I'm a relatively low-ball hitter that hits low-mid shots off the deck with a fairway wood. I've tried the Titleist 917 f2 (head was too big for my liking) and the TM M2 Tour HL 16.5 (face was too deep) before settling on the Callaway Epic 3 wood. It has a smallish profile and shallow face which gives me confidence over the ball. I shafted it with the GD AD-DI shaft (maybe too costly for some) that works great. It has a smooth kick that helps get the ball in the air. I got the Matrix White Tie as the stock shaft and it's pretty high launch but dispersion is a little less than what I hoped for.

I have an old Callaway steelhead Strong 4 wood that i wouldn't trade for anything.

TM RBZ 3HL was worked great for me with the 17 degree loft. Used to carry a 15 3w and 18 5w, now I go from the 17 3HL to a 21 degree hybrid. Works great.

Mizuno jpx 850. 3 wood can be adjusted anyway from 13-17*. I find it very easy from the deck.

Sunday I was too far away to hit a par 5 in 2, but I figured I'd take my 3 wood anyway. I was 265 to the front of the green, which my 3 wood is typically 240-250. I hit the ball, made the best contact of the day, and thought I laid up pretty well.

 

I get up only to discover my ball was pin-high, and about 15 yards to the left of the green (slight dogleg right at the neck, aimed left because I thought I'd be laying up in front of the turn). When I got home and checked my Game Golf app, it showed up as a 285 yard 3-wood off the deck. I'm in love.

2013 Adams Tight 14.5° Tour

 

By far the most playable 3w I have ever gamed. It is just about impossible to mishit, and feels more like a traditional 3w off the tee compared to the Thrivers coming out today.

My buddies can mock my "old man" club all they want. I'll take my carry/stopping ability over their "I almost hit it as far as I hit my driver off the tee".

Take a look at the new Steelhead XR - deep face but easy off the deck, great off the tee. Rounded sole means it's good out of trouble.
