. My good friend plays there with a guy that knows the owner. Yes I know......

 

Anyways rumors have been that the owner has been trying to skate around the IRS for the last few years. Again, I do not know if that is true, but that was the first thing I was told to me when I told my good friend about the course closing

I agree with this, and I am also a little over an hour away. Links at Lands End is nice, but for what it costs I would rather drive the same distance to Pine Dunes.

Well that theory is certainly interesting. It still doesn't pass the smell test. As I mentioned, if they were considering closing for years (as they claim) they wouldn't dump that amount of money into new GPS systems with hole flyovers and professional photography. It's obviously a super successful golf course. They could've even raised the green fees a little (not Land's End type though) and I think the golfers would've been okay with that.

 

Totally agree about Land's end. It's ridiculous to pay $85 to play there. It's insulting.

 

I remember playing there on a Saturday morning for $40 a round, just like 2 years ago. I've heard that it was in trouble financially, and some local homeowners bought it and then jacked up the public play rates so much to cut down on the amount of public play. They certainly accomplished that.

Very nice track. Greens are pretty severe for the average bear

 

Would be hard for someone to come in and "run" it being as it sits in the middle of the tree farm

 

The routing was suspect because of some of the Treks from greens to next tee.

Played a round here because of you guys. Man, what a gem. For $60 what a beautiful and fun course. Those greens though...what a killer. I couldn't get them dialed in at all. Very disappointed they're closing up shop. What's gonna happen to course??

This course does very well and is in a lot of peoples minds, one of the top courses in NE Texas and even the Dallas area. investors have come in and offered to buy the course and all of them have been turned away. The course wasn't hurting for money from what I understand. idk..

HAHA. yea, I know that hole. That hole can be tough, but I guess I have never thought of those greens being harder than other courses. I'm going to pay attention more this weekend for sure. :)

Last time I played there the pin on 9 couldn't be reached as it was front left. You'd putt up to it and the ball rolled back down to your feet

 

Same with 10 front right and couldn't get near the hole then there's 11

We are playing tomorrow for the last time. I last played there in January and a buddy and I both almost holed out on 11. It was cold and windy, about 45 degrees and wind straight off the left at about 10-15mph. I've taken some big numbers on that hole, and we both stuck it to about a foot. Definitely one of those memories I'll have forever.
