I'll turn 65 on fathers day and I actually score better now than I did 20 years ago. I know I can't hit it that far but good chipping and putting more than makes up for the lack of a long game.

Have you lost distance, or did you just never have it?

I've never been a long hitter. In my 40's I hit driver about 240 and a PW about 110. Now I'm 200-220 and my PW carry is 90. I really don't try to see how far I can hit anything because I don't want to go to the chiropractor every week. :)

Hey Sprinkle, please come back and post that you were just kidding, because you were weren't you?

Older folks generally have sacrificed physicality for wisdom.

Which is not particularly wise. It is my assertion that anyone, who has never worked on flexibility, can become more flexible if they do work on it. To assume someone is inflexible due to age, when they've never actually done anything about it, is wrong. I agree, when one ages, what's possible becomes lessened, but the people I'm talking about aren't at their outer limits. They're not even close.

I liked it better when it seemed you were railing on old dudes just for fun. Turns out you're an old dude recommending flexibility. How boring, now get off my lawn and no, you can't hit my driver either.

Strength = Longevity

So if you keep up on some sort of fitness routine with weight training you will hold on to your bone mass longer and hold your posture and flexibility WAY longer as well as lower your blood pressure and anxiety level.

So what petunia is saying is instead of hacking your way around the course, get your a## to the gym for six months then come out firing and beat those wipper snappers butts.

Guys if you know petunia, he probably had one bottle of wine too many and is just having some fun. Although at 57, I have a longer more fluid swing than most guys half my age, and when I try to shorten it up I usually go awry.

You're 57 Thug?

Mind blown.

Does that mean that I act so immature here on WRX that you can't believe I'm not a millenial, or I act so stuffy that you can't believe I'm not in my 70s? Either way I just kind of insulted bunches of WRXers ;-)

Well, my experience with weight training was that I did lose some flexibility and I had chronic issues with blood pressure. When I ditched the weights for Yoga, my flexibility came back (and then some) and my blood pressure medication actually started working. I've only deadlifted twice in the past year and could still pull 315, so I haven't lost much strength. I don't miss it, though. Love Yoga, love the way I feel.

But, I think we agree that there are many ways one can compensate for declining physicality as we age, whether it's getting stronger, faster, more flexible, more graceful, or whatever is needed.

I had a donkey named Petunia. She was a real sweetie. True story

I used to date that donkey. She was a real azz.

See that joke right there proves something. You get old you don't give a crappe. You can just tell any dumb damn joke you please. Ha! Free at last!

I am at the bad age. I'm old enough to be the dirty old man, but not old enough to be the cute, harmless, dirty old man.

You'll get there, my son. You'll get there. You think you're quite the charmer and the young woman just laughs and asks if those are your real teeth. Good god woman I'm flirting with you. Don't you recognize Dean Martin jokes when you hear them?!

That young thing doesn't even know who Dean Martin is !

Stop, you're making me blush. Actually, TTB came from my step-son, who wanted to name his dwarf Netherlands rabbit Thug when he was young. But we figured it wouldn't look right on his cage when he entered him in 4H shows, so he settled for Hercules, and I stole the TTB epithet.

Oh wow now there's a blast from the past!!

An "old dude" moment. Larryrsf and Pickle were quite a pair. There was another who trolled Larry but I can't remember his name.

Beautiful Shot was also part of the mix. Larrysrf got to a lot of people - he was like a serial aggravator. Pickle! I bet he's here wandering around.

First off, old age will do that to you. Second of all, the current crop of old dudes, (my dad's age) are from the generation where every one of these guys have worked their rear end's off from the time they were 12 or 13 years old. And by working, I mean manual labor at young ages and often continuing on throughout their careers. Having a college degree was not necessary to putting food on the table. Most of the guys worked in repetitive or heavy industrial manufacturing, the construction trades, farming, or other various non-desk jobs. All the types of jobs many in the political arena are clamoring for a return. There were no web or computer jobs or other various "thinking" jobs that there are now. There was no 6 week daddy paternity leave, no living in mommy and daddy's basement until your early 30s and no grabbing 20 bucks out of mom's purse to take the girl friend out on a date. Most guys from that generation grew up getting 2 or 3 meals a day and a couple outfits for school. That was it. You wanted a new ball glove you bought it yourself or you made due. Most went to school, played sports, and had some type of job. Nobody sat home during the summer and watch TV.

Beyond working 50 plus hours a week most of these guys did everything themselves. Fixed the lawn mower, fixed the car, repaired the house, etc. The didn't have one ounce of time to stretch, bike, go for a morning run, let alone have a gym membership. Gym's didn't even exist.

You live this kind of life, your body is destroyed by the time you are 60/65.

Almost everything you said applies to my father, who is closing in on 70, expect the last sentence. Played college football for a year, worked mostly outdoor construction/heavy labor jobs for the next 40, and still goes to the gym at least once, often twice a day. And trust me, there was always time for a 3, 5 or,13 mile run before work/school if you get up early enough and that gyms did exist back then.

Ironically, he revels in playing the 'senior' tees. I think it's because once you've been capable of driving a par 4, moving up a tee box to do it again is worth it.

Interacting with people from different age demographics is a talent. Most people just want to be listened to, which is a pretty easy task. Everyone has an agenda and the sooner you recognize it, the easier understanding them becomes.

Absolutely. I don't like talking about myself, so I simply start asking about them...and that takes care of that. :-)
