Best 3/4 Wood off the deck...

I feel like this topic is posted in this forum about once a week.

OP, forum search will turn up tons of results - http://www.golfwrx.c...earch_in=forums

And... what is "best" as that's all we have from the question. Longest? Easiest to elevate? Straightest?

All of those things?!

I try to find a 3/4 wd that elevates with ease - it's a combo of head and shaft that fits what you want.

I need a liteweight high launching shaft with some spin. I use a XR16 4 wd. The Epic and Fusion also launch easily, and I've enjoyed demoing a Tour Edge Exotics, but for elevation with ideal spin, you need to value time with a fitting.

Been having trouble finding one...

I've tried, in order of preference:

PING Anser 14.5*

PING G25 15*

Mizuno F-60 15*

Titleist 909F3 13*

Cobra Fly-Z+ 13.5*

PING Rapture V2 16*

Cobra Amp Cell-S 16*

Anyone have any other suggestions?

After trying all those, it may be the Indian, not the arrow.

Yer not wrong... there is a bit of that...

As my swing has improved with practice and some lessons, I've noticed hitting it off the deck is getting to be a more disparate scenario than simply off the tee. there are certainly other factors involved lie the lie and some conditions sometimes...

In all honesty, the Anser is 'working for me' and the G25 was good too, but I've been curious if there's a consensus among the WRXers as to some hidden gem I don't know about thats about as simple as point and shoot...

You could look at the PING G20 as well. If I was you I would look at the Anser 4W or the G 15/20/25 4W. The few more degrees of loft make all the difference off the deck.

All of those will work great with the proper shaft. The problem is the stock shaft is rarely the proper shaft for you.

I have a Callaway XR 4 wood currently in the bag and it's really nice off the deck. ...

Look for the Callaway Alpha 815 and 816 (14*, 16* and 18* / adjustables). Can move heavy head weight to front for lower flight, or heavy to back for higher launch. Good prices by now, several with robust shafts.

Would this be recommended for somebody who struggles to hit 3 woods off the deck though? Looks very advanced. Callaway's website kind of made it seem like it was catered towards low handicapped players?

Anser 4W I've been looking to pair with a Callaway mini set to 11*

might work probably won't. need some more lessons, to be truthful...

Last August I purchased a Callaway XR 16 with a Fujikura Speeder shaft. I had a bunch of pro shop credits and purchased the club on a whim. This is the most consistently performing 3-wood I have ever owned. I get consistent shot shapes and distance. Less than perfect strikes still fly high and and straight. Best 3-wood I've ever owned!

Skip the 815, the 816 is money.

Yes, it was supposedly for the better player, but the Alpha 816 16° was the most forgiving and highest MOI of any fairway wood Callaway offered at the time of it's introduction.

Best fairway wood from the turf; Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 18°. Longer, straighter and easier to hit then my G25 3 and V Series 3 fairway woods (both were very easy to launch from the fairway). Along with the top notch stock Aldila Rogue Silver, the current pricing is a bargain.

Does this club fit well with your gapping? Got a 15 deg m2 but if I'm hitting it nearly as long as my driver might make more sense to get this then 19 deg hybrid?

Picked up a new one for $125 wish me luck! 16 deg fills the gap between driver and 18deg 3h...

Really solid club it's the JPX900 3 wood adjusted up or down with the Fuji Speeder 2 shafts in a lot of weight and flex profile options. With that said the one annoying thing with this stick is off the rough the weight channel on the sole catches some earth...that's the only gripe with it. Other than that decent length and pretty forgiving and straight which is why I play...

Bring true WRX'r...now eyeballing the new Cally Steelhead XR 4+ with Mitsu Tensei 65 shaft! Brings back memories of my old original steelhead back in the 90's. Pics look amazing and the crown just looks gorgeous carbon fade to blue!

A whole lot of times a player (especially a right handed player) will set up slightly open (to see the target better) with their irons and square the face by dropping their right shoulder through impact. With irons, this isn't that big a deal as long as you hit ball first. You lose clubhead speed but you basically push it straight. A lot of people play like this.

With the 3 wood, they move the ball forward but they still line up slightly open and drop the shoulder which means they hit the ball pretty hard with club de-lofted, leaving the impression they can't get it off the ground.

Try setting up with the ball middle of stance and swing thought of right shoulder stays exactly the same height the entire swing. You'll start our hooking but eventually start piping them.

Nine times out of ten when a player can hit it off the tee but not the deck ball position is too far forward and the right shoulder is dropping through impact (which doesn't matter off the tee bc you can hit on upswing).

Just a thought!

If that doesn't work, i used to play one of the old Adams small head "tight lies" woods (not the new ones). They are tough to find but if you google "super Concorde" their the same and cheap. You swing it like an iron (it has a v sole) but it's a FW.

EDIT:

Not to sound like Im condescending with these tips, but what really helped me was to look at the target as if I was pouring sand out of my right ear. sometimes people (i used to before my teacher drilled it out of me) will look at the target while in their stance by opening up their left shoulder instead of just turning their head on their neck. The thought of pouring sand out of my right ear to look at target pre-shot and right shoulder high during swing helped me hit long irons and FWs well.
